appreciate it, did the front and rears yesterday. Both ur vids helped a ton. Most time consuming part was taking the top nut off, vise grips did not want to stay put.
good information. I have an 86 with 271,000 and shocks need to come out. You have simple directions that help.
My 1987 rear shocks are a different design. I believe they change to your with the refreshed body.
Thanks so much for your great instructional videos! I replaced both front and rear shocks on my 1995 Corvette. Mileage is only 37K, but the shocks were original and in need of replacement. Huge ride improvement. Smooth and better handling by far! I used the same Bilsteins models referenced in your videos, and hand tools. Time wise, about 2 hours for the rear shocks and about 1.5 for the front. Thanks again!!!!!
That's great Ted, enjoy your Vette. The late C4's are great cars!
@@ozzstars_cars I agree, love mine!!!!! Thanks
Ted Vlahopoulos - I did the same thing on my 95. 46,000 miles but needing replacement. I am very happy with the ride now.
@@sdcoinshooter It's so easy to repair these cars. Gotta love it!!!
This video was a great help. The installation was easy knowing the tips that you provided. The car rides great. Thanks again
You are welcome Bill. Having a great ride makes life smoother....take it easy - Ozz
Another fine video! My 94 has yellow shocks with delco and bilstein labels. Could these be O.E.?
Oz star. Ok, that's what I thought, the B6. I bought a pair on eBay for 95.00 each free shipping and will install them eithe this or next weekend. Thanks for replying
Good stuff. Thanks from a new c4 owner
Have fun with your Corvette.
Thanks for these videos. Changed my shocks today with there help. 👍
Greetings from the Netherlands
That's really great news! Enjoy your car. - Glen
Great. Now I'm looking for the front shock install.
Thanks for watching and commenting. I never produced the front shock video but have had lots of requests for it. I may do that soon.
+Ozzstar That would be great! Thanks!
Thanks’ for a great video. Now I think I can manage to change the shocks on my C4, for the first time.
Your welcome Ladyflower, you can get the job done! Take care -Ozz
I just bought my 92 Corvette a few weeks ago and it also feels incredibly squirrely going over bumps at any serious speed. Thank you for the how to vid!! Also what bilsteins did you put on? I'm going to buy the Z51 shocks for a more tighter feel.
Cody Jorgensen I went with the standard HD Bilstein shocks. The car is used mostly for pleasure driving more than track racing. You also need to check and if necessary replace the sway bar bushings ua-cam.com/video/jhM0BHQ2STU/v-deo.html . if they are cracked and brittle. Enjoy your new ride and glad the video was helpful - Ozz
Thanks for making this video. Beautiful color on that Vette. You're easy on the eyes as well.
Haha thanks!
Bright Aqua Metallic
Man you make it look so easy I think I’m going to try it...thanks
Take your time. It's not a hard job unless heavy rust is involved.
Hey Ozzstar great video, I'll be changing the shocks on my 96 GS soon and this helped a ton, would really like to see a video on the front too, any plans of that coming soon?
I will say that if you had no idea what to do or how. This is an excellent video as literally everything is covered. I appreciate the time it must take to make a video at this level of detail.
I wouldn't have the patience again thanks; for all the rookies/noobs to DIY maintenance.
You got that right Roger, a lot of time and patience, with the details to do it right! You are welcome and thank you for taking time to watch and comment
Tha '84 through '96 don't use the same rear shocks. The shocks on my '87 Corvette has a different mounting on top.
Mine has 'eye's' on both sides.
Just waiting for a dry day (got no garage) to replace the shocks on my '91. Dude, your video is just what I needed - you don't skip even the smallest steps, which is just what first-timers like myself need.
Quick question about front shocks: I read somewhere that you don't even need to jack up the car. Is that true?
Thanx for the great videos!
MogamboJackthe front shocks are easier to replace if you raise the front end up off the ground but not necessary. Thanks for your comment Jack, I've been known to be detail oriented! lol Take it easy - Ozz
Thanx!
Thanks for the informative video. I actually thought it was going to be more involved. Nice job.
Thanks Skip! Take it easy - Ozz
Did replacing the rear shocks solve that wiggly hop thing the rear end does over a bump if driving fast enough through a curve?
