Jesus never said that there was any way for sinners to be forgiven after his ascension into Heaven except through confession to a priest. Catholics accept Jesus but are prevented because of conditions outside of their control. A merciful Jesus acknowledges that and gives mercy. Anyone else has either rejected that (Protestants) or have no access to Jesus and forgiveness. They might not warrant that mercy until they accept what Jesus has taught.

@@eamonnmurphy5385 Jesus had already explained at length to them how to deal with erring members, first personally ( see Matt 18:1-15, 21-35), and then with the authority of the church( see verses 16-20). Now He was reiterating that counsel given in former occasion. The church is to work faithfully for the restoration of erring members with encouragement to repent and turn from their bad ways. When there is evidence of having made things right with God and man, the church should receive the member into full fellowship. God had already accepted and pardoned the true repentant (Luke 15:1-7) The Bible is very clear that confession of sins and repentance of it are to be made directly to the throne of God in heaven (Acts 30:21; 1 John 1:9). Release of the soul from sin comes only through the merits of Christ and His personal mediation (1John 2:1; Ephesians 4:32) This prerogative God has never delegated to erring mortals, themselves so often in need of divine mercy and grace; even if they are leaders of the church (Matt 16:19) When evidence of genuine repentance is lacking the charges are to be “retained”. No man can be right with God when they are wilfully at odds with their fellow men. This principle is seen in the early church Acts 5: 1-11 Read also 1 Corinthians 5:11-13 Sadly now a days the men appointed as representatives in church are appointed by men, not by God because men disregard God’s leading more often than not. Men do whatever they want and the whole church is corrupt from leaders at the top. I believe God’s church is being built now by Christ, He gathers His own from everywhere, and He will lead them. At the second coming of Christ, that’s when His church will be very visible, those who kept the commandments of God and had the faith of Jesus. That’s why we are saved individually not corporately as a church.
If the Catholic Church is concerned because people are not going to Confession, as they should, perhaps it might help if they held confession, as they used to, & not in a highly lit room, with a priest sitting across from you in a throne like chair. I believe God hears & knows my every thought, & He is a very forgiving merciful God, that I am very comfortable talking to.
As a former Catholic, I can't believe I bought in to this lie. I have access and relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit without any barrier.
Yes your sins can be forgiven without a priest offering prayer of confession.. Before BC time we need a priest to take our sacrifices of sins to God. But after Jesus' death on the cross the curtain between the holy place and the most holy place was split from top to bottom, it showed that we can now have direct access to God without a priest or an intermediatory.
This reminds me of a child going before a parent and being questioned about something that may have been stolen. A child is normally held accountable by a parent. But when talking about adults they’re held accountable by other family adults, friends, the court system… society in general, because we’re to be treated as “adults”. Our conscience can also be used to hold ourselves accountable but the point being is… there is no “god” needed to be held accountable for our misdeeds.
Confession of sin to the priest at least once a year was instituted by Pope Innocent III., in the Lateran Council (Year - 1215). The Bible commands us to confess our sins directly to God. (Read Psalm 51:1-10; Luke 7:48; 15:21; 1st John 1: 8-9). Keep in mind, sacraments are man made teachings of the RC church.

As a Catholic, but not very exemplary, I think it depends who is who, Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox. God loves us all equally, even if we don't confess, we can be forgiven, but I think the sacraments are there more for better spiritual growth, greater joy and inner peace and ultimately a happier and healthier life. That's my opinion.
Best explanation I've ever heard online about the necessity of the Sacrament of Confession...and I'm a 59 year old Catholic High School Religion teacher. People who refuse to go to Confession don't experience the joy and sense of relief a good confession can make by way of God's grace. Sacramental Confession is a necessity for repentance and ammending your life so you don't commit the same sins over and over again. Too many Catholics don't appreciate this crown jewel of their faith, therefore don't experience the full grace of the Eucharist as well.

