The debut release from this deliberate and almost progressive techno duo. What this album lacks in fancy state of the art sounds/effects, it makes up for with evocative and adventurous song-structures, some impressively heavy bass sounds, and a generally dark, techno-fatalist atmosphere which grows in intensity and originality as the album progresses. At times reminiscent of 80s sci-fi soundtracks (owing to certain snare choices, perhaps), and at other moments resembling the more straight-ahead cuts from Risotto-era Fluke or similar late 90s artists, this is a surprisingly well-rounded, cohesive, and refreshing release for a duo who seem like relative neophytes in the modern electronic realm. Side B is my recommended listen - if you’re short on time, make sure to hear tracks four and five, but the whole thing is worth a spin.
