Bro one comment though..why use cheap chinese braids?
I cast reaction tackle and kastking just as far as standard power pro. Honestly power pro max cutro is the only braid I feel gives me a little more distance. The cheaper stuff deff sound rougher through the guides but I just get the same distance as the other braids.
Idk about you, but I wouldn't put cheap ass line on my 500$ reels.@thatguyfishingben4794

Exactly it was apples to apples. But I've been using the reaction tackle braid for 2 years now. I have so many reels it gets stupid expensive to spool em. Reaction tackle works extremely well for what it is. It deff sounds rougher then standard power pro but I haven't had any issues with distance or it just snapping for no reason. Maxcuatro deff casts a little farther due to the smaller size to weight ratio but the cost to spool a reel is 3 times as much. I have used the kastking stuff the past 2 years as well. It's even rougher than the Reaction tackle. But it still is getting the distance. I prefer Reaction tackle just cause it makes less sound going through eyes but both have stood up well for 2 years now. It's one of those things you just have to test your self to build confidence in them.
you answered your own question... because its CHEAP. Im not buying two $30 spools of braid just to run this test

Get one 24 met dc or get two SLX DC XT for about the same price... will be waiting for some comparisons between them!
SLX DC is not a real DC, and the review is not very good. 😂

Last SLX i seen was POS not sure about new one, kid at boat ramp had one, said got it to learn to cast bait casters ,while i was digging his birdnest out i handed him my 2019 scorpion dc. Night and day diff. His slx did not have dial for mono braid floro...i paid less for 2 used mint looking scorpions mailed from japan, got them faster then an Amazon order.

Yes and No. If you like a better finish, it’s worth to buy a metanium. However, it does not affect how you catch fish with either reel. Reading water and finding fishing spot is more important. Blind casting usually results in nothing. Save the money for the terminal tackles instead.
please compare to the regular new metanium, really love that one but want to try something new after 3 years. Have had DCs (scorpion and slx) before but nothing beats the regular new metanium in casting performance and i dont really need the "DC" but if this is almost as good at casting long distances as a dialed in regular new metanium i would pull the trigger on the new Metanium DC
Pull the trigger! A lot of testers in Japan say they like it more than 21 Antares DC. The DC brake is super tuned for mlg spool 3

I also have a 15 Metanium it has served me well for years. I had a slx dc that could actually cast further but not as consistant. I also have the curado dc and it skips better then Metanium but does not cast as far. Strange isn't it. 😅🤣 Maybe some are better then others, but all are bad ass reels.
yes it appears there is actually different firmware for each reel
with all of my baitcasters... not even DC reels... i always keep my spool tension just tight enough toi keep my spool for moving side to side... no matter the bait, if you go to a lighter bait thumb it more be a man

Lol then you're missing out on distance. Light baits - even looser spool tension side to side, higher brakes. Heavier weight, tighter spool tension lower brakes.
i got confuse how come the old metanium got less range than 5 years ago you tested it against antares dc and it had average of 181,6 ft with 1/2oz lipless crank but now against the new metanium dc it got less range ? can you explained why it is like this ? thank for your time to compare all the good reels out there
That reaction tackle braid is known for snapping. Very low quality
I got the new Metanium DC71 HG and I love it! I was not going the baitcaster route because I am a Stella man... Now I bring both!
Figured you might find this interesting. I’ve found that the line type settings are not at all accurate. I was using monofilament for topwater. On the Flourocarbon brake setting I was able to get the external brake settings all the way down to the lowest setting with a hint of side to side play on the spool tension. I got absolutely incredible casting distance and performance in those settings. Something for you to try.

Thanks. Looking at both your reviews on the new meta dc, i think i will save up on the Curado M to replace my Curado dc. I really miss my old curado K workhorse setup with big line capacity that i didn't get on my curado dc

You did see how the new Mentanium Dc destroyed the old version with braid right? I believe the new beat the old by 30ft if I recall. I guess it depends on what kind of line you like to use. I’m using the Suffix 131 braid and have had zero issues with backlashes on braid setting and on 4 brake setting. If I put it down to 3 then I’ll start getting some fluff and definitely need to thumb the spool. I hated my Curado DC reels with fluro but I’m now thinking maybe switch out with braid may be beneficial. Those Curados were backlashing all the time and very inconsistent.