It takes great humility to accept the teachings of the church! If you know you know. How many of us can truely admit that we can stand in the presence of the all mighty with out guilt. Nothing unpure is worthy of heaven let that sink in. Have you asked yourself how many times you have offended God today? If we're conscious of our nothingness before God we perhaps understand.
There is one mediator between man and God and that is Jesus. Jesus is now our high priest. I recommend you read the book of Hebrews. The whole book. And maybe u should also read John 5 that u mentioned very closely. The jews were dismissing Jesus. Jesus is who they must go through for forgiveness of sins, not a fallible priest. The infallible sinless son of God, not a sinful created priest. Jesus didn’t call for a sacrament of confession to a priest. In John 20, Jesus breathed on the “apostles”. He told the “apostles” they could forgive sins. It doesn’t say that catholic priests can forgive sins. He went to the catechism to talk about different levels of sin. Show in the Bible where some sins separate us a little but some separate wholly. Such confusion in the way Catholic priests speak. “You (need) to confess to a priest but you don’t (need) to go to a priest”. It’s straight up contradiction. Ah yes, the catechism. The man made doctrines given by the church.

New Testament does not teach that there are to be priests in the New Covenant. Instead, the New Testament teaches that all believers are priests. First Peter 2:5-9 describes believers as a “holy priesthood” and a “royal priesthood.” Revelation 1:6and 5:10 both describe believers as “a kingdom of priests.” In the Old Covenant, the faithful had to approach God through the priests. The priests were mediators between the people and God. The priests offered sacrifices to God on behalf of the people. That is no longer necessary. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice, we can now approach God’s throne with boldness (Hebrews 4:16). The temple veil tearing in two at Jesus’ death was symbolic of the dividing wall between God and humanity being destroyed. We can approach God directly, ourselves, without the use of a human mediator. Why? Because Jesus Christ is our great High Priest (Hebrews 4:14-15; 10:21) and the only mediator between us and God (1 Timothy 2:5). The New Testament teaches that there are to be elders (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9), deacons (1 Timothy 3:8-13), and pastors (Ephesians 4:11) - but not priests

