  • We’ve all heard stories about this happening. This happens to be my third encounter with the police, but this one was exceptionally bad. It went all the way to the station and cost me over $300.
NOTE: If you watch the whole video, you will see that I have learned my lesson and am not going to pursue anything. I’ll be smarter 👌🏽 I was just a little upset the morning because I had to go get my phone, and I thought it would a good opportunity to make some contenido. Happens to be one of my best performing videos and I get paid from UA-cam, so I appreciate the comments telling me to delete it because you’re helping with my engagement, but there’s nothing wrong with this video in my eyes so please continue watching my videos and commenting whether it’s positive or negative, doesn’t matter to me. 🙏🏽
Police corruption in Zona Norte, Tijuana, is a well-documented issue that has plagued the area for many years. Zona Norte, known for its nightlife and red-light district, has historically been a hotspot for various criminal activities, including drug trafficking, prostitution, and human trafficking. This environment has created opportunities for corruption among law enforcement officers.
Key Points about Police Corruption in Zona Norte, Tijuana:
    1. **Bribery and Extortion**: Many reports indicate that police officers in Zona Norte often engage in bribery and extortion. They may demand money from locals, tourists, and business owners in exchange for protection or to avoid arrest.
    2. **Collusion with Criminals**: There have been numerous allegations of police officers colluding with drug cartels and other criminal organizations. This includes providing information, protecting illegal activities, and participating in criminal enterprises.
    3. **Human Rights Violations**: Corrupt police practices have led to significant human rights abuses. This includes illegal detentions, physical abuse, and coercion, often targeting vulnerable populations such as sex workers and migrants.
    4. **Lack of Accountability**: One of the major challenges in addressing police corruption is the lack of accountability and oversight. Internal affairs investigations are often ineffective, and corrupt officers rarely face serious consequences.
    5. **Government Efforts and Challenges**: While there have been efforts by the Mexican government and local authorities to combat police corruption, these initiatives have met with limited success. Corruption is deeply ingrained, and systemic changes are difficult to implement.
    6. **Impact on Community Trust**: The pervasive corruption has significantly eroded trust between the community and law enforcement. Residents are often reluctant to report crimes or cooperate with the police, fearing retaliation or lack of action.
    Recent Developments:
In recent years, there have been some efforts to reform the police force and improve transparency. This includes better training, higher salaries, and stricter vetting processes for new recruits. However, progress has been slow, and corruption remains a significant challenge in Zona Norte.
Addressing police corruption in Tijuana requires a multi-faceted approach, including legal reforms, improved oversight mechanisms, and community engagement to rebuild trust and ensure that law enforcement serves and protects all citizens fairly and effectively.

Man if I were you I would delete this video. You gotta keep more low profile man. This isn’t the US. You will be safe if you keep a low humble profile. Saying 50k in pesos isn’t much is just begging for someone to one day recognize and jack you. And trust me, with videos like this only puts you more at risk. TJ & Mex is safe, when you don’t draw attention and make it look like you have as little money as possible.

As someone who has been placed in the backseat of a TJ police cruiser maybe a dozen times in the past 20 years, I find it hard to believe that the cops didn't settle the matter on the street. Or inside the squad car. If your hidden bottle of alcohol was open, then you were technically in violation of the law. But it was hardly the crime of the century, and the street cops are usually very happy to settle something like that with a $50 payoff. Wonder what really happened to make them want to arrest you and miss out on a nice little bribe?

@@ZorroYT27 in all my cases, the policia brings up the subject of "paying your fine right here. Cheaper than at the station." I don't have to say anything. He offered my dad a 1 on 1 with the cop but we chose to assign him to San Felipe for a year. We got a picture of him a few months after in San Felipe sweating his balls off doing traffic control. @@TheVIVIT Good question. A cop here gets paid around $260 per week, plus job benefits, which in my opinion is a pretty low salary for risking your life. Unlike the US where it is mandatory to record the arrest, in Mexico it is not mandatory. With the police being underfunded and not monitored, cops abuse power or get corrupted to make some extra money.
There are some good cops who do their jobs out of vocation, but not all are good cops, I can tell you that. Some cops are involved in illegal activities.
You won’t see a normal local Tijuanese walking around at 5 a.m. in Zona Norte drunk, I can tell you that. When you go to Rome, do as the Romans do.
The only place where you can do that is in Rosarito during spring break, which is a city next to Tijuana, but only during the spring break.
I think the new administration that just took office will improve the security.
The system here is different. I wish cops were monitored same as in the US for legal protection.

From my experiences: Don't wear jewelry or anything flashy. It attracts attention. Also, don't ever bring out your wallet in public or in the open. I made a mistake asking my friend for a few bucks before leaving Z.N. the other night to pay for parking. From a cops perspective, it looked like we were drug dealing. I had a weed pen and got arrested. Luckily nothing happened, but I'll tell you one thing, it was a horrible experience. Try to blend in with the crowd, never look at cops, and truly stay to yourself. It's been really hot over there and Americans are always a hot target for money.

I didn't see the entire encounter, so I can only speculate, based on the footage you posted. I think the bikers revving their engines brought the attention of the policia and when they saw you standing there, dancing and looking a little inebriated, they knew you were an easy target and pounced. Funny thing, I would have expected them to charge you with public intoxication vs having an open container. Doesn't make a lot of sense. I think you made the right choice by paying the fine in order to get the hell out of a TJ jail. Who knows how the situation would have played out if you challenged the charge and refused to pay, even with an attorney assisting you. After dozens of trips to TJ over the years, I've learned it's safe to walk in the zona for the most part, just look like you are walking with a sense of purpose. Don't linger around and don't strike up conversations with strangers. I don't even stop at the taco carts.

Bro throwing the bogus story time. Video evidence would've been great. Just lost 7 mins on this. 😂

That's 100% your fault dude, you did a lot of things wrong. The area, the time, the amount of cash, bottle of liquor in your pocket, being drunk in the street. There are so many good spots in TJ and you decide to go to there. You'd be safer trying to pickup a girl in a local club.
Glad you had a great luck on that encounter, because I would assumed all that money would have been gone. 50k pesos is the monthly salary of someone who's middle-upper class FYI.

He’s acting like this hasn’t been happening since forever, before 1980s. 😂
If you’re from SD and partied in TJ when you were young, either you or a friend has been arrested in TJ and taken to the “jail” to see the “judge” at el 20 de Noviembre. Then the “judge” is their homie, so you realize you should have just paid them since the beginning of the interaction.
This guy is dumb. Call your “abogado” so he can laugh at you. 😂

Keep that PB energy back on the other side homie. No drinking or having an open container in public. The north zone don’t take bribes. They charge more instead of getting paid out at the scene.
The text book story shake downs is in Rosarito. The north zone is the roughest and no bribes.
