As we reflect on and honor the bravery of those who stormed Normandy’s beaches on D-Day 80 years ago, we also remember the unity and resolve that characterized our partnership. It was more than military might that secured victory; it was our steadfast belief in the principles of freedom, democracy, and global security. Today, the world continues to face threats that challenge our peace and security. From the global war on terrorism to regional struggles against tyranny and oppression, including in Ukraine, the lessons of Normandy remain as relevant as ever. They remind us that freedom requires sacrifice. It is won through constant vigilance and the collective effort of nations united by shared values.  @NATO Allied heads of government and state will meet in Washington DC on July 9-11 to once again reaffirm our steadfast commitment to our collective defense. #WeAreNATO