Does the priest hear from God the moment you confess your sins before he responds to you? No. You yourself are a priest worthy to go directly to God for forgiveness of sins. No earthy being should stand between you and God. Christ torn that priestly veil under the old covenant. Be empowered of the things of God yourself. Do not put your faith and fate in the hands of mere men. Spiritually, you could be more blessed than even the Pope himself.
The priest is the same sinner as everyone, and if he believe in his heart, that God raised Jesus Christ from dead, than he will be saved. Does not exist such a man, that can forgive the sins, only God can!
the Gospel of Jesus Christ is how we are Forgiven and Saved. Believing builds our Faith...We must believe in the birth, death, burial, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. He bought us from this world with his blood sacrifice. We can now go to God through the name of Jesus Christ with the power & comfort of the Holy Spirit...We are under the New Covenant nothing else but Jesus Christ is needed.
HI! YES! However, you must also forgive yourself after you have repented to God. You must also learn from what you have done... Go so far as to understand why what you did is wrong.
“Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.” John 20:23 Here Jesus was giving the apostles authority over the church. As in, if a member of the church committed a sin but repented, then that member of the church should be accepted still as a member, (as a brother or sister). They had the authority of making THAT DECISION of wether one was still in good standing as a member of the church or not. It had nothing to do with forgiving sins. Men cannot forgive sins, it is blasphemy! The pope, (pope Francis) is a blasphemer and so are all the priests who think they are standing as mediators. They (popes and priests) ought to go in prayer and confess and repent of blaspheming. They need to ask the only mediator Jesus Christ, (the only begotten Son of God) to intercede on their behalf with God, so that they may be forgiven!
*Everyone who has placed faith in Jesus is a priest of God, irrespective of gender. And that is the beauty of the Gospel. It's about receiving a citizenship in a Kingdom, and not about applying for membership in a church organization.*
At 3:10 you say that we as people can not go directly to God however this statement is in contradiction with scripture. Hebrews 4:16 tells us that we as can draw near to God and receive mercy and grace. Matthew 6:6 tells us to pray in secret to our Father in heaven. As believers we can go directly to God for all our needs.
Yes, sins can be forgiven and absolved without a priest. Confess to one another refers to telling the person you mistreated or wronged that you are sorry AND make amends for what you did. And God is the one who forgives sins. Jesus is the mediator.
The Word of God has a letter for the church Isaiah 1 13-17 Bring no more vain oblations, incense is an abomination unto me,the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies,I cannot bear,it is iniquityeven the solemn meeting. 14) Your new moons, and your appointed feasts my soul hateth, they are a trouble unto me,I am weary of bearing them 15)And when ye spread forth your hands,I will hide my eyes from youyea; when you make many prayers,I will not hear YOUR HANDS ARE FULL OF BLOOD 16) Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean, put away the EVIL of your doings before mine eyes, cease to do evil.
There are no sacraments in the bible. There is no apostle or priest, forgiving sins. This is pure Roman Catholicism lies. It's not found in the bible. Only faith in Jesus Christ can save a person from Hell, and pay for all his sins. John 3:16
What if you know you will never again get to go to confession such as if you are dying do you still need firm resolution to go to confession as soon as possible for contrition?
The apostle Paul explained that Jesus Christ is the high priest for all time. Hebrews 4 : 15 ,16. So all Christians were to be disciples. As in Matthew 28 19, 20, where Christ instructs the apostles to teach, and all those taught to do the same. All of us pray to God through Jesus Christ. Hence "No one comes to the Father EXCEPT THROUGH ME. He also said " YOU receive free, give free" so there was to be no paid clergy class.
I was raised Protestant. I converted to Catholicism when I was in my late teens. I'm working on it, but I do have some issues with certain elements of Catholicism. However those issues exist in Protestant churches as well. Catholicism more accurately reflects the spirit of Jesus, I think. As a convenient example, Catholics offer prayers and make reparations to God on behalf of their ignorant Protestant counterparts, while Protestants trash Catholics constantly. Based on that alone, which version of Christianity most accurately reflects the love of Jesus? That's all that really matters.
Yes we can for we have a high priest who dwells among us and His name is Jesus Christ. So we don't need any other priest. Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. Hebrews 6:20 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. Hebrews 7:27-28 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:15-16
We have one high priest in the Catholic Church, and that is Our Lord Jesus Christ. Catholic priests all share this one Divine Priesthood of Jesus Christ. From the first Apostles, to the unbroken line of Popes, to the cardnals and bishops and all the way down to the parish priests - all share in the One Divine Priesthood of Jesus Christ. Because Christ ordered it:
Christ ordained them (Luke 22:19); gave them the great commission (Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:19); and gave them the power to forgive (or not forgive) sins (John 20-22-23), shared with them the priestly function of offering His Sacrifice of the Cross (Luke 22:19:20), and ordered them to feed the people themselves (Mark 6:35-37; John 21:15-17) later, with His own Body and Blood.) There’s only one priest, one mediator, one Redeemer, and that is Jesus Christ. And that one priesthood He shares with the priests of the Catholic Church.
@@marietta1335 no . He doesnt share His priesthood. Apostolic gifts have ceased. And only the twelve apostles will have the right to judge, for only 12 thrones were placed for judging. ( Not speaking about the white throne judgement). What the popes say clearly deviates from the written word of God, showing and proving that they belong to the devil. And we all are chosen as royal priests and priesthood is not a ministry in the Church/body of Christ. There are only 5 types of ministry. And finally the titles given to pope are utter blasphemy ( ex. Holy father ( belongs to God the Father), Head of the Church ( belongs to God the Son), Vicar ( substitute) of Christ ( belongs to God the Holy Spirit))
