When pubs start charging over a £ fiver a pint , then its a no- brainer to stay home ,, Great vid stephen,, merry Christmas,, steve.
Definitely, it’s about £3.50 for 4 beers in Aldi , wine £5 a bottle etc the price of a beer now outweighs going out

This just goes to show how hard the cost of living crisis is hitting the night time economy. People on 30k a year plus are skint at the end of the month.
And it's not even particularly cold this winter. Imagine if the temperature dropped and people had to crank up the central heating.
Just like the 1970's with huge inflation. People started to have people round at home and stopped going out. This really shows how hard we've been hit. Great video Steven. Happy Christmas!

It's been the same in my home town. The pubs the few that are open were not busy. One pub has just closed the owner was interviewed by the local paper he said the running costs are too high and didn't think it was worth staying open over Christmas. I used to work in the pub trade Christmas takings should be highest of the year along with New Year trade if a pub can't make money over Christmas it never going to make money. Just shows how bad the economy is.

My Dad worked at the Wintergardens many of year ago. And my friend's dad who recently passed away was the longest serving member of staff of the Wintergardens. Blackpool gazette did a feature on him, lovely man he was.
I don’t think people have got the financial ability to go out and enjoy themselves now other things have to take priority after paying for food fuel bills rent or mortgage you have not got much spare cash left hopefully this will get better next year

Nobody can afford to go out, simple as. Folk are starting to realise you can have a much better time at home for a fifth of the cost. Not good for the local economy, but wtf do you do if you're counting every bloody penny you spend?

It’s called “mad Friday” where I live ... they’ll be saving themselves for tomorrow night have a great Christmas 🎉
We live in Hull and my daughter is Police Officer and was on duty in the city centre last night and she said it was quieter than usual.
I think I've seen Hull on those police shows where they sort out drunk people in town. They know how to party in Yorkshire.

Mad friday is when the factories broke up for xmas, we all went out straight from work about mid day and stayed out on the beer, there was always one in a fight .
I've done a few in my time. That was mainly in the 90's.
Some drink st home then go out later - in my day we used to go out at 7 in the evening and get in 2 - 5 am , hardly anyone drank at home
Why would I spend £7 for a pint when I can go to Tesco and buy ten cans for eleven quid 😊

Inflation is real in the UK but this is massive exaggeration mate. I live in Kent, SE England, one of the most expensive regions of the country, and I can get a pint in Spoons for £3.50. £3 sometimes if it's real ale... I work in London 2/3 days a week and even in many of the zone 1 most expensive pubs the pints are not £7. £6.50 perhaps at a push.
I have a friend in Sheffield, visited him last week and we hit the town... pints in the city centre for £5 and less.

No matter what else you think, the lit up tower is fabulous and Blackpool does have a nice sandy beach. Much better than the pebbles you get on the south east coast.

We call it mad Friday. A friend of mine went over to Blackie last Saturday night and he did remark how quiet it was , the only place that was busy was the really interesting Galleon bar.

I must say, it's so sad to see so many homeless people there, especially at this time of year with this lousy weather.
It's 20:30 Saturday evening in Basildon, Essex and blowing a gale.
You think your council are bad there, ours are worse here and to boot so are our police.
Our Police station closes at 17:00 every day, and you are lucky if you see a police person after that, you may get the odd one or two propping up the burger bar, but that's about it…!

We have our police station outside the main town area like Blackpool. Sometimes there are not enough cars out at night. I know somebody local was stabbed and the ambulance crew were not allowed in until police were present which was a while later as there weren't any free ones.
The burger proppers are usually what I term the plastic police. All ego yet can't arrest people.
Was absolutly banging in cardiff Friday queues to get in every pub and nightclub no shortage of money down here stephen merry xmas

Not Black Eyed Friday as such but usually the last working day before Christmas When all the Office workers and shop workers go out on the town when work finishes, and by 20:00 it is rioutous with drunks and parties, the Emercency services are run ragged ambulances to hospit, Police to fights and drunks etc

Everyone is skint.. plus at £5 on average a pint it’s cheaper to get some cans in and stay at home in the warm. Plus the ice cold very strong winds we’ve been having in Blackpool doesn’t help m.

I remember visiting Yates s years and years ago, when I visited Blackpool. So brought back memories. Perhaps people are saving their money for a night out on New Years eve. I am looking forward to Xmas eve and Xmas day, as I will be seeing family, but that is it for 2023. Just looking forward to 2024 then and hoping it is a better year !

It’s not just Blackpool it’s all over. At £5-6 a pint when you can buy a crate for £10-15 no brainer everyone’s skint.
We not social anymore too busy glued to our screens and been screwed over by each other in the dog eat dog world we now live in.
We call it Mad Friday in Warrington, when everyone breaks up from work xx

Even in better conditions (weather and financial) I've never known mad Friday to be particularly busy in Blackpool. I think most businesses in the area go to Poulton, St Annes or other places.

Belfast City centre was rammed on Black Eye Friday, some bars up to £7 for a pint as well!, particularly the Cathedral Quarter, I'm on a comfortable wage and even I couldn't afford to go out to the pub much, used to be out every week for football etc, but the prices are ludicrous, most of the pubs in the small town I live in only open Wednesday - Sunday now, and are heavily focused on food, so pubs are more or less restaurants where you can drink as it were.

Live on a seaside resort in sussex was empty. Its all down to low money and weather..
Same in Richmond north Yorkshire, the quietest xmas i can remember as a taxi driver, taxi fares to high , beer too much , quietest xmas day in 18 years for me , nobody ever used to complain about the cost and always got big tips , not this year though

black eye friday in teesside was last friday before xmas and the contractors ,ship yards factorys etc shut down midday and all the workers went out on the lash straight from work ,r got drunk etc n started fighting .hence the term black eye friday lol
As most have said. It's a direct consequence of extremely squeezed finances and terrible weather. Add to that the often intimidating environment town and city centres have become and the extortionate cost of a night out drinking with all the aforementioned in mind.
Everyone must be skint lol.. wonder if Stephen had a few bevvies lol
