- George "Murasaki" Higa is a legendary keyboardist from Japan known for his band MURASAKI (it means purple in japanese, a tribute to their favourite band Deep Purple!!!)
After Murasaki disbanded in 1978, George formed "George Murasaki & Mariner". The group worked in California and recorded two albums and a single. On the second album the band's name was simply MARINER, suggesting something more than a project of the keyboardist, but soon after that LP the group disbanded.... Mariner also featured the vocal talents of Hiroto Arasaki (aka John Joseph Paterson) that would later front Heavy metal army and Eastern orbit.
Nice prog hard rock on both their records, this is a dreamy track of their first LP "MARINER ONE" from 1979.

All the band members were and still our my close friends. Only two JJ Patterson and George Higa ( Murasaki) are still on island. John Pringle. Glenn Ford and Morgan Hoffler are back in the states as I am. Another close buddy was John Pietricone who played in Change of Years.
JJ's lyrical vocals are amazing! Mariner is my hero since I was a teenager!
Took me damn near 40 years but I finally got a copy of this album. This was very influential to me. It showed there was a lot of great stuff out there, not found on the beaten path so to speak.
Loved this band when I was stationed in Okinawa in the early 1980's. Great keyboards.

I knew this band when I was stationed on Okinawa(Torii Station)in the 70's; worked with Morgan, Glenn and John Pringle!!!
I spent far too much time at the package store there. A friend lived across the street off base while we were stationed at Kadena AFB
John Paterson is my uncle.
Just simply like this song. I think it will be hard to get on CD though, but it sounds really nice.........
