The Battery Management System takes a number of inputs, including voltage, temperatures, and current among other inputs. The BMS then runs algorithms to create a series of outputs including state of charge (the fuel gauge), the state of health, the safe operating envelope ™, and any faults the battery pack may have.
Erik then describes how the BMS is used in a multi-cell application, using a system diagram.

Thank you. One question please, when the BMS terminates charge or discharge states, in a cell, do the other cells, combined, continue functioning at a lower capacity? Or does the system just shut down as a result of that 1 bad cell? I'm sorta new at this. Thanks again.

Hi Erik, when the battery pack is not on a load (not connecting to any appliance or device) or even charging, will the BMS be still working automatically to balance the cells ? the cells will discharge themselves over time, not sure if the BMS still detect the pack and start balancing according to the cell parameter. Thanks !

this was a well presented explanation and i greatly appreciate it. i do have a question. can the leads of the BMS be connected to the plus or minus on the batteries. the info i have it should be the plus side. however overkill BMS is using some plus and some minus connection. do u have some inside?

Question. I have a 4s 12p pack with a BMS. Here is my question. If I connect the leads to each row (4) they monater each row but what each call on each row. There no way they are checked,Right. Thank you

I'm very new to ebikes. If you have 10 seconds I have a quick question sir; if someone was running 2 hub motors and their combined max current from the controllers was 60 amps, and you used a battery with 50amp BMS (52v 20ah), what would happen? If you ran WOT you may trip the BMS of the battery and it come back on after a few seconds? Or something worse? Thank you!

In this battery pack I tested on aging machine it is goes upper voltage 39 volt to sharp 54 volt when I charging my battery pack having nominal voltage is 36v/10ah what is the reasion behind it
My 17s battery pack is not charging above 69v
I have series 13s and 4s bms
There is a bit of unbalance in the cells about ± 0.05 volts
Also the bms cuts the power at only at 61 volts about 3.56 per cell

Good explanation. How does one bypass a BMS and charge a low cell via current controlled power supply at say 20% of the Ah rating rated current.
