What a smart young lady Fiza is! She nailed it when she said it would be great with curry......you need to tell her that we do eat it with our "curry" type of foods here in the USA. We don't treat it as a dessert but as a compliment to savory dishes!
It’s best warm, with soft butter to spread.
So good with butter and honey. Yum.
As a US Southerner, born and raised, the BEST dish to pair cornbread with is collard, mustard, or turnip greens. We usually mix the three. The mustard greens cut the bitterness of the collard greens, and the turnip greens give it a little bite (heat). Some vinegar and I will sit in a corner and not bother anyone for an hour.
Me too!
Ftza has such a sparkling personality! She is going to be a force when she's an adult! And, I am happy they like corn bread. I love it for breakfast and for dinner. So good with beef chili or with bean soup.
❤️🙏
Corn bread is really like a naan - best served with a stew or chili as a side bread. Glad they liked it. We used to get this at school lunches when I was a kid.
Best slathered in butter, and hot!
Jalapeño cornbread here in Texas. Butter and honey is a must. You can also put cheddar cheese on top.
you got to put some butter on that corn bread!!!!
IKR !😮😊
CORN BREAD WITH PINTO BEANS AND SOME ONIONS AND CHOW CHOW ON THE SIDE OH MY GOODNESS!! I LOVE CORNBREAD WITH LOTS OF BUTTER AS WELL : )
You can also put some hot spicy peppers in the mix. That's how I like my cornbread with Thai peppers
i eat cornbread several ways..with milk or honey and butter or with beef stew which is kind of like beef curry but with veggies too.
Slather it in butter and it will be much better
Corn bread is eaten all over the United States, not just the southern part.
Tell Fayez that my 95 year old grandmother loves "milk & bread" which is where you take day old corn bread & crumble it into a glass of milk and eat it with a spoon to dig out the corn bread from the milk. They had this often when she was growing up for breakfast, if last night's meal had cornbread, the kids got the leftovers w/ milk.
Also I just had cornbread with my oven fried chicken, green beans and scalloped potatoes.
Sound great❤️🙏
In the American north, they serve sweet corn bread and non-sweet iced tea. In the American south, they serve non-sweet corn bread and sweet ice tea. LOL
I eat cornbread several ways. First, by slicing it in half, and dipping black eyed peas and their juice onto it. Also, I like it with butter and honey, eaten warm. Finally, I like it warm with butter and sorgum molasses on it, the same as honey but a much stronger flavor! You can crumble it up and add on top of beef chili, or even potato soup!
We would crumble up the cornbread in a glass with milk as a late night snack.
It is often served alongside chili but definitely the best is spicy cornbread with jalapeno and cheese baked in. At some restaurants an entire pan can be ordered as an appetizer for the table.
There was a restaurant in Austin back in the day that made the absolute best cheesy cornbread I've ever found. It was light and fluffy with crumbled bacon and cheese, and came in either regular or jalapeno. I could eat that as a meal all on its own. Unfortunately, I found out recently that the owner retired and the new owners ran it into the ground.
2:52 Like Fiza is saying here, there is a salty version which is not sweet. It is usually white in color instead of yellow cornbread. They should try the white cornbread next.
Thankyou, noted 🌹🥰
sweet cornbread is the more unfamiliar cornbread with salt in more southern and in my opinion more widely used. Cornbread, beans, onions
To me, corn bread sweetened with sugar is a midwestern thing. Real Southern cornbread is not sweetened. Also very commonly cooked in a skillet as pan cake like, "corn pone."
Also good fresh / warm with some honey on top. :)
Also makes a good side-dish to go with chili, as others have said.
Or there's a recipe called "tamale pie" which is basically a baked dish with chili on the bottom and cornbread batter poured on top and baked in the oven until the corn bread is done baking. It's pretty tasty. :)
If she wants sweet *and* spicy some people make jalapeno corn bread
Southern food, klezmer music? Better than the other way around!
I grew up eating a lot of cornbread, but not the sweet version of cornbread. My southern family didn't bake the sweet kind, although I have learned that some do. I don't enjoy it sweet because it pairs well with many more foods when savory. Sweet cornbread and greens would be a big no for me. Also sweet cornbread and beans, no. Sweet cornbread and chili, also a no. Sweet corbread for stuffing or dressing , a disaster.
