In the first parking lot scene when Doc and Marty meet there, it's called "Twin Pines Mall", and Doc talks about the guy who used to own the land having an obsession with pine trees. When Marty goes back in time to 1955 at that same spot, it's implied that the owner of the barn he crashes into is the guy Doc talked about. While trying to escape in the Delorean, Marty runs over one of a pair of smallish pine trees, and the owner yells "My pine! Why you..!" while firing his shotgun. When Marty returns to 1985 at the end of the movie, the mall is now called "Lone Pine Mall"...
That's a good one. I think there are a lot of background details in the trilogy that aren't focused on. A funny/scary one is that in the Biff-controlled timeline, Nixon is president for a third term.
In Ground Hog Day when Phil was in the ER waiting room and the nurse tells him about the old man’s death in the background you see a boy and his mother. The boy has a broken leg, later he’s the boy that never thanks Phil for catching him when he falls out of the tree. In Clue, if you watch it more than once then you know the identity of “Mr. Boddy” and his attempted escape and plan to have Wadsworth killed to save himself takes on a different meaning. Even the way Wadsworth says, “You, too, Mr. Boddy” seems more sarcastic and sinister.

That happens in tons of movies. That is not what a sub plot is. Sub plot answers questions like "why is he like that" "where was she" etc. A bet is not a sub plot just as whispering is done to be discreet.

A profound unspoken plot point occurs in Harold and Maude - when the camera lingers on Maude's arm - showing a number tattooed on her inner forearm - revealing that she is a Holocaust survivor. I think this is a fascinating frame to her free wheeling spirit.
I remember that as the quintessential moment of realization that her "joie de vivre" is a tribute to those who didn't survive, not just a personality trait. If it weren't for one particular family member who was the only member of his family to survive and become my children's great grandfather, they wouldn't be here. So that's an important point to me personally, as well as to the film.
My absolute favorite one of these is from Pulp Fiction. On their first meeting Butch wants to beat the crap out of Vincent Vega until Vega is called over to Marsellus Wallace's table. Vincent walks off grinning because Butch can't do a thing to him as he's protected, specifically when Marsellus shouts something about Vincent "being his long time friend" or something similar. Cut to several scenes later and Vincent is complaining about how some asshole keyed his car and he wishes he could've gotten a hold of the guy that did it, how he would've absolutely smashed him. Quentin confirmed decades later in a radio interview that it was in fact Butch that keyed the car.
Butch in _Pulp Fiction_ is, imo, just as interesting of a case of casting against type as Vincent is, even if that became more plain the longer Willis's career continued. It's hard to imagine the average "Bruce Willis character" keying a car, if you catch my drift.
Don't want to sound like a know it al,l but that's what I like about Quentin Tarantino films, something little like him mentioning his keyed car could be nothing or come up later. People hate watching movies that make you think with me. Cause I have to say "Bruce Willis keyed his car" and everyone is confused. Half want me to explain how I got that from people talking in a bar while forgetting the earlier talk with the drug dealer, other half don't care and would rather be watching Die Hard and not getting all the subtle things in that movie. Hate when people don't notice all the stuff on the side, usually better than the actual story. Some story tellers are amazing. Like Pulp Fiction the main plot doesn't even matter to some. Do you really care about the briefcase? Don't even really care what was in it. When the MacGuffin is truly irrelevant that's usually a good story.
On the stolen Goya painting: Often these stolen masterpieces end up as leverage for a lighter sentence for big criminals. They don't end up being sold. They end up being hidden until they get caught. Nothing lowers a sentence better like a stolen and lost Van Gogh.