It would be not worth much because I dont fish with braid
@THEREELTEST it's all good. Just figured you could show people some of the cheap brands are decent stuff. That reaction braid you use sounds a little rougher than power pro. But I'm generally getting the same distance I'm getting with power pro. It breakage hasn't been an issue either.

Currently (May 2024) you can pay $450-500usd for a new 2024 Metanium DC, or buy a used 2015 Metanium DC all day for $150-220usd. Well... So I bought three Metanium DC's from Japan off an eBay seller for what a local dealer offered to sell me a 2024 at the minimum contract price his distributor (and likely Shimano) allow ($450usd).
Paired two of them up with some 7'2 Expride's I snagged off Marketplace for $150! Felt like I really came out well.
I personally prefer the 15 metanium. Yes, it might be outdated, but it’s cheaper, it has the nice metanium name on the side that won’t rub off over time. Also, they both have the same idc-5 brakes. Sure, it might be a newer, more improved version. However I really can’t judge the new reel, because don’t have one. I’m sure it’ll out perform the 15 model. I just think shimano could’ve been a little bit more creative with the design. Instead of just copying and pasting their latest designs. I don’t know, it’s probably just me.
The Core Solid design is one of the best designs they added to the Metanium. It’s comfortable,lighter and rigid. Everything about the new reel is upgraded in terms of casting distance, brakes, and the ability to handle lighter baits. The new DC chip shares the technology from the JDM flagship reel 2023 Antares DC MD.
I own the new Metanium and the 15 Metanium is way overbraked compared to 24 Metanium. Yes the paint will eventually show more wear than the old one but I love how Shimano sticks to a minimalistic design. Not to many colors like Daiwa lol.

I’m using the Suffix 131 braid and I’ve been impressed. Can’t go lower then 3 brake setting as well.
As you can see, 3 is enough to easily cast over 50 yards with an average crankbait.
Knew it had something to do with the line because my metanium 70 casts great
You couldn’t break that braid, casting like that if your life depended on it…. and it doesn’t go down as low in the brakes with that Lure because it has lower brake settings for lighter Lure…. All those DC‘s and you still don’t really get it…. what a trip how you’re making videos though…. It’s always the case someone learns how to fish for a second and then they’re training everybody like they have a lifetime of experience

I got a baitcaster and spinning. There spinning reels that can cast just as far.
I do have a shimano curdo dc and Sustain. I don't think the distance is that much different.
people always say spinning reels cast farther but have never went out and measured
I wonder if you ended up with a defective reel? I’ve seen tons of other people raving about this reel showing how well it cast and never backlashes. Everyone I’ve seen has had a great experience with it other than you. I wonder what’s up with your reel?
I hope its not defective. But most channels dont go into the level of detail of how I set the reel up like spool tension and what not.

The reason I ask is because I have seen a few other UA-camrs show how to set them up along with a few other reviewers that just use it and they all show real time good cast with no thumb and no problems. I was just wondering about yours because it seems you don’t like it and have had issues with it working properly as well. I just got mine in today. I’ll let you know how it goes when I take it out hopefully this weekend.👍🏼
Look you believe that the DC is supposed to do everything for you and that is just not the case…. it is to allow you to release your thumb in the middle of the cast to get more consistent distance even in wind… it is not there to do everything… if you set it that way, you will just get shorter cast…. It is not 100% automatic

That reel is 🗑️ .. i was so disappointed they dropped the ball big time .. theres one guy that tightens the spool tension 😂 and still got some fluff but swears its great 😂😂
Its definitely not trash, just not as user friendly as the previous model. Shimano definitely wanted to separate this reel from the lesser SLX DC XT and Scorpion DC
@@THEREELTEST should’ve stuffed 4x8 in there i would gladly take a tad more weight for some actual improvement over the old one .. this reel is just not consistent! Had high hopes super let down

Another great video. I fish with braid and braid with a leader only. So that does make a big difference to me. I think the only way I would get a DC reel anyway would be to skip with. If there is one thing that I consistently blow a reel up on it is skipping.

I noticed that on the older one if I spooled the way you described it was stacking to one side, so when you spool line on you don’t want any play on the spool and the drag needs to be snug as well
