They should go for an older year like 1975 (Cuckoo’s Nest, Jaws, Dog Day Afternoon, Barry Lyndon and Nashville!). Another fun thing about going far back is that the BAFTA’s used to be insane in their choices.
This was filmed before Malcolm & Marie's trailer and social reactions, fyi. We'll do a vid about the remaining contenders soon. Social reactions expected for all of them soon.
Billie Holiday reactions are out and it looks like it will get NO nominations. Andra Day could still get in but I recommend having Zendaya on your top 5 and if you have her on your 5, take out Gary Oldman and put John David Washington on your 5.
It's really the best acting because it is more close to being than acting. It is so natural you don't think about her performance during the film. The academy should award that kind of performance more often. Unlike showy acting class performances eg Viola Davis in Ma Rainey.
Steven Yeun is so supporting. The grandma had more screentime. He has one scene in the beginning with the tornado. He has the farming scenes with the American guy. I feel like any guy coudnt played his role.

@@martinpalmers9061 nah he’s a co-lead with Han and Kim. The whole film’s emotional crux lies on Jacob’s dogged pursuit of the American dream. Youn Yuh-jung is phenomenal though no doubt and it’s absolutely crazy we still have to wonder if she’s getting in or not. She’s a lock.

As much as I like Chadwick Boseman, I really want to see Riz Ahmed win best actor. Sound of Metal was freaking amazing. Paul Raci was also so memorable in that movie. Sydney Flanigan from Never Rarely Sometimes Always also deserves some recognition.
I completely agree with you guys on Raci, he needs to win... even though we haven't seen Kaluuya and I love him, but Raci was so utterly fantastic and it was so good to see him sweep
Predictions: Zhao (winner), Fincher, Zeller, Fennell, and Chung will get noms for director Sorkin will be the big snub, Zeller will get in off of just a BAFTA (and possible CC) nomination Fennell will pull a Jordan Peele, getting in off of DGA and Critics Choice noms, possibly also GG Spike Lee might get a GG nom Malcolm & Marie will be this year’s Blue Valentine, where I can see JDW and Zendaya getting GG and CC noms, but Zendaya’s the one to get the Oscar nom Tenet will be this year’s First Man, getting only Sound, VFX, and possibly Cinematography instead of Production Design (but deserves a lot more). HOPEFULLY gets in for Score at the very least Ma Rainey will get an editing nom Mank will win Sound and get in for VFX Nomadland wins Cinematography Fennell wins Original Screenplay Zhao will win Editing and Adapted Screenplay in addition to Director/Picture
@@volcancism.a.d6010 Ah thanks. I forgot about Ida. Yeah the DP branch is very international film friendly like with The White Ribbon and Never Look Away.
Elizabeth Moss deserves so much more than she’s getting. Her performance in The Invisible Man is unmatched. This will be another year where horror will be slept on.
Here's why I think Nomadland will win Picture, I have it winning Director and Screenplay, last film to win both and not win picture? Brokeback Mountain in 06
This is a good point and I really hope it happens. Honestly this might be a hot take but I think they should’ve nominated Sacha Baron Cohen for the first Borat
Minari may become a huge thing - potential Original Screenplay and Supporting Actress wins are a great combo for BP. As well as Cast Ensemble nomination at SAGs. Chicago 7 will have to overcome Netflix biases and still has no strong position neither in screenplay or directing.
I don’t know if Nomad land will win best picture, because it is very hard to follow and Complex. I think it is so difficult for the average person to understand and relate to the plot. The First half of the film I really enjoyed watching and there’s some really great shots that look very good. The last half of the film just got kind of slow, but the way it was filmed and how it looked was still so original. There isn’t enough of a story in this film for me to feel engaged, I think a best picture nominee needs a good story.
@@jackroche5235 It's cool, It wasn't a big hope or anything (that goes to Sound of Metal) It was just a pattern I was picking up and personally would replace Hillbilly Elegy's spot with IMO
Unfortunately A24 is already struggling enough with its main contender Minari with campaigning, so I imagine they haven't done much for First Cow either...shame such a great distributor in terms of films they pick has such awful campaign strategy.
