    I'm 35yrs old, and am taking an Accuplacer test tomorrow. As you can imagine, I've not used math like this in a while. I've been struggling with linear equations that use fractions over the last few weeks, and this is easily the simplest explanation I have ever seen...thank you! You are incredible.

    I started high school in 1990. My maths teacher was really bad plus there was 30 of us in the classroom. No resources like the library or the internet in those days in rural South Africa. Needless to say, my interest in maths waned and I focused on subjects I could study and understand by myself.
    I wish you were around in our times, teaching us mathemetics my friend. You are too good.

    Q: Why is it different in subtracting?
    2x+20=1 can be
    x+20-20 = 1-20
    "x=-1/20" instead of "x=-19/2"
    and
    5+30+=6
    can be
    "x=-24/5" instead of "x=1/30"

    On 1:52, When will you need to subtract a number, like 4?

    • @axandoaldria7439
      @axandoaldria7439 4 роки тому

      That's when you want to get rid of a number to get the unknown quantity by itself, in this case you want 5÷8x by itself so you cancel out the number by the inverse. Use the inverse on both sides to balance the equation. Hence 4 cancel out and 14 gets reduced by -4.