@@marietta1335 They do not share anything with Jesus. There is nothing holy about anyone in the Catholic Church. Only Jesus is Holy. Only Jesus can forgive sins. The Apostles died out a long time ago. The great commission was given to us all. He gave them the power not to forgive if the people would not accept Jesus. John 20-22-23, Thomas wasn't there did he not receive the same thing. Yes but it was only the Apostles and it was not passed on from generation to generation. Anyone can go to Jesus and be forgiven. No priest needed.
@@christisalive7988 **”Apostolic gifts have ceased”** Wrong. It was not just “The apostles” given the power to forgive sins, but also their successors who were also forgiving sins, healing the sick, etc. (See Acts 1:21-26) The English word priest comes from the Greek word presbyters, which is usually directly translated as “presbyter” or “elder.” Even today, the priests of a diocese are referred to on the whole as “the presbyterate.” The sacrament of holy orders is passed on through the laying on of hands (see Acts 6:6). Paul writing to Timothy referred to Timothy’s ordination: “Do not neglect the gift you have, which was conferred on you through the prophetic word with the imposition of hands of the presbyterate” (1 Tim. 4:14). Paul referring to presbyters (see 1 Timothy 5:17-22) cautions Timothy, “Do not lay hands too readily on anyone” (v. 22). Early Christians believed that the ordination of deacon, priest, and bishop were of divine and apostolic origin: Take care, therefore, to be confirmed in the decrees of the Lord and of the apostles, in order that in everything you do, you may prosper in body and in soul, in faith and in love, in Son and in Father and in Spirit, in beginning and in end, together with your most reverend bishop; and with that fittingly woven spiritual crown, the presbytery; and with the deacons, men of God (Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Magnesians 13:1-2).
@@bcalvert321 **”No priest needed”** Why does the writings of the Early Church Fathers & every post-apostolic Christian writing disagree with this assertion? Ignatius of Antioch “For as many as are of God and of Jesus Christ are also with the bishop. And as many as shall, in the exercise of penance, return into the unity of the Church, these, too, shall belong to God, that they may live according to Jesus Christ” (Letter to the Philadelphians 3 [A.D. 110]). “For where there is division and wrath, God does not dwell. To all them that repent, the Lord grants forgiveness, if they turn in penitence to the unity of God, and to communion with the bishop” (ibid., 8). Basil the Great “It is necessary to confess our sins to those to whom the dispensation of God’s mysteries is entrusted. Those doing penance of old are found to have done it before the saints. It is written in the Gospel that they confessed their sins to John the Baptist [Matt. 3:6], but in Acts [19:18] they confessed to the apostles” (Rules Briefly Treated 288 [A.D. 374]). Ambrose of Milan “For those to whom [the right of binding and loosing] has been given, it is plain that either both are allowed, or it is clear that neither is allowed. Both are allowed to the Church, neither is allowed to heresy. For this right has been granted to priests only” (Penance 1:1 [A.D. 388]). Jerome “If the serpent, the devil, bites someone secretly, he infects that person with the venom of sin. And if the one who has been bitten keeps silence and does not do penance, and does not want to confess his wound . . . then his brother and his master, who have the word [of absolution] that will cure him, cannot very well assist him” (Commentary on Ecclesiastes 10:11 [A.D. 388]).
It is God alone who forgives sin. “Is the Pope changing Church teaching?” You’ve hit the nail on the head. This is Church teaching NOT God teaching. There is only one Mediator between God and man. This is the Lord Jesus Christ. Yes YOU CAN approach God as one of His creation. The Bible is full of men and women who approach God directly. A case in point is Hagar and Ishmael who cried out for help. God gives us extraordinary means to go to Him through the Grace He extended to us. 🙏🙏🙏
I used to be a Baptist before I switch to be a Catholic that's one thing about the Catholic church that I don't agree with God hears us when we talk to him when I'm alone in my room or driving in my truck I talk to Jesus and I talked to God like he's my friend and he's next to me Baptist and non Catholics have a closer relationship with God because of that. That's my opinion I know Catholics that do not do that which is wrong you should never feel alone and one of the reasons why I don't feel alone is because I talk to God everyday like he's next to me and he hears all I confess to my God Jesus Christ every night and he hears me and forgives me I know that in my heart I think to go to a priest is helpful for someone mentally when Jesus Christ died on the cross he became the high priest therefore no one has to go to a priest for sacrifice because Jesus is the sacrifice
For starters, we accept that the Eucharist is a sacrament of reconciliation, meaning that all who receive it are freed of their venial sins (CCC 1394). So, right there, we see an exception. You don’t HAVE to confess to a priest to have your sins forgiven. God can forgive whomever God wants whenever and however God wants. The sacraments do not bind God or limit what God can do! It is much better to say that the sacraments are the clearest forms of God’s grace, and, the crux of the matter, the only form that offers assurance of that grace. While God can show mercy and forgiveness in an infinite number of ways, it is only through the sacraments that we can be sure that we have received it, for they are visible signs of invisible graces. You can’t miss them! So, does someone have to go to confession to have their sins forgiven? Obviously not. And the Church doesn’t teach that. What it does teach is that, if someone wants the surety of absolution and wants to be a part of the community once more (because the community wants that assurance as well!) then there is only one ordinary means: the sacrament that Christ instituted. Deacon Matt's heart is in the right place, but his explanation needs a little polish.
Jesus said to his apostles: whatever you forgive is forgiven in heaven and whatever you retain is retained. He gave them the power to give God's forgiveness or withhold it.