What about "First cow" or "I'm thinking of ending things"?, both deserve important mentions for their good acceptance in the critical awards. It's nice to see that "I'm no longer here" from my Mexico 🇲🇽 is among the favorites. Thanks guys!! ☺️😉
One Oscar miracle I hope happens is Mads Mikkelsen getting nom for best actor (like Banderas last year). I know I'm probably dreaming, but he deserves it so much...
In terms of best picture there's a pretty clear idea of the nominees, but the actor races seem like they can be shaken up due to a couple of movies being released before the deadline. Like Zendaya creeping in all of the sudden.
@@ZR38315 Parasite is absolutely unclassifiable. But Drama, Comedy, Thriller are the common genres people associate it with. But my biggest point is that it's not a traditional AMPAS movie. Judas is very timely and if it's as good as some of those early reactions suggest I really think it can do it.
Thank you for improving my Sunday! I feel as if they nominate Chadwick Boseman in the Supporting category they are not going to give him any Oscar; the double acting nomination WILL BE the honor... which is tragic as he deserves to win Best Actor. As a nominee in the Supporting category he is weak. As a nominee in the Leading category he is hella strong. Daniel Kaluya might have stolen the Oscar away from Diane Warren. Let's see if anyone understands what I'm implying here. 👀
imo Youn Yuh-jung should win for best suporting actress. her role is by far the most complex and difficult out of everyone and she knocked it out of the park. of course, most of the time my personal feelings don't align with the Academy but its what I would do if the Oscars were purely based on the work, not combining that with campaging and popularity contests
I've seen Malcolm and Marie and let me tell you, it's incredible. Not gonna give much away, but John David Washington and Zendaya are phenomenal. I think Best Actor may be too crowded for JDW, but I'm almost ready to put Zendaya in my top 5, just waiting on Billie Holiday reactions. I think it could potentially get a Screenplay nom. I don't know about cinematography because I don't think it'd be in the conversation if it weren't in black and white, but it looks beautiful. I wonder if it can get into Best Picture and I wonder if Zendaya could pick up some winning hype. I'm gonna hedge my bets on probably not on that, but I have considered it. I think if some of these movies start slipping like Da 5 Bloods or One Night in Miami, it could slide right into Best Picture and Screenplay even. Oh, and I've seen Cherry. It's extremely messy and convoluted and will not be nominated for a single thing.
The cinematographer's branch of the Academy LOVE black and white. Movies that don't even look that good like The Artist and Nebraska got in and it's a weak year in that category.
@@oskari7121 very good point about Nebraska. I still feel like this wouldn’t be talked about if not for the black and white, tho. It’s also pretty contained, but I think that goes without saying. I mean, Euphoria has beautiful cinematography and got an Emmy nom I think so maybe some folks in the Academy will pay attention to that.
@@oskari7121 Whether you thought The Artist's cinematography was visually appraling or not (I thought it looked good), it was necessary for the story. They very accurately reflected what a silent movie looked like and I thought it was a deserving nomination.

Whatever the editing and writing noms are will predict what will win best picture. The best picture winner has only not been nominated for editing once in the last 40 years: “Birdman.” Given this fact, I predict it will be a battle between “Trial of the Chicago 7” and “Nomadland” for Best Picture.
I really Carey Mulligan wins the Best Actress Oscar. She was amzing in Wildlife, Never Let Me go , Shame and Suffragette. There might be a couple of surprises coming because of the Feb 28 deadline.
I honestly agree with you. He's on life support, I can get him just inching it out, but also being snubbed. My only worry for Yuen is how the Oscars completely snub asian actors all the time.
Greyhound has a great shot at a Sound nomination. Keep in mind that veteran mixer Michael Minkler is involved. Also, films set on the high seas always seem to show up in the sound category.
I haven’t seen Nomanland but Vanessa Kirby in Pieces of a Woman is hands down one of the best performances that I’ve seen in a few months. She was amazing. I bet McDormand is fantastic too, but I’m hoping it’s Kirby for it