All four new shocks made an improvement.
Thanks for the vid, I'll be doing shocks pretty soon.
You can do it! Thanks for the comment- Ozz
Thanks man! Another one well done.
Your welcome hasbeen, thanks for the comment, take it easy.
This video was very helpful as was the one about the sway bar bushings, thanks for posting. I am going to replace my FX3 rear shocks and am wondering if you have replaced the rear shocks on a C4 with FX3? Any video? I'm having a heck of a time finding the upper bushings/grommets for the Bilstein FX3 shocks, for some reason Bilstein doesn't include them in this more expensive shock.
I haven't had to deal with the FX3 shock. From research I can tell you that its a stiffer more firm ride. Are you telling me Bilstein isn't supplying new upper bushings on a $100 fx3 shock???
+Ozzstar That's correct, no bushings and the fx3 shocks are about $239.00 each. I've checked with several online Corvette parts dealers and it's the same with all of them. Some sell the bushings but are out of stock and don't know when they'll have them. I'm beginning to wonder if it might be better just to disable the fx3 system and use regular shocks.
Hi, what are the torque specs for the upper bolts and the one at the bottom??? thanks
You make awesome videos I love 'em
The two upper shock bracket bolts are torqued to22 lb. ft. and the lower mounting nut is 61 lb. ft. Thanks for your comment, appreciate it.
No Ozzstar, thank YOU for the videos!!
Yeah a very good detailed video. How's the ride after the replacement. BTW I've got to rebuild or replace the motor first. Also do the bushings come with the new shocks
The ride is comfortable.
Have you replaced the clutch master cylinder and/or slave cylinder? Need to do this to my C4 soon and would a step by step haha.
I have a clutch master and slave replacement vid but its on a Honda Accord not a Corvette
Hi Ozzstar, thanks for the videos! Just wondering if you can comment on a 1986 C4 front and rear shocks. Mine is a base unit and almost time to replace the shocks (well may as well if replacing bushing etc). Would you suggest Bilstein B8 or B6? I read some suggest B6 for front and B8 for rear and then read a different comment suggesting B6's. Cheers mate
Hi Brett I would suggest you go with the Bilstein B6 if your car is stock and does not have the Z51 suspension package. If your car is lowered and/or has the Z51 suspension performance package then go with the B8. Going with the B8 on a stock base suspension will only give you a harsh ride with very little benefit.
Wow thanks for the reply... yes it is lowered (forgot to mention) and from what I know this would then suggest B6 front and B8 rear. I thought I read somewhere B6 will bottom out due to the car being lowered on the rear. Unfortunately all the old forums dont actually finish off with what people actually put on :) Funny thing is that KYBs have only size so guess this is not really a problem? Cheers mate and awesome work
Thanks a million for the video
Thanks for commenting, glad the vid helped you out - Ozz
Ozzstar..... There are several type of Bilstein shocks that fit my 89 Vette. I do not track race and want a comfortable yet performance type ride. Which model would you recommend for the front and rear? I'd appreciate your input.
The non z51 type will work fine for your application. I believe it was the B6 Bilstein. Let me know how it goes Bill.
Very good video! Thank you
Thank you too!
Thanks for this informative video and hello from Vienna Austria
You are welcome Kurt and hello from America. Take it Easy! - Ozz
Im thinking of doing coilovers on my 1995 but i was looking around and it looks like a tight fit both front and rear...the coil overs are like $2000
Will you be doing any racing or autocross? No? Then save your money would be my advice
yeah I mean I don't wanna go full out gutted, roll cage, huge wing with it.. but as something I can take to the track and car shows...maybe 450whp...I don't plan on daily driving so some nicer seats would be good too
Thanks Ozz
Your welcome Kenny. Thanks for watching and commenting
good job thank you for sharing
Your welcome Mohammed, thanks for the comment
nice work
did you ever do one on the front shocks ?
No sorry Wayne I did not get a chance to film the front shock replacement. Thanks for commenting
Are the B8 Bilsteins for the Z51 suspension
Look in the description above. B6 is non Z51.
I can do this! please show from install
Where's the jack stand???
5:04, Chaos is leaning on it. 😉