Lewis is probably the most interesting side character in the Truman Show. He joined production as a kid. Can a kid really make a fully informed decision about whether to be in a show like that? In a way he's almost as much of a victim as Truman is
He's basically lived the same life. When he's not on the set, he's hugely famous and constantly watched anyway. I'm sure that would mess with anyone's sense of reality pretty hard.
I love videos like this that give movies deeper meanings. One that no one usually talks about is from the Star Wars prequels. If you pay close attention to the dialogue, Palpatine all but says he's Anakin's father via Force conception through Midichlorians. Even Anakin's own mother can't explain her miraculous pregnancy. There are lots of rumors and theories that the prequels had re-writes to appease fans who didn't like the midichlorian thing. Not that the sequels cleared up much of anything, but the recent movies still left Anakin's origin a mystery that could easily be explained with this single unspoken plot.
I completely agree with you, you talk about the scene where he also tells Anakin that good and evil are only points of view. The detail that leaves that moment out of this list is that it is completely spoken dialogue.
@@aztarot I dunno if it's spoken. I got into this with a SW buddy of mine, and he thought I was absolutely bonkers. He absolutely thought Shmi Skywalker met some stranger and had a one-night stand from her dialogue. I was like, "HOW did you miss the 'Anakin is Space Jesus' subplot?" And Palpatine never outright says he was that mysterious man Shmi met. I felt like the only person in the world who wanted the sequels to explain midichlorians, gray (neutral) force users that weren't Jedi or Sith, and maybe even the reveal of how midichlorians could've made it possible to CLONE JEDI/SITH and eventually enhance or inject midichlorians... Just so much potential I liked about that plot, which ultimately feels like it somehow got scrapped in hindsight. I know Disney wanted to distance itself from the slavery thing, but Star Wars DID have slaves at one point; and what we're suggesting happened to Shmi is no less than rape of someone else's slave. They've sanitized the galaxy far, far away, so I doubt we'll ever get to see any of this ever entirely explained. In the books for the sequels, Palpatine had some secret wife BS... So if it was ever spoken, Disney's retcon made it all unspoken.
This was a pleasure to watch. The Gremlins one got me good lol. I am going to say that the Alcoholic friend in Truman Show was pretty apparent to me at least. However I feel pretty disappointed in myself that I never noticed the rope burn mark on Aldo's neck. Great video!!
Excellent video. What about the end of the first back to the future. Doc Brown didnt really come back to help Marty and Jennifer's kids, he needed a way to teach Marty about being called chicken to avoid the accident caused by Doc. He realized that since he invented the time machine Marty was able to get in the accident with the Rolls Royce. If Marty had not gone back and changed history he wouldn't have had the truck. Since in the original time line the family car was wrecked he had no way to get in the accident in the first place, so Doc realized that he ruined Marty's career as a rock star. That's also why Doc says the infernal machine has caused nothing but trouble.

I love The Searchers. Not being a fan of the genre, it's the only western I can watch. The ending now made all the more heartbreaking by the idea that Debbie is, in fact, Ethan's daughter.
Glenn, have you tried Lonesome Dove? I know lots of friends that aren't into westerns but love that mini series and installments. I highly recommend it especially if you enjoy the Searchers.
I cannot STAND John Wayne Westerns, they are devoid of any grit or realism. Want to watch a really good, gritty, and realistic Western; watch any featuring Clint Eastwood. Eastwood himself couldn't stand John Wayne Westerns for the same reason
Another good one is that in the watchmen film universe Thomas and Martha and Wayne don’t die… It’s a blink and you’ll miss it moment but you see a superhero foiling the mugging in the opening

Another blink and you'll miss it thing from Addams Family Values: During the scene when Wednesday and Pugsley are first at Camp Chippewa, they both try to kill themselves. Wednesday drinks from a bottle labeled "Poison" and Pugsley can be seen in the background putting his head in a noose.

Also in Truman show, the sips his friend takes from the can are close up stage sips. It’s rare to see this angle in film because it can expose that the actor isn’t drinking to avoid coughing or missing a cue, with the idea that he’s a struggling alcoholic you could argue that the close up shots are fully intentional.
The Gremlins time machine did not go unnoticed when I was a kid. That was one of my mom's favorite movies, we had the VHS and watched it probably once a month, so that machine in the background sent the whole family cackling.

Yes, I do like it when part of a story can be left unspoken, yet the meaning is obvious. E. E. "Doc" Smith wrote the "Lensman" books, a series of novels of the sort my parents always referred to affectionately as "shoot-'em-ups", about members of the Lensmen, a multispecies police force which was very obviously the inspiration for the Green Lantern Corps. The earliest were squeaky-clean tales without the slightest hint of sex, much less anything the least bit lurid or kinky, but in the last book, *_Children of the Lens,_* it becomes obvious that the son and four daughters of Lensmen Kimball Kinnison and Lensman Virginia Samms were destined to marry incestuously and become parents of the next stage of human evolution.
That was a great video.. very engrossing and everything new. Totally surprised about Shaun of the dead... one of my favourite movies... Loved the Cornetto trilogy.
In the deleted scenes, Shaun's ex Liz addresses the whole DJ thing a lot more. It's genuinely funny but it's understandable why it was cut for time and pacing.