Sorry if you will feel offended, but if Aaron Sorkin won't get nominated for direction he won't be snubbed. I didn't like Chicago 7, you probably did and that's okay. But, obectively speaking, the direction is not good. Now that I got tha out of system I can be calm. Well, I really hope Another Round will go over International Film. I am reading that it is well appreciated in the biz. Pedro Almodovar labeled it as his fave film of the year, so we know one vote for direction and picture nods.
If it was up too me, Sidney Flanigan would definitely be nominated. I feel that her performance and Talia Ryders performance in Never Rarely Sometimes Always are definitely the most underlooked this year.
In reference to what you said about Ammonite that it's no where so-- Well FYI Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan are nominated in their respective categorise for North Dakota Film Society ( NDFS) along with Best Score.
Honestly think u guys should change your opinion about Wolfwalkers, since that’s actually better reviewed by audiences and critics when compared to Soul.

Controversial take: What are the chances that Riz Ahmed becomes an Ethan Hawke in First Reformed? Wins all the critics and indie awards and just gets completely shut out at the major awards? I obviously do not want that to happen because I love Riz and very excited that he is getting the attention he deserves. BUT it did happen to an amazing performance from Hawke. A slight difference is that Riz's campaign seems much stronger but I can't remember Hawke's. How much would the Golden Globes affect the Best Picture Race? Do you think the Oscars will continue the trend of nominating the winner of the Comedy/Musical Golden Globe for picture?
I don't know, you have a good point. The Prom is REALLY being predicted for the comedy/musical award at the globes and people think it is going to be nominated for best ensemble at the SAGs. It might be, I don't know
I think for being both crazy accurate and candy coloured fun Emma does deserve costume, and I wish Johnny Flynn had gotten original song for that movie.
I think Sonic could make it’s case for visual effects. With the fact that they went back and re did the visual effects to please audiences. Idk to me that’d be a good case. I don’t think it’ll get nominated but there’s that
I think that Demon Slayer could be a shock nomination upset. With the fact that it recently surpassed Spirited Away for highest grossing film in Japan, I feel it is definitely a contender for a nomination.
Aniplex is probably not seriously considering an Oscar nomination. As much as I like Demon Slayer, only Japan would take the movie seriously as an awards contender; expect a nomination at the Japan Academy.
I hope Sophia Loren gets the nomination, although "The Life Ahead" moment has passed apparently. I'm probably the only one still obsessed about it. But the one I am really rooting for is Frances Mcdormand. That was not a conventional storytelling and she played so so well. Viola is incredible too, but over the top sometimes, idk... and it was chadwick's film honestly. I still have to watch so many of those films, but I doubt any other role will be better than frances's in nomadland. anyway
Swap Earwig and The Witch and The Croods: A New Age around and that's a realistic animated line-up. After all, Oscars want to have a Studio Ghibli movie in their nomination.
So I saw Chicago seven, I thought it was average. Protestors and police are relevant for the times though. I haven't seen nomadland yet. But if u guys think that the rest of them don't have a shot then I just need to see nomadland

