Great review! I myself personally totally loved every minute of it! But I can totally understand that the humour isn’t gonna be for everyone, and the plot, whilst respecting Mario and most of his games to perfection, is definitely pretty thin, and I can understand people who aren’t the biggest fans of Mario, and came for the story to be a little upset by the outcome. But whether you loved or hated the film, nobody can deny that the creators really cared! All the Easter eggs, music, visual decisions and everything is enough to make Mario/Nintendo fans of all ages absolutely ecstatic!
What I've learnt of the decades is that Illumination absolutely fuckin knows how to make a kids movie. They really really fucking know how to make a kids movie. This movie will make bank like all of their other movies and it will be an iconic staple for a whole new generation of kids. Unfortunately, they don't do what Pixar or Dreamworks does and also make those movies as enjoyable for adults. But then again, maybe they don't want to....
You say it as it is a fact when that’s not even close to everyone’s opinion. I saw this movie and I loved it as a 17 year old. I think it is as enjoyable as an adult as a chile
@@Juicyfear1eah no shit its not everyone’s opinion lol it’s a generalization. Glad you enjoyed the movie mate, though if we’re talking semantics legally 17 is not an adult (at least in North America). Sorry! I’m excited to see the film. @@6ixpoint5ive well I mean I didn’t actually say I was an adult I just said I was 17 and talking generally about adults and you will enjoy this movie if you like Mario even a bit. The pros outweigh the cons
Speak for you, mate. I'm 43, and I enjoyed the HECK out of this movie. I'm a child of the 80's, and has played Mario Games since the very first Donkey Kong on Game Watch. This movie was made for people like me. Screw the kids, they won't get it ! Now, I can understand why it won't be as successful for Gen Y and Gen Z, since you guys didn't grow up with the franchise from it's start, but Gen X like me will EAT this movie up like Mario triple mushrooming on a kart.
Great review but, I disagree with your opinion. I could be biased as a guy who's first gaming memories were with Mario. I also did a review for this film.
I mean, Mario was also one of my first video games and kept playing it through the years but I agree with him... That movie felt kinda like a fast paced soulless cashgrab... Even for a kids movie that was pretty mid. I mean even though I don't like Disney movies as much as as before, at least I can still appreciate the depth that those movies are trying to go into, the multiple facets of their characters, their shortcomings as humans and the hardships and dilemmas they have to face. The Mario movie isn't even remotely trying to make any sense of it's world. The whole "lesson" from the movie can be summed up as "if you're really bad at your job in your world, you might have better luck in a fantasy one if you believe enough in yourself". They don't give time to get to know any characters. Every individual Mario meets feels just like an NPC which is just a tool to advance the plot. First Mario asks for help, is then given some fancy and fun challenge, and the story progresses to the next NPC. The only "hardship" Mario has to face most of the time is just being lucky enough to jump on or be thrown at some cheat power up :v The animation was great but that doesn't justify a movie if it doesn't have any plot. You could use a lot of the criticism of the Emoji Movie towards the Mario movie but the fact that people aren't giving it as much rigor is the proof that people would hate or like a movie for what it's seems to be like rather than the actual writing and sorry of the movie :v