5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me; 6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. 7 Then I said, ‘Here I am-it is written about me in the scroll- I have come to do your will, my God.’”[a] 8 First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”-though they were offered in accordance with the law. 9 Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second. 10 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, 13 and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. 14 For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
Okay, so I actually have the desire to go to confession. The priest I talked to last week said :Easter 2026 I can be confirmed into the Catholic Church. What now?
100 Percent YES. A Preist cannot forgive you for your Sins as GOD can. A Preist can forgive you for something you done to him. But GOD is the only one who can Forgive Sins.
All three my hearts desire a priest scripture oh lord forgive cleanse restore receive me my lord come live upon come within me every day yhankyou you will never forsake me I love you
Matthew 15:1-9 says that the doctrines of men(the sacraments) make the Word of God OF NO EFFECT ! Gods Word says it all ! WE DON’T NEED ANYTHING BUT GOD AND HIS WORD ! The Catholic Church is wrong and are too proud to admit it ! ! ! 🤔
1 Timothy 2:5-6 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
Jesus also gave the power to forgive sins to His apostles (the first priests), which not only cleanses a penitent of his sins but also gives him sanctifying grace (the life of God in our soul) and heals his spiritual wounds. That is the difference between a do-it-yourself confession and a sacramental confession. John 20:22-23 He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.”
What does the word MEDIATOR mean?? JESUS is our MEDIATOR between GOD and us. And then JESUS said that Whatever we ask the FATHER in HIS NAME, HE WIL DO IT.
@@marietta1335 All sins are forgiven by Jesus. The Apostles could forgive sins because of the places they were to go all would not know who Jesus was. He never said the only way to be forgiven was through a priest. There is no difference at all. Your sins are forgiven.
In John 20:20-23, Jesus transfers to the apostles his power to forgive sins: Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.“ Notice that Jesus sets it up so that the forgiveness of sins is received through the ministry of the apostles. From the words of Christ it is clear that the apostle has the authority to make a judgment whether to forgive or not to forgive. This paradigm is not foreign to the Jewish people. In the Old Testament the forgiveness of sins was associated with the intercession of the priest: “A man . . . shall confess the sin he has committed, and he shall bring his guilt offering to the Lord for the sin which he has committed . . . and the priest shall make atonement for him for his sin” (Lev. 5:5-6). Numbers 15:27-28 serves as another example: “If one person sins unwittingly, he shall offer a female goat a year old for a sin offering. And the priest shall make atonement before the Lord for the person who commits an error, when he sins unwittingly, to make atonement for him; and he shall be forgiven.” These passages show that God’s ordinary way of dealing with man’s sin is through God’s priests. Notice that it was not a part of God’s will for his people simply to confess their sins privately to him; their confession of sin involved the ministry of the priests. It is in light of this Old Testament context that Jesus tells his apostles to forgive sins. Jesus, as God does in the Old Testament, associates his new ordained ministers with the ministry of the forgiveness of sins. In doing so, Jesus is revealing his apostles to be priests. It is important to make a catechetical point here. Within the Old Covenant, the priest did not have the power to absolve sins from the individual’s soul. The priests simply offered sacrifice as a visible symbol for the individual’s repentance in hope for them to receive God’s mercy. The priests in the New Covenant, according to Jesus (cf. John 20:23), have the actual power to forgive sins as they so judge. Here Protestants usually respond, “Only God can forgive sins, not man.” No argument here. As Catholics, we are not saying that the apostles (and their successors) forgive sins by their own power. The power by which they absolve sins is the very power of Jesus Christ. The priests are simply the agents in persona Christi who exercise that power to which they have access because it resides in their soul by virtue of their ordination.
There is only one priest in the Catholic Church, and that is Jesus Christ. Catholic priests all share this one Divine Priesthood of Jesus Christ. There’s only one priest, one mediator, one Redeemer who forgives sins and that is Jesus Christ. And that one priesthood He shares with the priests of the Catholic Church.
In Scripture God states, "Confess your sins one to another." So as long as you you are a believer, you can hear the sins of others." Of course, only God can forgive sin; and He does so the moment you repent, which is usually before you decide to confess it. And it would be foolish to limit God and insist that confession to another believer is imprerative: God forigives all sin confessed to Him (1Jn.1:9). What heresy then to claim that a preist is necessary to vicariously forgive sin. A priest is is only a priest if of the tribe of Levi, a temple worker. All others are false. Yes, Catholics argue for papal Rome, and they are described still arguing on the other side of the grave in that most of all terrible passages, Mt.7:21-23.
If, as the Pope said, we can go to God directly, confess our sins and ask for forgiveness, why would it be necessary then to confess our sins to a priest again? Does God need a priests approval to forgive? Are there scriptures that justify confessing to a priest over God?
Yes father your are right Pope didn't abolished the sacrament of reconciliation or confession but he quoted the catechism that says if a priest is not around you say your confessions onto God directly and promise God that you must still confess this your immediate sins you confessed onto him when a priest is available for you and God will forgive you with the trust in you that you must surely confess this same your sins as soon as you have a priest for your next confession of your sins
KJV James 5 16 Confess your faults one to another, (not to a priest, or all individuals going to one mortal sinner to act as a high priest for confession)and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