Serious question: Everyone I know loves Soul. Could this be the first time an animated film wins best picture? Is there a reason this isn’t talked about more? Let me be clear, I didn’t love the movie and I am in no way suggesting it’s better than toy story 3. But Hollywood likes change and higher ratings. This could be their chance. I don’t know. What do you guys think?
Beauty and the Beast one Best Picture. Sometime after that the Academy separated animated films into their own category. Which brings my next question... why is everyone predicting Soul for Best Picture? Did they go away with the Best Animated category?
@@eyesoneverything9142 Beauty and the Beast did not win. It was nominated. It lost to Silence of the Lambs. And they did create a separate category for animated features as well as shorts but they still allow animated films to be nominated for overall picture as well. The animated category still exists.
I don't see it happening. It would signal that all not-animated films were not good enough for the top prize. Even at the big festivals, Spirited Away is the only animated film that I can think of that won best film (tied with Bloody Sunday) but festivals last 2 weeks and have a small jury. I think it can happen one day at the Oscars but not this season.
@@pb.j.1753 that’s valid but one thing I’ve observed is that the Academy uses words like “best” even though they know there is no such thing in art. I believe they don’t necessarily choose the actual “best” because that would be impossible. They choose a “winner” based on honoring that film or recognizing its achievement. Leo didn’t necessarily win because he was the “best” that year. He won because they were finally honoring a career of great work. Sometimes the one chosen happens to line up with actually being the “best”. So in this case I think the academy could recognize all of Pixar’s work and “Soul” could be the face of that recognition. Now I’m inclined to think it won’t happen this year either but I also don’t think there’s any reason why it shouldn’t.
Not to be dramatic but if Steven Yeun and/or Minari misses out, I will kill myself

