I'm a recent subscriber, and I have to say that Ken is a big, black and beautiful Percheron, and I really admire him. His manners seem to be impeccable
I was raised on a small dairy farm in Vermont, and it always amazed me how the cows always returned to their own slots as they entered the barn. We had around 50 "milkers". Some of the younger ones would mess up and try to go into the wrong slot as they entered. The cow that was supposed to be in that slot, would get "mad" at her and try to bite. They get "very" possessive about their position in the barn. I suppose it's like us being possessive about our "things".
I hope Jim feels better soon. It really does take a lot of energy to get the horses harnessed. I am sure Brenda will take good care of Jim and the horses. 👍👍😁
Jim you said in your last video why you work alone .Workers compensation and liability insurance rates would be very high in forestry . Some viewers have said they would come and work for free for the experience. Thanks but no thanks is my opinion. Who pays premium costs ' Chainsaw purchase and operating cost for the saw plus safety gear and how experienced is this free labour .Better to work alone less worries. That's big timber you are felling . Yes Brenda is there filming but she stand where you ask her to for safety reasons .She is now wearing her Tasco woodsman hard hat , that will not save her life with that big timber but good to have on her head That hat just looks right on that job site . Stay safe everyone .Cheers
Your ability to train horses is amazing. Years of working with horses shows. I must admit I know people who have worked with them for years and never learned the fine details that you have. You’re going to have a great team when you’re done.
Baron did really well today considering he is pretty new to this type of work, he is extremely handsome can’t wait to see the foal with it having these two beauties for parents. Your cold sounds terrible hope you get better soon, have toddy of hot water honey and whiskey. Works for me every time. Take care and God bless you both.
I like adding some fresh lemon juice and a sprinkle of cinnamon to my hot toddy also. The whiskey does really help to cut the crude down in your throat.
I always enjoy your videos Brenda and Jim and horses. I think a good calendar picture could be made from this video where the horses are looking in the window as Jim is putting Ken out.
I hope Jim can feel better soon. He sounded so sick in this video, more than when he was doing the logging in the last video. Baron did very well! They really are nice horses. I had never even seen a video where they Suffolk Punch until yours. Since that time I’ve found a couple of others doing logging, but I have to say that their horses don’t look as well trained as Baron is right now. Earl and Duke are so cute too. It really is a nice breed. Jim, feel better soon. Brenda, stay healthy.
Brenda , Zach , & mule / horse training with a very cute little girl with her pony , what an amazing video , dad helping, the little girl working her little pony to someday pull a cart , that little girl sure is trying , stay safe everyone , enjoy !
Dear Jim, sad to say, the combination of your cold, (sorry for you, I think you would rather be indoors,) the jingling of the harness and the sledge, I could only hear sufficient to inform me, I wanted to hear more. Hopefully, you can repeat your information sometime. By the way the 'Suffolk' horse IS well known for it's gentleness. PS Brenda, A few squirts of DW40 on the scales slide will help.
horses are more spooky in wind cause it diminishes their hearing abilities. i wouldn't drive that scoot across the gravel at all, only on the snow or grass to keep the runners form gouges and wear. you do you Jim. have a great day! horses in window super cute!!
I’ve been watching you all for quite some time now and I truly enjoy it every day. I haven’t been able to comment much because I usually watch on the tv. But today I’m on the phone and so I just had to let you know that I JUST LOVE WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS/HARD WORK! God bless both of you and all your family including the animals
so nice to see you jim, and brenda. this was a great video , i always enjoy your videos with the horses. jim don,t feel bad, i have a very bad cold too. big hi to trudy, and abby, they are great ladies, god bless, jim nova scotia, canada.
"Careful step" with that cold Jim, please don't push it. Brenda you do such a terrific job with explaining and filming (even in inhospitable weather) nice work! Love the calendar btw, beautiful pics for each month. Baron is living up to the steadfast reputation of suffolks. They have an ornery, cheeky side too, but I think it's attention seeking rather than malicious. Ken is a perfect mentor. Happy holidays.
All your farm animals seem to be so well cared for. I have noticed that drafts are becoming so popular for riding and trail horses. I do love those Suffolks also!! Baron is so amazing!!!!
I think Baron has to be my Favorite. He's colors always catch's my eye! Poor Jim, he sound really rough. Doesn't matter how sick ya get things have to get done. I have been so sick I can't stand the cold & doing things, but I know I have to take care of things. Get better soon, Jim! Ken is so much bigger than Baron or it's the camera angle. I am going to guess Baron weighs about 1490 lbs...lol.. I was WAY off. God Bless
Back when you weighed the horses prior to the Great Covid Horse Pull the Belgians had a combined weight of 3260 pounds for an average of 1630 each. And Baron here weighs 1685 pounds. That is one solid, dense horse. I have seen them referred to as being "built like a brick" but if these weights are in any way correct that is something of an understatement. They really are a deceptive breed, those short legs and dense bones makes them hard to compare with other breeds at a casual glance. Keep up the good work and keep well.
It’s so enjoyable to watch. And listening to you explaining the training, how and why you train the ways you do. Baron seems to be following the training so well. I’d like to go back and watch the earlier Baron’s training video. I noticed that Baron was feeling the bit, trying to get used to the bit in his mouth. 🙋♂️🐈🐈
I was just thinking that the first video frame where I think it was Earl peeking in the barn window would be precious for next year's calendar. Then you talked about your calendars and also how cute it was that Buck and Earl were peeking in the window, and now I can't decide which of the frames would make the better picture for next year's calendar 😂! Really, I can't say enough good about your calendars! You went with a good company for the quality of the calendar itself, and _of course_ the pictures just make it that much nicer! The t-shirts are extra good quality, too. I enjoyed this video as always 💕🐎
