Stratego Game Analysis: A Shocking Game
Happy Thanksgiving! This is a game I played when I first started playing at Stratego.com. It's one of my favorite games that I played. Unfortunately, it looks like Stratego.com will be shutting down at the end of the year. The 2 player game won't be available to play because they use Adobe Flash and that will no longer be supported by browsers in 2021. So have fun playing as much as you can.
Also note, another player is using the alias "dobby125" on Stratego.com. That's not me. My screen name is "Dobby125". I haven't used that account in several years.

    This game can really be improved. 1) assign one chief scout which has the same value as a scout except that when it hits an enemy unit, the latter remains revealed. 2) promotion of certain units such as the lieutenant, the captain, and the major if they manage to take two or three n-1 ranked units.

  • @Mou3allembelgayb
    @Mou3allembelgayb 23 години тому

    Those are the very rare situations where your general is stronger than your marshal, as no enemy piece can take out your general.

  • @Mou3allembelgayb

    It would be interesting if a piece of rank n could be promoted if it takes a certain amount of n-1 enemy pieces.

    I'm also an analytical type, I trust in probabilities. In poker, for example, this is very important, and it's also important to know that things won't always work out if there's a high probability, but the most likely play is still the best play. If a play has a 90% chance of working out, the right thing to do is to make that play, and if it doesn't? It doesn't matter if it didn't work out once, because the probability of that same play working out the next time and it does work out is simply very high, the times it works out will end up compensating for the times it didn't work out, in this case it would be 9 successes to 1 failure. I love that kind of thing.

    Did you take a course on dice or do you work in this field? I admire those who do this work of analyzing so many games/setups and putting them in a table to know the probability of a certain piece being in a certain place or not. Do you have a table available for download? Do you still play stratego? I'm a noob, I would like a coach if possible, or simply for you to play with me and give me some tips, I really value your work.

    This bomb structure bombed in two pieces as a "fake out". This guy also put most of his Majors and Captains in the back to preserve them for the late game, which makes your execution of the "bleeding technique" all the more impressive.

    So you are a hacker/cheater for using his own strategy against him.

  • @kingrex1931
    @kingrex1931 5 місяців тому

    I think your opponent followed the rule of "Always capture with the lower piece", but he needs to understand why you capture that way, which is to not reveal the higher valued piece. He needs to know to capture with revealed pieces over hidden pieces. I don't know if you still monitor this channel, but it would be nice to see you make some new content.

  • @kingrex1931

    I figured out this bomb configuration pretty quickly. It is especially obvious that they have bombed in pieces when you don't come across any Seargents.

    In this situation I would have no problem taking his Colonel w my Marshal. Even if you get spied, you’re up a General, and Colonel, probably 3 Sergeants (lol), you know where his Marshal is, and you have a good read on his Flag. Also, his Marshal had been playing very passively, and you’d be able to spread the field and bleed out his low ranking pieces. Good video!

      If you like a fun quick Stratego game, try downloading the free Probe Stratego game (version 2.3.0.0) for the PC and play against it with a random setup. The games go fast. Try winning 5 in a row(it can be harder than you think). The random setup lets you really understand how important setups are toward actually winning the game. The games are a lot of fun. I like how aggressive Probe is when it's way behind or way ahead. I'll probably be posting some of these games.

      I didn't even know about it. Thanks for telling me. I just read it had an 84% win ratio against human players. That's really good if the wins were against the top Stratego players. It would interesting if you let a few top players play it 10 times to understand how it plays. Then play another 10 games to see if it still has the same high win ratio against the top players.