Spike Lee might get a GG nom
Malcolm & Marie will be this year’s Blue Valentine, where I can see JDW and Zendaya getting GG and CC noms, but Zendaya’s the one to get the Oscar nom
Tenet will be this year’s First Man, getting only Sound, VFX, and possibly Cinematography instead of Production Design (but deserves a lot more). HOPEFULLY gets in for Score at the very least
Ma Rainey will get an editing nom
Mank will win Sound and get in for VFX
Nomadland wins Cinematography
Fennell wins Original Screenplay
Zhao will win Editing and Adapted Screenplay in addition to Director/Picture
I think Trial of Chicago 7 might win best editing.
I could see I'm thinking of ending things getting in cinematography actually, the academy and the dp branch love Łukasz Żal after all
They nominated him one time before so they love him?
@@pb.j.1753 He was nominated for Ida and Cold War, both black and white foreign films, so I think it’s safe to say they love him.
@@pb.j.1753 yes because they nominated him for an obscure movie. So they kina went out of their way to nominate someone.
It better! Still the best cinematography of the year!
Amanda Seyfried was fabulous in MANK.
Here's why I think Nomadland will win Picture, I have it winning Director and Screenplay, last film to win both and not win picture? Brokeback Mountain in 06
Nomadland cleaned up at National Society of Film Critics this weekend: BP, director, cinematography and actress in a leading role.
Sophia will get a nod- Hollywood LOVES nominating come backs and legends.
I can't see why Maria Bakalova can't get nominated. RDJ in Tropic Thunder, Melissa McCartney in Bridesmaids. It's kinda happened before.
I am hoping for either Nomadland or Soul to win. I really loved Nomadland lol
What about Relic for sound? I know it’s a total long shot, but that movie had SUCH good sound.
Ellen Burstyn is an amazing actress and I'm so glad she's back in a such a powerful role. Hope she wins this season.
As always the best predictions on YT
I'm skeptical but I think First Cow could get nominated for Best Picture given some strong early awards choices for it already
Not a hope of that happening I'm sorry
@@jackroche5235 It's cool, It wasn't a big hope or anything (that goes to Sound of Metal)
It was just a pattern I was picking up and personally would replace Hillbilly Elegy's spot with IMO
Maybe ITOET could get visual effects.
The whole integrating animation with live action thing was impressive
first cow is too indie and itoet its too weird. they do deserve nominations, but the chances are very low
I’m Thinking of Ending Things doesn’t deserve any awards love. MAYBE cinematography, production design, or costume design at most
One Oscar miracle I hope happens is Mads Mikkelsen getting nom for best actor (like Banderas last year). I know I'm probably dreaming, but he deserves it so much...
he absolutely deserves..
I feel the same way, I FELT him that whole movie. Outstanding. We need to be talking more about him!
In terms of best picture there's a pretty clear idea of the nominees, but the actor races seem like they can be shaken up due to a couple of movies being released before the deadline. Like Zendaya creeping in all of the sudden.
I think The Invisible Man will get a nom for Visual Effects
Honestly...I think Judas and the Black Messiah could be the dark horse contender which ends up winning the whole thing!
I feel like thrillers don’t usually win but I could be wrong
@@ZR38315 The Departed though. And Parasite to the extent
@@oskari7121 departed definitely. I don’t know if thriller is necessarily the first thing I’d classify Parasite as but I see your point
These videos are always fun to watch
Thank you for improving my Sunday!
I feel as if they nominate Chadwick Boseman in the Supporting category they are not going to give him any Oscar; the double acting nomination WILL BE the honor... which is tragic as he deserves to win Best Actor. As a nominee in the Supporting category he is weak. As a nominee in the Leading category he is hella strong.
Daniel Kaluya might have stolen the Oscar away from Diane Warren. Let's see if anyone understands what I'm implying here. 👀
Judas and the Black Messiah has an original song?
Not giving up hope for Jessie Buckley’s Oscar nomination for I’m Thinking of Ending Things
imo Youn Yuh-jung should win for best suporting actress. her role is by far the most complex and difficult out of everyone and she knocked it out of the park. of course, most of the time my personal feelings don't align with the Academy but its what I would do if the Oscars were purely based on the work, not combining that with campaging and popularity contests
Frances for best actress ? I prefer Vanessa or Carey
I can see Thomas Newman getting a nom for The Little Things.
And I'm so hyped for the movie. Loves the trailer and Sam Levinson/Zendaya combo has been incredible so far. Adored theatest Euphoria episode.
Such a shame. At least Tom has Spider Man and voice over roles
@@oskari7121 Whether you thought The Artist's cinematography was visually appraling or not (I thought it looked good), it was necessary for the story. They very accurately reflected what a silent movie looked like and I thought it was a deserving nomination.
Promising Young Woman yassss also, i hope Sound Of Metal gets in instead of Da 5 Bloods
If Zendya gets nominated and wins the amount of tears of joy I will have for her...
Best Actor predictions:
1- Anthony Hopkins
2- Gary Oldman (based on the fact that he was a 62 year old man playing someone who was in their early 40’s)
3- Riz Ahmed
4- Steven Yeun
5- Maybe Chadwick Boseman, not overly convinced by his performance, might enjoy it more after a second watch
I tried Da 5 Bloods but honestly couldn't make it past 30 minutes and I really tried. Such a shame.
You are not alone. I complete all the movie but making a big effort. Not my cup of tea.

The house that jack built
I have thought this before but this year solidified my opinion that the 2 best and most dynamic actresses working today are McDormand and Davis. Streep and Close are right behind them.
I feel like sorkin will get snubbed for Director like three billboards then people will think Nomadland will win
Precisely
Agreed, I’m still predicting a Sorkin snub.
It's actually more of a possibility than people might realize. I hope it doesn't happen, but...
But it could also be a Farrelly type snub like Green Book
Didn't care that much about the movie at first but Carey mulligan performance in that promising young woman film is extraordinary... She deserves to be nominated minimum
Could Mads get a comedy/musical nom?
Maybe

I so hope Chadwick gets best actor
@@sherrigrant573 He'll surely win an Oscar, that's indisputable. But I agree with you that he deserves to win in the Lead Actor category instead of the Supporting one!
Gary Oldman is not happening for actor..I have Yeun for 5th spot

I haven’t seen Nomanland but Vanessa Kirby in Pieces of a Woman is hands down one of the best performances that I’ve seen in a few months. She was amazing. I bet McDormand is fantastic too, but I’m hoping it’s Kirby for it
Nah, about time a black woman wins this and Viola was robbed for the Help so she's got this one in the bag!