After confessing my sins to the priest, he told me "get out!" I was in shock! I simply told him that I had used the Lord's name in vain several times.

Confession to priests IS in the Bible. John 20 23 King James Version Jesus says to His disciples that the sins they forgive are forgiven and the ones they don’t are not. This may be right after He shows up resurrected and gives them the Holy Spirit but I am not sure? There is also a quote to confess your sins to one another perhaps from one of the Apostles? Here Jesus was giving the apostles authority over the church. The other scripture you mention...

God had already accepted and pardoned the true repentant (Luke 15:1-7)
The Bible is very clear that confession of sins and repentance of it are to be made directly to the throne of God in heaven (Acts 30:21;
1 John 1:9). Release of the soul from sin comes only through the merits of Christ and His personal mediation (1John 2:1; Ephesians 4:32) This prerogative God has never delegated to erring mortals, themselves so often in need of divine mercy and grace; even if they are leaders of the church (Matt 16:19)
When evidence of genuine repentance is lacking the charges are to be “retained”. No man can be right with God when they are wilfully at odds with their fellow men. This principle is seen in the early church Acts 5: 1-11
Read also 1 Corinthians 5:11-13
Sadly now a days the men appointed as representatives in church are appointed by men, not by God because men disregard God’s leading more often than not.
No they can't. Why? Because sin is an illusion, as is priesthood - Christ is the only mediator, not a man.
Not quite.
Jeremiah 33:3
3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