Aww...poor Jim. You really need to get some more rest! And Brenda, you have got serious surefootedness! I don't know how you do it. I would be all over the place, trying to film smoothly as you do. Lol. I can't wait til my calendar gets here!!! I'll be praying for Jim to get better quickly and soon! God bless you both and the rest of your furry critters!!! Stay warm! :)
Horses are spooky on windy days because they're on the bottom of the food chain, and always on the lookout for predators. The rushing sound the wind makes can make it difficult to discern predator sounds and also creates flying debris, leaves, etc., which doesn't help the situation. I generally opted not to saddle up on especially windy days, although once upon a time I had a quarter horse, who just did not care about the wind. He was a sweety!
Brenda & Jim, we love all your videos. Love all your beautiful working horses, but Baron is my favorite. He really did well today! Jim, hope you feel better soon, try some hot water, honey & lemon!!! Love from Virginia 💕
Stay in great health Jim and Brenda!! I like the way Baron is coming along...felt kinda sorry for Ken, having to wait on everybody to give the guy some credit for his excellent work and patients with the young upstart...i think Ken should be taken to get a drink first and have his stuff taken off first. What do you think??
I to hope Jim gits to feeling Beter soon, the fresh air might be good but the cold wind, well, it's life on the Farm. The colt was a little excited and nervine but did a good job.
One of the reasons horses are more spooky in windy weather, is all the movement the wind makes. The vision on the horse is largely movement based. Would think the noise does not help either. :)
I know from personal experience that it's hard to keep the muck by the barn in order; wonder if you have plans to add gravel or grade to that area and clear some of the misc stone pieces? Always lots to do and yet never enough time!
I vacuumed ten Thoroughbreds every day. If they can stand it, any horse can. If you vacuum first, before you curry, it never gets into the coat. It does take a pretty powerful vacuum. You can get an Electrogroom. Another option on one of the farms I worked on, was to have a central vac mounted in the grooming area. Baron didn't understand what you wanted the first time. He figured it out the second time, and did it absolutely perfectly. He is such a good boy. You can't let them stop in traffic when they have to poop. Its a good way to get rear ended by a car. That might explain to non horse people why you don't let him stop. Thoroughbreds learn to pee on command. After a race, sometimes a urine sample is needed. Also, you want them to pee when you start hot walking them to help them lose body heat. Most of the horses I worked with would pee if you whistled a repetitive two note whistle. I am really, really impressed with your Suffolks. As I've said before, I've only ever had one colt that broke in this easily. I've had horses that weren't this good after six months of being worked every day. I was guessing 1650. He fooled me. He is one dense, muscular horse, just with short legs.
Jim, please do take care of yourself. Maybe you should make a trip to an Urgent Care to make sure you don't have bronchitis or an upper respiratory infection that needs an antibiotic to get you better. The flu is going around real bad down in Tennessee. Baron did really well today. I don't think he was liking the bit in his mouth today! The colts were so cute peeping thru the window and wanting inside (can't blame them on a cold and windy day)😘 I was thinking that would make a cute picture of them peeping in for next year's calendar! Ken is such a great horse to help train Baron. He's still a growing boy and muscling up good!! I would love for you to weigh Lady to see how much she's gained being in foal! Her belly is definitely growing a nice baby bump now!❤👏👏👏 I actually thought I saw her baby moving or kicking yesterday when she was resting between log pulls! Have a good weekend!
I have really hairy, outdoor Dartmoor ponies that are almost impossible to get the dust off of in the winter. I use a standard Craftsman shop vac (6.5 hp/ 16 gal)) and instead of using suction, I blow them off with the wand using the wide mouthed attachment while lightly pressing it down into the coat and making long strokes against the hair. Seems not to cause as much of a static charge on the hair as using suction does and gets rid of the dust/dirt down to the skin. After using the vacuum, I finish with a brush to smooth the coat. Works even better in the summer on a short coat. Took a bit to get them used to it, but now they actually enjoy it and it has cut my grooming time in half. Hope Jim gets better soon. Being sick isn't any fun.
Baron’s weight 1450. Thinking of horse vacuuming before it was mentioned by Brenda. It is a good idea. It will definitely clean their coats better than brushing. Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
Brenda, I know things are starting to get cold up in your area. Since you are spending more time out videoing , you may consider purchasing a heated jacket. Milwaukee make a women's jacket that some friends of mine REALLY love. I have one as well that I really haven't used the heating feature much. They are expensive, but are quite worth it if you can afford it. I sure Jim has plenty of warm clothing and is used to working in the elements.
I remember back when my dad would drive a stud with a mare he would put vix on the studs nose and he said that would take his mind off the mare because he could only smell that. And there is nothing to be embarrassed about saying that he was a run away when he was a colt. We have one that did that same thing and he is one of our best horses now
1680 b4 water , ah ha.😄, from now til 1800 pounds will go the curve leveling off as Baron puts on the muscle and his frame stretches out and stout. I wonder if when Ken was little and spooked,, if that had anything to do with Abby's Fire.. I've seen powerful things happen when the Elements come together, fire, water, earth , air, or wind, heat and soil, when 2 or more come together incredible Force. The Horse... such a Spirited Creature. We Made in the image of God. The horse made in the image of Man. Thanks, and definately thumbs up. Great work out.
When I used to walk Greyhounds who were still living in kennels waiting to be rehomed after retiring from racing, they were always spooked by high winds. So I only walked 3 instead of the normal 6 in windy weather.

