The Baltic-Adriatic Corridor corresponds to Rail Freight Corridor 5 (RFC 5), which forms a key north-west rail axis between the Baltic ports in Poland and the ports of the Adriatic Sea in Slovenia and Italy while connecting them with land terminals in Poland, Czech, Slovakia, Austria, Italy, and Slovenia. RFC 5 links industrial centres of North Europe with South Europe nodes and landlocked countries.
The principal route of the freight corridor from North to South: Swinoujscie/Gdynia-Katowice-Ostrava/Žilina-Bratislava/Vienna/Klagenfurt-Udine-Venice/Trieste/Bologna/Ravenna/Graz-Maribor-Ljubljana-Koper/Trieste.
