Just a short note to say thankyou for making this video. It gave me the courage to perform this maintenance task myself, instead of lining the dealer's pocket (they wanted 850€ to do this!). The most difficult step for me, was getting the filling port bolt out, it was a little fiddley. Other than that, everything went as per your vid ! Many thanks.
The step in this procedure that has been missed is that once topped up you need to run the engine and select neutral with park brake on. The fluid level will drop and you can then pump another 0.8 Litres into the transmission before it starts to seep out again. Just pump until full then screw the hex head screw back in.
@peteloganirish7886 I am not an expert, only someone who has done the procedure on my own car. Repeat 3 times to get much cleaner new fluid with minimal old fluid left. But even just doing the procedure once will have a good benefit.
@aquaredable it was your video in the first place that gave me the confidence to actually carry out this procedure, so thank you. Very helpful, and I'm glad I could add my bit
Thought I would come back and say thankyou! So what I had was a small nudge on 3rd gear clunk kind of and slow gear changing also. So I did some reaserch decided to use Liqui Molly Tek 1800 used in jaguars bmws and landrovers is what I read in the forums. Also their was another oil that was more pricey but guys said this one was also excellent for the ZF8 speed tranny . I have 2015 disco sport. I DOnT have the 6 speed Asian tranny. Drained from the bottom plus where you mentioned and then closed that and opened the top bolt to add the oil. I did remover front tire and lowered my Jack to level the car out without the wheel. The Liquid Molly oil jugs came with a straw you pop out and just squeeze it into the whole very conviniént! As I approached to empty the 3rd liter oil started coming out. In forum I read to start the engine and place the car in Neutral while engine is running and press emergency brake also just in case. This lowered the oil level and I was able to ad another 1/2 liter so about 3 1/2 liters went in I quickly put the bolt in and shut car off. Came back tightened up no to much and put everything back and test drive. Absolute night and day difference ! Can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner! I have 101k on the dash and bought car with 60k. Not sure if this service was done but oil came out dirty brown! Car shifts super smooth now thankyou so much! Only video I found that explained my ZF8 Transmisión on my disco sport ! ❤
I also have a Land Rover Discovery Sport 2015 model year 150 HP 9 speed ZF automatic transmission. 9:26 You need a wheel alignment. Tread on the outer side is almost gone compared to inner tread. Also, I thought ZF auto trans are sealed for life. I have a 2018 Jaguar XF 25T & it has a ZF auto trans
sealed for life is a term to sell the vehicle. It's really best to replace the fluid every 40 or 50,000 miles to be safe...for normal driving. Extreme driving conditions might require every 30k.
I was thinking that but the landrover dealer told me the gearbox has to be taken apart to get to the filter, I'll stick with just changing the fluid regularly
Question for you, I have a 2012 rover evoque, when I shift from reverse to drive the car jolts, sometimes a hard jolt, could that be because of low or bad transmission fluid?
So you said you have changed the Rear-Axle oil, have you done a video on it, I was looking at the Work-Manual PDF that I downloaded, the capacity is 3/4 Qt, I see the Fill Plug, the Work-Manual talks about there 'No provision is made to fully drain the rear differential during repair procedures', then again it show the Rear drive axle/differential fluid drain plug 26, Rear drive axle/differential fluid filler plug 26 torque ft lbs settings...
I have a 2012 range rover evoque. Should i also change the filter and where do i find it? It kinda looks different than other cars with transmission oil pan so i dont know where to find the filter. Transmission fluid and filter havent been changed ever since it was bought
change the fluids at least twice over a period of months before filiters, in order to get all the fluid out from the torque convertor as when you drain the unit, it retains a litre or two that will mix in with the new.
How much fluid did you get to drain out? Many people have told me they only get 2L out, but a few have said they get 4L to drain. If it is 4L then 2 changes replaces about 85% of the fluid. If it is only 2L that drains out then only about 52% is replaced with 2 changes and only 67% with 3 changes.
Just in case anyone else is wondering, I got somewhere between 3.1 and 3.2L to drain out. When putting it back in it would only take about 1.9L before it started running out the fill hole. I think you have to cycle through the gears and then it will take about a liter more.
Hi Andrew, thanks for your video tutorial. I planned to change the atf oil yesterday and drained out on my 2012 evoque. Now I am having trouble to find fill plug to put new oil. Can you please let me know where exactly is it located . I am in Australia and its a right hand drive