Jim,as an old saying goes, you sound sick as a horse!! Yep,it's late fall with a million things to do but taking a day or two off might keep you from getting alot sicker.Careful out there!! Thanks 🤧.

Barron did very well today.
I get alot of joy, upliftment, and contentment from watching your videos. Thank you! Have a blessed day.
Baron kept up with Ken real well today.
Enjoy watching Jim working the horses
Your ability to train horses is amazing. Years of working with horses shows.
I must admit I know people who have worked with them for years and never learned the fine details that you have.
You’re going to have a great team when you’re done.
Jim does have a lot of "horse sense". That is except when Jim is buying horses, he then has a lot of "horse cents"$
Baron did really well today considering he is pretty new to this type of work, he is extremely handsome can’t wait to see the foal with it having these two beauties for parents. Wow,Baron is filling out nicely.
Hundred pounds is a good gain. Thank you for sharing.🐴🐴
The Suffolk Punch is a great horse:
It has the face of an Angel, belly like a barrel
And an arse like the farmer’s daughter!
Feel better soon Jim the horses are so beautiful.
Thank you Jim and Brenda. I pray that you will feel better soon. Ken is so big that the other horses look small❤❤❤😊
Thank you for sharing another great video. I love watching how Baron is coming along.
I love your videos thanks for sharing. Jim hope you feel better.