I feel like Minari is the all American feel-good movie that might meet the moment and take the win. But you’ve got to doubt it because would the Academy really pick back to back non-English films. If not, it’s Nomadland or Judas.
I love Another Round and kinda hope Mads Mikkelsen could at least get a nomination for Best Actor. A wishful thinking 🌤
Im happy that ahmed performance in sound of metal isnt ignored
Promising young woman was the only film on the list that had me wanting to see it over and over again.

Best Picture : The Trial of Chicago 7
Best Actor : Chadwick Boseman (the frontrunner)
Best Supporting Actor : Daniel Kaluuya (the frontrunner)
Best Actress : Vanessa Kirby
Best Supporting Actress : Glenn Close or Amanda Seyfried
Sorry if you will feel offended, but if Aaron Sorkin won't get nominated for direction he won't be snubbed. I didn't like Chicago 7, you probably did and that's okay. But, obectively speaking, the direction is not good. Now that I got tha out of system I can be calm. Well, I really hope Another Round will go over International Film. I am reading that it is well appreciated in the biz. Pedro Almodovar labeled it as his fave film of the year, so we know one vote for direction and picture nods.
So, what happened to Dara Of Jasenovac for Best Foreign Picture?

There could be three black actresses up for best actress: Davis, Day, and Zendya. I am very excited about this possibility.
But Carey mulligan and Sidney flanigan are very strong
If it was up too me, Sidney Flanigan would definitely be nominated. I feel that her performance and Talia Ryders performance in Never Rarely Sometimes Always are definitely the most underlooked this year.
In reference to what you said about Ammonite that it's no where so--

Honestly think u guys should change your opinion about Wolfwalkers, since that’s actually better reviewed by audiences and critics when compared to Soul.

Marriage Story didn't get ensemble nominations because it's not a fucking ensemble movie
If Beasts of No Nation can get a SAG Ensemble nomination with 3 actors listed as the cast, Marriage Story should have gotten one too.
How is News od the World at 17 when its a sure thing for so many tech categories. It's also one of the few studios films. Having Hanks inthe cast will ensure its seen.
It’s number 17 for only best picture
I don't see Chicago 7 winning Best Picture. Even Green Book was more cinematic than that.
The only thing that matters is Gary and Viola or Frances winning
Controversial take: What are the chances that Riz Ahmed becomes an Ethan Hawke in First Reformed? Wins all the critics and indie awards and just gets completely shut out at the major awards? I obviously do not want that to happen because I love Riz and very excited that he is getting the attention he deserves. BUT it did happen to an amazing performance from Hawke. A slight difference is that Riz's campaign seems much stronger but I can't remember Hawke's. Do you think its a possibility Ahmed (and inevitably Raci) get shut out and SoM only gets recognized as a sound achievement?
So weird to realise that we only have one or two more predictions videos to go before the nom announcements!!

Too bad Jallikattu doesn’t have money to market itself......would’ve won the Best International Feature.

Aniplex is probably not seriously considering an Oscar nomination. As much as I like Demon Slayer, only Japan would take the movie seriously as an awards contender; expect a nomination at the Japan Academy.
I think you guys are severely underestimating One Night in Miami and overstating Sound of Metal.

I hope Sophia Loren gets the nomination, although "The Life Ahead" moment has passed apparently. I'm probably the only one still obsessed about it.

It’s so weird Trial of Chicago 7 gets so many nominations basically because the film is horrible. Hope Sound Of Metal grows to get a best picture nomination
Did you guys watched *JALLIKATTU* malayalam movie..(from India)
Such an amazing movie!!
Sound design, cinematography, direction and theme all top notch!!!
Please do watch and review👍
Chadwick performance is Gold, Ma'Rainey is breathtaking