As a huge HG Wells fan and lover of The Time Machine, I noticed that scene in Gremlins the first time I saw it. That's the only one I got on the first watch, though.
Some of these are very interesting. I think some of them that include deleted scenes are a bit weird. They're not "unspoken" as so much as they didn't happen.
The first time I saw A Quiet Place, I didn't realize there was supposed to be subtitles, so I watched without. I know a bit of ASL, so it was refreshing to see. Later I saw the movie with the subtitles and it made more sense. :P
There was a whole subplot cut out of Se7en that develops Somerset more. In the beginning, he looks at a house away from the city that he plans to buy after he retires, and he carries a swatch of wallpaper in his pocket to remind him of what he has to look forward to. In the end, he throws it away and decides to stay, because he's still got work to do.
I was hoping to see Back to the Future mentioned here. An unspoken subplot is that George is left-handed. He was forced to learn to use his right hand by parents and/or teachers, which was actually a thing that happened back then because some people thought left-handedness was evil. In the original 1985 he's still a lefty operating as a righty, that's why he's so awkward. Then Marty interfered in 1955 and caused George to confront Biff. He tried, weakly, to punch Biff with his right hand, which was immediately disabled, forcing him to flatten Biff with a left hook. That's why he looks at his (left) hand the way he does before he asks Lorraine if she's alright. From that moment on he started using his left hand again, and that's a big part of why things got better for him, because he was finally being himself.
Whatever Jules takes about, I'm going to like it. In 10 seconds I'm clicking the LIKE button. It could starts with, "let me talk to you about tissue paper..." and I will like it.

@@QuasiKnobby Death was just going to take her. Then her father challenges him to reveal himself and his intentions. “If you want to be human, tell her the truth” or something close. So Death says she will still love him. Her father says “prove it.” Such a great ending. So much tension.
My favorite is the first timeline in Source Code is an alternate reality, not the original one. This can be found because the bomb on the train was supposed to be detonated when passing the other passenger train but doesn't, and instead blows up near a tanker train. This is shown to us when the bad guy Frost is interacted with in one of the Source Codes and he admits that his timing was interrupted because of the interaction and then detonates the bomb.

Louis being an alcoholic in the Truman show could also just be part of the script of Truman's life. They need excuses for all the actors to have long vacations from the show and also most if not all the characters have some sort of flaw. This helps deceive Truman. Also they want Truman to drink because it'll keep him thinking less, more fearful, and overall less likely to figure it out and escape. So while I think Louis being a drunk might be because of guilt I think it's much more likely that in such a controlled environment that wouldn't be allowed unless controlled for and on purpose.

If we are going for a purely technical sense, Gremlins doesn’t show time travel exists within its universe, it shows a Time Machine scientist and his machine vanish in an explosion of some kind. For all we know the scientist only blew himself up attempting to time travel.
Not sure if exactly a plot point… In Nerve, during the scene where Sid is dared to and attempts walking across a ladder between apartment buildings…it is stated that she has to record herself completing the dare or it doesn’t count, right? Well, toward the beginning of the movie, when Sid moons the school population during a pep rally…someone else recorded her completing the dare and she moved to her next round. 🤷♀️
In MAD MAX 3, one of the prisoners in underworld is a former cop from MAD MAX 1. Max walks past him without recognizing him, But the man spots Max and recognizes him. And now these former cops are the have nots/misfits/criminals in this world. So things have come full circle. The first shall be last and the last shall be first.
To be fair, that time travel machine in the Gremlins invention convention could’ve just vaporized the operator so we don’t know if time travel really exists in that universe 🤔

The James Bond one was repeated in Spectre with "Woman with a fan" by Clemente Modigliani. The painting was stolen in 2010 and appears in the movie.

When Takagi is being reticent while being questioned by Hans, Theo says to Karl, "I told you!" and Karl replies, "It's not over yet."
And you can see Hans reacting to their interaction with an almost eye roll.

What's the line with Julie? Afaik even the author confirmed that nothing ever happened between Julie and Scott.
Scott’s prior relationship with Kim is very evident, but I didn’t pick up on hints he dated Julie.

