Thanks for putting out so much content on this reel. It’s really nice and helpful for those of us who are looking to possibly buy one without being able to put our hands on
Would have been nice to see an in between tension setting between tight and loose. Especially since you were able to to use setting one with "tight" spool tension.
My first cast with a brand new spool of sunline crank i blew to backlash hell. 😂 took me 30 minutes to pick out but i got it, after soms find tuning of the tension and brakes, i can bomb cast a 110+1 Jr! The retrieve is so buttery smooth it is ridiculous.
Very valuable information! I have just purchased this reel - Metanium DC 71 HG - (I am a spinning fan - fish a Stella 1000) and the baitcaster thing was a bit of a 'over my dead body' thing). I have fished ABU Garcia Ambassadeaurs and a Shimano Calcutta decades ago... I will try the tight settings to begin with. I have watched other reviews and apart from some very knowledgeable super good casters they all seem disappointed. I think you understand the new 2024 Metanium. I understand that some things are for specialists and not for everybody and this is a precision instrument.
I’ll give the loose tension a try on a non windy day. Even with regular spool tension, it still outcast most of my other SVS infinity reels. I would like to see a cast olympics with this reel.
I would give up a couple of feet of distance to have a more trouble free controlled cast . No one wants to try to fish and keep digging out a birds nest.
Hello, thank you for your very interesting videos (even if I don't understand everything due to my limited understanding of English!) Regarding this video, could you summarize in a few words or sentences what you recommend because I will be receiving this reel in the coming days and I would like to apply your advice? Thanks in advance !
Hey, I just picked up a Zenon X for a great price at a discount and spooled it up with 0.11mm braid. The spool is pretty deep so I put in like 125meters+ (400+ft). Before spooling in the line I weighed the spool and it was around 9,5 grams so pretty light (I didn’t buy this reel to cast extremely light lures I have other reels for that purpose). However after I spooled in the line, the spool weighed almost 20 grams so I’m just wondering if it’d make this reel further casting if I spooled in like 60-70 meters of braid and then mono for the rest? Shouldn’t mono be a little bit lighter than braid? For reference I’m looking to cast lures from 7 grams to 20 grams so nothing super light. Also would it be a good idea to change the bearings?
I tried this with a Black Max, thinking I would get farther casting with a half full spool, but I was wrong. It cast far less. That reel should handle 7 grams and up quite easily
@@THEREELTEST That’s what I also thought but it literally doesn’t. I can feel that the spool is heavy with so much line in it. It handles 9grams and up pretty well but below that it doesn’t. I might need to try and tweak all of the braking settings a little and see if that’d help.
@@THEREELTEST Either take the constructive criticism and zip your cake hole or lose a subscriber. I've watched a ton of your videos, but I don't have to...
You tighten the spool too tight in my opinion. You can tell by watching the line mid air there’s a lot of resistance from the spool. It doesn’t want to fly straight. If you loosen it by just a bit you might get a better result.
I really do not get the use of this video. First of all this infomration is nothing new. It is basic knowlege for baitacster setting shown in other videos of yours. Also, it´s nothing that applies only to Metanium DC reels. Really don´t want to hate or anything, but do I miss something?
Why the hell am I paying 499.00 to buy a DC reel to get 143 ft and it’s 4 over runs out of 5 casts ? Over rated , and over hyped . Get a Lew’s and save 150 dollars with better results and smoothness
U can find this reel wayyyy less than $500. Been graduated from Lews, they definitely don’t compare to Shimano. They sponsor alot of pros, so that’s why U always hear about em

Thats what I do, I test things out :)

Yeah as many DC reels as I have, I immediately knew Shimano did something different with the 24 Metanium when I first took it out
Caught a 6.12 largie last wk with this reel using 15lb test & won big fish. I have had to cut out a backlash b4, 10/12lb floro is best for casting
12lb flouro is what Im going to use for the long term fishing review
It looks like an amazing reel but it is extremely expensive here in South Africa. Equivelent to about 850 dollars. Stunning video as always.
The SLX DC XT is just as good for much less

I also threw 3.5g on my CU Double with this reel and it performed well on the braid setting.
the next casting olympics will be all my DC reels lol. But that wont be till next year
I would give up a couple of feet of distance to have a more trouble free controlled cast . No one wants to try to fish and keep digging out a birds nest.
a DC reel may be too much for you then

Interesting!
Thanx for video.
What line do you have on?
For the bang for the buck, would you take this met dc over the slx xt dc or ?
Can you please do a video like this on the 23 Calcutta MD???
I dont have that reel but the same principle should apply
Nice experiment. I presume this work for scorpion dc as well ? I think mine are 2019 i think
Yes, watch my Scorpion DC on the water video. Its all done with a loose spool tension. But its brakes are much more forgiving than the Metanium DC
Do you have any videos of the curado k casting a 1/4oz weight? I cant seem to find one on your channel?
yes, search for curado DC vs Scorpion MGL
@@THEREELTEST you were casting an 1/2oz weight in that vid?
@@Khaibu1999 watch the entire video
How is it for skipping a frog or jig ?
put it in flourocarbon mode and you will be fine
Guess the same concept will work for other DC reels
Not just DC, all bait casters in general
Is the new metanuim dc better than the old one plus how much line does your metanuim dc hold
It casts farther, lighter, smoother, but holds about 50ft less line

great video and thanks for sharing
press the thumb bar, make the lure drop and adjust the spool tension until there are no loop when the lure drop down.
if you are a beginner yes
I don't watch videos that start off by telling me I don't know what I'm doing...
Yet here you are..😂
A view and a comment is all he needed, I’d bet you a dollar and a doughnut you made him a few Pennies either way
No. I didn't watch it. Hit play. Pause. Left comment. Gone
you did... at least twice

I have this reel. It sucks. It's super finicky and backlash. My regular Metanium never backlashes even with a super loose spool tension.
I’ll buy it from you if you don’t want it 😉
@@iceicebabybass5711 please do. I’m serious.
I replaced 3 of my ‘20 Metaniums with this reel, couldn’t be happier
I still don't understand why people don't use left handle baitcasting. Just treat it like a spinning reel to a point.
I dont understand why you are worried about what other people are doing

I set it exactly how the "tight" spool tension people set it, because I used to be one of them

because most people dont set their spool tension this way
They literally say, spool just tight enough to removed side to side play. Anything more is unnecessary and user error at that point .
well it does say to adjust as needed as well but yes, they designed the reel to be run with a loose spool tension