God bless you Deacon. I very appreciate this peace of mind
Confessing sins to a priest instead of God is blasphemy against God,
As a Catholic, but not very exemplary, I think it depends who is who, Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox.

Jesus Christ is our high priest we confess our sins to.
@@CatholicDefender-bp7my Jesus is our Great High Priest. Is only through him that your sins are forgiven not a mere human priest unholy before God. Christ sanctifies us before God, not Man. You go directly to him whether you hear from him or not. What's the point of the Good News if you have no access to Christ and God?
1 John 1:9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
@@CatholicDefender-bp7myNo man can forgive sins so praying to a priest is pointless even if he tells you your sins are forgiven.
Scriptural basis of Confession: John 20:21b -23.
“Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.” John 20:23
Here Jesus was giving the apostles authority over the church.
@@doinareay5460 John 20:22-23. That's the only part you got right.

What a superb explanation!

Confession is useless without Repentance.
Hope through prophecy youtub Chanel will enlighten you on that with your bible in hand ,guided by God's holy spirit.
Yes we can for we have a high priest who dwells among us and His name is Jesus Christ. So we don't need any other priest.
Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 6:20
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore.
Hebrews 7:27-28
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

@@christisalive7988 **”Apostolic gifts have ceased”**
Wrong. It was not just “The apostles” given the power to forgive sins, but also their successors who were also forgiving sins, healing the sick, etc. (See Acts 1:21-26)
The English word priest comes from the Greek word presbyters, which is usually directly translated as “presbyter” or “elder.” Even today, the priests of a diocese are referred to on the whole as “the presbyterate.”
The sacrament of holy orders is passed on through the laying on of hands (see Acts 6:6).
Early Christians believed that the ordination of deacon, priest, and bishop were of divine and apostolic origin:
Take care, therefore, to be confirmed in the decrees of the Lord and of the apostles, in order that in everything you do, you may prosper in body and in soul, in faith and in love, in Son and in Father and in Spirit, in beginning and in end, together with your most reverend bishop; and with that fittingly woven spiritual crown, the presbytery; and with the deacons, men of God (Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Magnesians 13:1-2).
@@bcalvert321 **”No priest needed”**
Why does the writings of the Early Church Fathers & every post-apostolic Christian writing disagree with this assertion?
Ignatius of Antioch
“For as many as are of God and of Jesus Christ are also with the bishop.
Basil the Great
“It is necessary to confess our sins to those to whom the dispensation of God’s mysteries is entrusted. Those doing penance of old are found to have done it before the saints. It is written in the Gospel that they confessed their sins to John the Baptist [Matt. 3:6], but in Acts [19:18] they confessed to the apostles” (Rules Briefly Treated 288 [A.D. 374]).
Ambrose of Milan
“For those to whom [the right of binding and loosing] has been given, it is plain that either both are allowed, or it is clear that neither is allowed. Both are allowed to the Church, neither is allowed to heresy. For this right has been granted to priests only” (Penance 1:1 [A.D. 388]).
Jerome
“If the serpent, the devil, bites someone secretly, he infects that person with the venom of sin.

Nope!
5 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said:
“Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
but a body you prepared for me;
6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings
you were not pleased.
7 Then I said, ‘Here I am-it is written about me in the scroll-
I have come to do your will, my God.’”[a]
8 First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them”-though they were offered in accordance with the law.
Christ is the only High Priest we need.