Lewis is probably the most interesting side character in the Truman Show. He joined production as a kid. Can a kid really make a fully informed decision about whether to be in a show like that? In a way he's almost as much of a victim as Truman is
He's basically lived the same life. When he's not on the set, he's hugely famous and constantly watched anyway. I'm sure that would mess with anyone's sense of reality pretty hard.
I love videos like this that give movies deeper meanings. One that no one usually talks about is from the Star Wars prequels. If you pay close attention to the dialogue, Palpatine all but says he's Anakin's father via Force conception through Midichlorians. Even Anakin's own mother can't explain her miraculous pregnancy. There are lots of rumors and theories that the prequels had re-writes to appease fans who didn't like the midichlorian thing. Not that the sequels cleared up much of anything, but the recent movies still left Anakin's origin a mystery that could easily be explained with this single unspoken plot.
I completely agree with you, you talk about the scene where he also tells Anakin that good and evil are only points of view. The detail that leaves that moment out of this list is that it is completely spoken dialogue.
@@aztarot I dunno if it's spoken. I got into this with a SW buddy of mine, and he thought I was absolutely bonkers. He absolutely thought Shmi Skywalker met some stranger and had a one-night stand from her dialogue. I was like, "HOW did you miss the 'Anakin is Space Jesus' subplot?" And Palpatine never outright says he was that mysterious man Shmi met. I felt like the only person in the world who wanted the sequels to explain midichlorians, gray (neutral) force users that weren't Jedi or Sith, and maybe even the reveal of how midichlorians could've made it possible to CLONE JEDI/SITH and eventually enhance or inject midichlorians... Just so much potential I liked about that plot, which ultimately feels like it somehow got scrapped in hindsight. I know Disney wanted to distance itself from the slavery thing, but Star Wars DID have slaves at one point; and what we're suggesting happened to Shmi is no less than rape of someone else's slave. They've sanitized the galaxy far, far away, so I doubt we'll ever get to see any of this ever entirely explained. In the books for the sequels, Palpatine had some secret wife BS... So if it was ever spoken, Disney's retcon made it all unspoken.
In Seven, Somerset told Doe (unknowingly) that Tracy was pregnant. Doe was posing as a reporter who paid Somerset for info.

This was a pleasure to watch. The Gremlins one got me good lol. I am going to say that the Alcoholic friend in Truman Show was pretty apparent to me at least. However I feel pretty disappointed in myself that I never noticed the rope burn mark on Aldo's neck. Great video!!
Excellent video. What about the end of the first back to the future. Doc Brown didnt really come back to help Marty and Jennifer's kids, he needed a way to teach Marty about being called chicken to avoid the accident caused by Doc. He realized that since he invented the time machine Marty was able to get in the accident with the Rolls Royce. If Marty had not gone back and changed history he wouldn't have had the truck. Since in the original time line the family car was wrecked he had no way to get in the accident in the first place, so Doc realized that he ruined Marty's career as a rock star. That's also why Doc says the infernal machine has caused nothing but trouble.
The poop joke in “The Spy who shagged me” wasn’t just an attempt at gross out humor, it was a crucial plot point.

Later on, he sees the same child in a red coat on a heap of bodies being wheeled to a mass grave.

I love The Searchers. Not being a fan of the genre, it's the only western I can watch. The ending now made all the more heartbreaking by the idea that Debbie is, in fact, Ethan's daughter.
Glenn, have you tried Lonesome Dove? I know lots of friends that aren't into westerns but love that mini series and installments. I highly recommend it especially if you enjoy the Searchers.
I cannot STAND John Wayne Westerns, they are devoid of any grit or realism. Want to watch a really good, gritty, and realistic Western; watch any featuring Clint Eastwood. Eastwood himself couldn't stand John Wayne Westerns for the same reason

Also in Truman show, the sips his friend takes from the can are close up stage sips. It’s rare to see this angle in film because it can expose that the actor isn’t drinking to avoid coughing or missing a cue, with the idea that he’s a struggling alcoholic you could argue that the close up shots are fully intentional.
I always thought John Doe found out about Tracy's pregnancy, when he cut her open. This picture haunted me most.
The Gremlins time machine did not go unnoticed when I was a kid. That was one of my mom's favorite movies, we had the VHS and watched it probably once a month, so that machine in the background sent the whole family cackling.
that was the only one that was totally unmissable to me as a child, mainly because I have watched the time machine 3 times by the time I saw gremlins... and I'm sure it was purely just a joke thrown in as they were at an inventors convention. It wasnt actually confirming time travel in the gremlins universe, it was simply a callback reference to the film, funny though

"Doc" Smith wrote the "Lensman" books, a series of novels of the sort my parents always referred to affectionately as "shoot-'em-ups", about members of the Lensmen, a multispecies police force which was very obviously the inspiration for the Green Lantern Corps. The earliest were squeaky-clean tales without the slightest hint of sex, much less anything the least bit lurid or kinky, but in the last book, *_Children of the Lens,_* it becomes obvious that the son and four daughters of Lensmen Kimball Kinnison and Lensman Virginia Samms were destined to marry incestuously and become parents of the next stage of human evolution.
That was a great video.. very engrossing and everything new. Totally surprised about Shaun of the dead... one of my favourite movies... Loved the Cornetto trilogy.
In the deleted scenes, Shaun's ex Liz addresses the whole DJ thing a lot more. It's genuinely funny but it's understandable why it was cut for time and pacing.

