I was very amused about the game :)
I'm just wondering if I was your opponent, because I also tried your setup and remember an opponent who first ran on my bomb with the major, and then found my flag! But actually , I always tried to protect my flag.
I love your set up with the flag in front :)) I love all your videos and enjoy it, hope you‘ll make many more
But really interesting how fast you can get an idea of your opponent after the first moves! You were pretty focused on it being a marshal blitzer , but he just wanted to defend his side :) I probably would have thought so! And probably everyone thinks that also about you, if you play so and have your flag in front :D
He should have played more from the middle and I wouldn't have let the general stand in front! I think, he had himself locked up on the other two sides, so you were forced to concentrate on the right side with his flag!

Just let me know your Stratego screen name and I can tell you if it was you. Reading setups of players between 250 and 600 ELO is fairly easy once you've played lots of games and know your opponents won/loss record and ranking. Beginner's setups can be hard to read because they don't understand the game yet. Their setups can be confusing and random. Higher level gold and platinum player's setups can also be hard to read because they try to fool you. They sometimes try to do the opposite of what you would think and bluff a lot.
I wasn't sure what to do in the game. I was trying to find the marshal. I was down 2 majors. I didn't want to attack and possibly lose my colonel on the left since I didn't know where the Marshal was located. I was hoping to scout the marshal, when I accidentally found the flag. I wonder if I ever lost to a player with a flag up front. I wish they'd reveal the game pieces after the game was over so I'd know where my opponent's flag was located.

Interesting game! Thanks for posting it. I've seen other players move up and over to start, not just used a marshall blitzer or flag upfront player.

I thought the opponent was a marshal blitzer because he only attacked on the 1 side and because he had the General defending in the center. Plus I found a bomb on the top row on the probable weak side. I probably also thought that because I think I played 3 or 4 marshal blitzers in a row. lol It's still funny that I couldn't recognize my own strategy used against me. The major moving up and over seemed strange for a USA player under 300 ELO. I remember thinking at the time that that was a different start. I was just glad that I wouldn't be going 3 majors down. I was very happy with the major swap.

it sucks that you cannot enjoy playing "flag up front" because this game does allow you to be anonymous. If this game allows being anonymous, it will solve so many problems like cheating/multipleaccountsetupuser/etc. because it's really interesting to watch you play with "flag up front".

I would love anonymous Stratego play. I talked about it on the Stratego forum. The only information you would know about your opponent at the start of the game, would be their won/loss record for the last 25 games and their current ranking. The ranking doesn't have to be specific either. It could just tell you if they are a "high platinum" or "low silver" player, etc. That would make it hard to guess who you were playing. Once the game is over, your opponent's game board would be revealed and you would see their current record and ranking. There is supposed to be a way(some command) that allows you to choose who you play without losing any ELO points at the start of the game. So if you don't want to play an opponent you get matched up with, you can leave the game at the start without any penalty. Unfortunately, I don't know what that command is.
Once you start getting over 500 ELO, the number of players that you get matched up with drops a lot. If you only can play a certain day and time(when a lot of players are not online), you start getting matched up with the same few players. The main reason I started the youtube channel was I hoped more bronze and silver players would get better and increase the gold and low level platinum pool of players.
Mr. Joker, I did recently play a game where I used up almost all of my pieces. I will eventually post it. My opponent and I each had 1 piece left. I had to guess where the flag was located, because all my bombs were gone.
Playing with the flag up front is interesting. Sometimes you have to make strange moves or decisions that probably baffle your opponent. For example, it's very hard and dangerous to trap pieces on the flag side side. So I might not try to capture a piece, even when my opponent knows his piece is trapped. If I do something that doesn't make sense, it's usually because of the flag location. Otherwise, I probably played too fast and made a stupid blunder.

Interesting. I never thought the flag was up front but halfway through I could tell he wasn't a marshal blitzer. How long do you think it is safe to assume they aren't a Marshal Blitzer? Usually within a dozen moves the marsh is discovered in my games.

Usually you see the Marshal in the first few moves. They might scout twice and then move up with a Captain or Major and then bring up their Marshal. Sometimes they just use 1 Scout and move up with the Marshal if they find a Captain or Major. The key to blitzing is to surprise your opponent quickly with the Marshal attack. Sometimes they just move up the Marshal first and hope you attack it with a frontline piece. They hope to get a Captain or Major and not a Scout or Sergeant. And then they scout the piece on the side and maybe bring up a Colonel or Major to trap a piece. I might try blitzing, as a tactic, next year.
