    I know this isn't the topic of your video, but when you said you had 5 kids, 2 married, I had to say, I about fell over! You look very young!! I though you might be 30 at most! I guess gardening helps keep you that way? I should have started gardening earlier! 🙃 (66 and looking every bit if it!)

    We just bought your special soil mix from Arizona Worm Farm. The soil is amazing! We bought a bag of worms and put them in our beds using your worm composting video. With your help our family will be ready for the food shortages coming next year. We love your videos!

    Based on your success with the garden grids, I ordered one - and loved it! So, I ordered another one…and yesterday, I ordered 2 more. I’m in zone 8a, Fort Worth and it’s starting to heat up.

    I just had Mannies Sprinkler System hook up my 8 Garden beds to the Garden in Minutes grids. I love it, no more tripping over hoses and the water pressure is much better than using hoses.

    I appreciate your detailed description of your setup. As a beginner gardener with varying success, and as a mom of a toddler and infant, a few bottles with holes in the bottom only take a few minutes to water as needed, and are cheap. Someday, I'll be successful enough to need a drip system.

    I have similar setup with similar pressure settings ….how do I know how long should I run on trees be shrubs (for ex: how long to run for the ground to get wet till 3 feet or 2 feet etc)

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden  Рік тому +1

      It's a little bit of trial and error - do an 30 min or an hour at a time and use a soil probe. You only have to do that once and then you'll know.

    How many grids would be suitable for a single run line from the hose manifold? I have a total of (10) 3'.5" x 6'.5" beds.

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden  Рік тому +2

      3-4 is maximum for me. 3 seems to be the best number on one hose if you have good pressure.

      Great question! The amount of Garden Grids that you can run simultaneously will vary based on your water supply's pressure and flow rate and how much you open up the water streams of the Garden Grid. Like Angela showed with her valves, you can run the Garden Grid at a light drip or a full stream based on your preference. If you run them at a slower stream or drip, you can run more at once, if you run them at a fuller stream then you will be able to run less simultaneously.
      With common household water pressure of ~35PSI and unrestricted water flow from a standard size garden hose, you can comfortably run about 5-6 4x4 Garden Grids at a moderate strength water stream (water streams spraying ~3-4"). Angela has our largest size Garden Grid™, the 4x8. So her running 3-4 4x8s means she probably has just above common PSI and flow rate but pretty close to standard. ,
      With more pressure and volume, the number you can run simultaneously of course increases. We personally run 12 4x4 Garden Grids (equivalent of 6 4x8s) in one of our own gardens on a 65 PSI supply through our standard size garden hoses.
      You can endlessly interconnect Garden Grid Grids with our multi-Garden Grid connection manifolds and custom length garden hoses. If you do find that you can't run them all simultaneously, the manifolds fortunately allow you to control each Garden Grid independently from the rest. So, you can turn some on and some off and balance water output as needed. Here's a quick video on output (gardeninminutes.com/water-output-from-the-garden-grid/) from the Garden Grid based on size and how you interconnect Garden Grids with hoses and manifolds (gardeninminutes.com/topic/multi-garden-grid-manifolds/)
      You can find the manifold here: gardeninminutes.com/shop/garden-grid-watering-systems/garden-grid-connection-manifold/
      and short hoses here: gardeninminutes.com/shop/garden-accessories/short-garden-hose-by-the-foot/
      Hope that helps! Happy to help with any questions!
      Happy Gardening,
      Bryan @ Garden In Minutes

    Love your garden and what you are doing. Thanks for your continued education on gardening here in the desert. Just curious to how much did your irrigation cost you to install. Rough estimate would help to prepare mine. Thank you.

    Great video. How do you figure out how long to run your irrigation system?

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden  Рік тому +1

      I ran it and checked how deeply the water was penetrating in the beds and ground - and then made adjustments based on that.

    Your awesome! Ty for this. I’m trying to set up grow bags n only 3 small raised beds in my small back yard and was at a cross roads to use irrigation or wicking n what to use etc. this helped a lot! Question: do u use a carbon filter too w your water or just the inline sediment screens as shown?

    Ony garden grids I found I had to use pinch clamps, I had the odd one blow apart during the hottest days, we leave the place at times for a week to go seek some cooler weather, I took have the Rachio, my next gadget will be a couple of moisture probes that I can monitor remotely.
    You are so correct on over/under watering, and then the monsoons add to it, thus the monitors.
    Have you found a solution to the corcubit squash bugs issues, I'm thinking crop rotation, I got away about 4 years now it's not doable, useing mulches heavily they seem to overwinter and hit hard as soon as the zucchini are blooming. Thanks

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden  Рік тому

      I have a very low tolerance for squash bugs and often remove plants as soon as I see them rather than letting them become established in my garden. Crop rotation definitely helps.

      I had my oldest ones clog this year. I used a push pin to re-do the holes. Worked great.

    We’ve had all our 1/2” tubing switched to PVC and continued to use 1/4” spaghetti tubing connected off multi port heads throughout my yards and garden beds. I would like to use a square foot irrigation grid in my (2) 8’x2’ horse trough vegetable beds but don’t think I can convert them. I’ve thought about creating a grid system with 1/4” tubing but not sure how well they’d irrigate each square. Soaker type perforated 1/4” or 6” interval tubing might work but easily clog after a couple of seasons with hard water build up after a few seasons. Any ideas? Thx