As a huge HG Wells fan and lover of The Time Machine, I noticed that scene in Gremlins the first time I saw it. That's the only one I got on the first watch, though.
Some of these are very interesting.
I think some of them that include deleted scenes are a bit weird. They're not "unspoken" as so much as they didn't happen.
The first time I saw A Quiet Place, I didn't realize there was supposed to be subtitles, so I watched without. I know a bit of ASL, so it was refreshing to see. Later I saw the movie with the subtitles and it made more sense. :P
There was a whole subplot cut out of Se7en that develops Somerset more. In the beginning, he looks at a house away from the city that he plans to buy after he retires, and he carries a swatch of wallpaper in his pocket to remind him of what he has to look forward to. In the end, he throws it away and decides to stay, because he's still got work to do.

I was hoping to see Back to the Future mentioned here. An unspoken subplot is that George is left-handed. He was forced to learn to use his right hand by parents and/or teachers, which was actually a thing that happened back then because some people thought left-handedness was evil. In the original 1985 he's still a lefty operating as a righty, that's why he's so awkward. Then Marty interfered in 1955 and caused George to confront Biff. He tried, weakly, to punch Biff with his right hand, which was immediately disabled, forcing him to flatten Biff with a left hook. That's why he looks at his (left) hand the way he does before he asks Lorraine if she's alright. From that moment on he started using his left hand again, and that's a big part of why things got better for him, because he was finally being himself.
Whatever Jules takes about, I'm going to like it. In 10 seconds I'm clicking the LIKE button.
It could starts with, "let me talk to you about tissue paper..." and I will like it.

Was thinking the same thing. A plot line should show up multiple times and evolve during the course of the story. Still very entertaining video though.
A similar subplot in The Searchers is also used in Priest where Lucy is Priest's daughter.
Silent movie climax plot point: Meet Joe Black, Claire Forlani has about 15 seconds with no lines where she realizes the truth; then as it shatters her worldview, she reverts to previous assumptions, proving her father was right and Death was wrong
What was death wrong about? I haven''t seen the movie in a couple years so I don't remember a point of contention between Anthony and Brad about the daughter.
@@QuasiKnobby Death was just going to take her. Then her father challenges him to reveal himself and his intentions. “If you want to be human, tell her the truth” or something close. So Death says she will still love him. Her father says “prove it.” Such a great ending. So much tension.

My favorite is the first timeline in Source Code is an alternate reality, not the original one. This can be found because the bomb on the train was supposed to be detonated when passing the other passenger train but doesn't, and instead blows up near a tanker train. This is shown to us when the bad guy Frost is interacted with in one of the Source Codes and he admits that his timing was interrupted because of the interaction and then detonates the bomb.

Louis being an alcoholic in the Truman show could also just be part of the script of Truman's life. They need excuses for all the actors to have long vacations from the show and also most if not all the characters have some sort of flaw. This helps deceive Truman. Also they want Truman to drink because it'll keep him thinking less, more fearful, and overall less likely to figure it out and escape.
So while I think Louis being a drunk might be because of guilt I think it's much more likely that in such a controlled environment that wouldn't be allowed unless controlled for and on purpose.
Gremlins was always one of my favorite movies growing up and I've never noticed that time machine bit.

If we are going for a purely technical sense, Gremlins doesn’t show time travel exists within its universe, it shows a Time Machine scientist and his machine vanish in an explosion of some kind. For all we know the scientist only blew himself up attempting to time travel.

In Nerve, during the scene where Sid is dared to and attempts walking across a ladder between apartment buildings…it is stated that she has to record herself completing the dare or it doesn’t count, right? Well, toward the beginning of the movie, when Sid moons the school population during a pep rally…someone else recorded her completing the dare and she moved to her next round. 🤷♀️
In MAD MAX 3, one of the prisoners in underworld is a former cop from MAD MAX 1. Max walks past him without recognizing him, But the man spots Max and recognizes him. And now these former cops are the have nots/misfits/criminals in this world. So things have come full circle. The first shall be last and the last shall be first.
In the first one, you'll also notice Steven Spielberg driving by on a weird machine in the foreground.
To be fair, that time travel machine in the Gremlins invention convention could’ve just vaporized the operator so we don’t know if time travel really exists in that universe 🤔