Good job with Baron. Get better soon Jim 😊
Growing boys. Lol. Get well soon Jim. We love y’all.
Love watching you guys work with the colts . Great video as always . Get well soon Jim
I hope you get to feeling better soon Jim and please don’t give whatever you have to Brenda..🙂
It’s so enjoyable to watch. And listening to you explaining the training, how and why you train the ways you do.

I noticed that Baron was feeling the bit, trying to get used to the bit in his mouth. 🙋♂️🐈🐈

I've just realized how much bigger the Percherons are vs.the colts and also Lady !!
I was just thinking that the first video frame where I think it was Earl peeking in the barn window would be precious for next year's calendar. Whoa Jim! You could sing bass now! Prayers for you to get
well soon. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Great video as always!
You have confirmed what I have heard about Suffolks.
They tend to be easy to train.
good morning beautiful hor ses greetings from argentina
thank you guys..love from south alabama.
Hi Jim and Brenda love the video hope Jim feels better both of you have a nice weekend
Received my calendar today, thank you! Love the pics!
Received my calendar very promptly and I love it! Already have some appointments scheduled in it.
Love your horses you really work them well. It shows the amount of time you put into them.
It takes longer to change oil or repair an engine than to harness. Glad you choose horses.
Hello Jim, Brenda, Ken and Baron.
Pray Jim recovers from his cold. I have been sick for about acweek.
2000 lb, prayers for Jim to rebound from this cold !!!
I fiddle "Swinging on the Gate" on my violin.

Hey 👋
Feel better soon Jim.
I to hope Jim gits to feeling Beter soon, the fresh air might be good but the cold wind, well, it's life on the Farm. The colt was a little excited and nervine but did a good job.
About the wind & spookiness, mom made us mess with the horses anyway saying the "wind was just blowing up their skirts".
Good video guys, looking forward to watching the Suffolks grow
Napier 😾
You did well Baron an Ken get better Jim have a day love from TEXAS
Jim I hope you start feeling better .
I look forward to your videos. Thank you for sharing you wonderful farm and horses with us. Keep them coming. Best wishes from Colorado.
Mr Jim needs some hot lemon& honey tea for that cold. Prayers for fast heeling too
Outlaw
Your videos are always interesting,!!!
Get well, Ely too
Thank You
When I used to walk Greyhounds who were still living in kennels waiting to be rehomed after retiring from racing, they were always spooked by high winds. So I only walked 3 instead of the normal 6 in windy weather.

Great video thanks
I see what you mean by waiting till the colts are 2 or 3 before gelding them. They look so good.
Continued prayers for your health 🙂
Brenda it's on u- tube , sorry , I forgot to share that !
1500. Well than answers my question about Buck and Ken.
Jim sounds terrible, I hope he feels better soon 🙏.
09:40 - I seem to thing it's instinctual for animals (domesticated and wild) to be spooky (high alert) when its windy because they can't hear well and thus can't hear predators / danger. Just my opinion.
Barron, the big boy up to 1700 pounds now, 1680 after a trip to the rest room.
Great video !
In bad and windy weather horses, cows and deer etc can’t hear or smell predators as well so that would have them more vigilant and on edge.