John 20:22-23

In John 20:20-23, Jesus transfers to the apostles his power to forgive sins:
Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.“
Notice that Jesus sets it up so that the forgiveness of sins is received through the ministry of the apostles.
And the priest shall make atonement before the Lord for the person who commits an error, when he sins unwittingly, to make atonement for him; and he shall be forgiven.”
These passages show that God’s ordinary way of dealing with man’s sin is through God’s priests.

Mass, Holy Communion and Confession are the only way to purify yourself from sin.

What about the people who don't have a priest or a pastor to confess but they have faith in Jesus are there sins be forgiven?

ITS BECAUSE WE ARE IN CONTACT WITH THE LIVING GOD . and He gives us verification that we are saved and on the right path . YOU PEOPLE MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF A SMALL MIRACLE and our lives are filled with miracles sometimes daily . WE HAVE SEEN THINGS OF GOD THAT EVEN THE PROPHETS HAVE NOT SEEN so we will never submit to your false religion FOR GOD TOLD US FIRST thou shalt make no images or bow to them . AND WE ARE GOING TO OBEY GOD AND IGNORE YOU PEOPLE
Yes.
There is no controversy.
Sadly our friend is trusting in himself to access God and also places a unscriptural barrier, the imposter priest, before those who will approach Him by the only way available to man - the blood of Jesus.
Heb 10 v 19 says- Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God...'
We can boldly access God, through a new and living way and stand before God in prayer, not in our own merit but clothed in the righteousness of Christ, entering into the holiest, not through a confession booth, but through the blood of Jesus, the High Priest who is just and faithful to forgive our sins and cleans us from all unrighteousness.
Can your sins be forgiven without a priest?
YES
Only in certain circumstances.
@@garydeblasio8810 Which certain circumstances?
@@freshliving4199 if you can't get to church because they were closed (covid-19).
The critics of confession i think are not considering that priests offer direction in giving a sincre and meaningful confession. Priests are a trusted person to help people overcome with guilt from sin
I often have to rely on what you are speaking of. I go to Confession as soon as I can. In fact I notify a priest as soon as possible but sometimes he can not come immediately. I am disabled and need a priest to come to me! Actually seeing you in a Confessional makes me sad as I want to be there now and hear the words of absolution!
God will always give you the graces that you need. I’m publishing a weekly UA-cam video on episodes from the life of Don Bosco, entitled ST JOHN BOSCO by JOE ZAMMIT. In this series I’m narrating events and miracles from the splendid life of Don Bosco. St John Bosco used to perform a miracle almost every day, through the intercession of Mary Help of Christians. From the lives of saints we can learn how to love God more and draw closer to him. Thank you
Do it directly to God, no need to hear from a priest. GOD IS HEARING YOU, JUST LISTEN AND YOU WILL HEAR GOD IN YOUR HEART AND SOUL.
Be at peace with God, not a priest who is as human as you and I. Only GOD through JESUS CHRIST has the power to forgive our sins anytime, anywhere we are as long as we ask to forgive our sins...GOD hears us always.
I understand the extra comfort in hearin the words of absolution from a priest. Do know that you can always confess your sins to God directly, and be assured of full forgiveness whenever you need that.

Please confirm is our sin will be forgiven thru the priest or we can be forgive thru going to church .A part of service is when the believers will be praying for forgiveness?
Question is only the priest can hear and forgive the sins in the name of Jesus??
A priest cannot forgive a person for the sins committed against others… a person does have access to God without the cult named Catholic Church.
IT'S NEVER BEEN NECESSARY to confess to a priest, and the only sins a priest ACTUALLY can forgive, are sins against himself. BIBLICALLY we confess to God, and our ADVOCATE (Jesus) will forgive, and CLEANSE us from all unrighteousness!! (1 John 1:9)
Very informative...thank you!❤
Ofcourse.
But it can be harder to beleive it. You may never feel worthy of deliverance or grace.
None of us are worthy of grace. That is what is so amazing about the grace of God.
