My husband had so much fun making the thumbnail for this video that I almost had him replace the "Tesla" line. But then I realized: When I was at the reveal, I started texting my friends who are in the Model 3 market about this car. I think it's going to be a great option.
I wish you did (not use Tesla in the thumbnail). Sorry, just the whole Tesla thing comes off as clickbait and it's not needed. The Volvo is much smaller than the Tesla Model 3 and the Model 3 is a sedan while the Volvo is a tall hatchback being called an SUV. You did a good job of the presentation. Tidbit, the Volvo EX30's interior design was headed by an English woman named Lisa Reeves. Volvo has been "understated" for a long time and that's the term I prefer. Understated Scandinavian style opposed to "minimalist" which is applied to Tesla, but I think Tesla is more California tech workspace in its interior approach.
As an owner of a Chevrolet Bolt I love seeing new, small and affordable EVs! Glad you enjoyed your time in Margaritaville too, planning on making that pilgrimage at Niagara falls later this month
Ladies & Gentleman I give you the "New Queen" of UA-cam Automotive based content. All bow down & relish in the amazement.. 👑 I enjoyed the vlog style over the more traditional stand & deliver way of presenting.. Can't wait to see more
With the tax incentives in the US, I don't see this being competitive with the Tesla Model 3 based on price alone. HOWEVER, I think this should be a smash hit around the world. It's about time someone tried to beat the $40k base price with something compelling (other than the original Nissan Leaf).
These are already starting to hit the roads in hte UK and I've seen one in the showroom, but wow do they look nice in person outsdie on the road. Just such a positive looking vehicle.
That cup holder design is awesome. Thought you were gonna try pressing "call back" for the fake contacts on the demo screen -- it would have been hilarious if Volvo had PR people waiting to take calls. Stoked to see the driving impressions soon!
Love everything about the EX30 _except_ for the lack of an instrument panel. Great size, style, price, performance, range. I have a newer XC-90 so am a fan of Volvo design, just think central instrument panels are bad from a human factors perspective.
It's fun hearing "cute little tiny SUV" because for me, driving in a European city, the problem it's quite the opposite. :D I booked the car because I really like it, but 4.23m it's really the maximum I'm willing to drive here.
The rental cars I've driven with touch screen entertainment/climate control systems have been nothing short of a pain in the butt. A lot of time it wouldn't recognize that I touched the screen, so it wouldn't change the radio station, or change the fan speed, etc. The screen might look cool, but it's functionality needs improvement while driving.
It's all pretty rad on the outside, inside? Yeah no. No thanks. Please give us a gauge cluster where it makes sense, tactile hvac knobs, buttons, buttons, buttons. The tablet on the dash is a design and function fail. Thanks for making such great videos!
Volvo isn't going the dealer route to sell their EVs. They're going the online route. It may not be 35K due to having cars with certain "packages" on them, but not necessarily because of Volvo dealer markups. I'd look more at $45K for most of them sold in the USA with option packages and not the base models.
I feel like having to look right at the screen to see my speed would bother me, but maybe it's not as big of a deal as I think it is. I do like that price point.
It's not really, is it? It's smaller. Base model "from" the price quoted with 200 mile EPA range..... Model 3, $40k, but you don't get the $7,500 with the Volvo or the 273 mile EPA range.... . There's more.... But 🤷♀️
For an EV that is a SUV, this isn’t terrible whatsoever, not a huge fan of EVs or SUVs, but this Volvo is fantastic to look at, also surpising that this is $35K, and how you open the trunk is sick!
I like the minimalist interior, although the speckled surfaces don't look like they'll age well style-wise. My wife drives a Lexus UX250h, which no one buys because it's small (same footprint in the garage as my 99 Civic Si coupe that is parked next to it). I wonder if Americans will respond to this despite its small size. Price is great and it looks upmarket. We need more $35k EVs. Opting for Margaritaville in the culinary capital of the country kills my soul, BTW 😭😭😭
I was hoping cars would start to head away from the "giant center touch screen" trend the industry is in. I didn't like it when it showed up in Teslas, I like it even less when it shows up EVERYWHERE.
MADE in CHINA, OWNED by CHINA. Volvo IS NOT a Swedish company anymore! Trading good manufacturing jobs at home for a slight discount? Have we learned nothing in the last 40 years? You cannot report on this car and ignore the SINGLE BIGGEST THING happening here.
Nonsense. Volvo is very much a Swedish company. They are headquartered, managed, operated in Sweden. The personnel responsible for this car's design is chiefly in Sweden (the SEA platform the car uses is by Geely and even that was chiefly engineered by Swede Kent Ove Bovellan). They are crash tested in Sweden. Yes, Geely is a parent company just like VW is a parent company to Lamborghini or Tata a parent company to Rover. Volvo is Swedish and if anything, they have more Swedish involvement and identity under Geely than they did under Ford. As for where it is made, not important. Volvos are made in Sweden, Belgium, the USA, China and soon to be Slovakia. Plenty Western products are made in China including some Buicks and a lot of appliances and electronics designed and owned by American brands. The Volvo EX90 will be made in the USA and the flagship S90 and this EX30 will be made in China while the XC40 and C40 are made in Belgium.
'Minimalism' in a car means often means shitty ergonomics. Yeah, turn your head over to the central screen instead of having the instrument cluster right in front of your eyes. Next step, let's get rid of that old relic steering wheel, slap a touchpad instead to control the car.
Electric cars are not the future. You're paying more for the car and it's going to cost you more to "Fill up" than a gasoline car. So many negatives for electric... lol I wouldn't buy one now or in 10 years. Not worth!
What are you talking about, it's $11 to go 300 miles in an EV, and prices are now at parity with gas cars. If you have solar it costs $0 to drive year round.
My husband had so much fun making the thumbnail for this video that I almost had him replace the "Tesla" line. But then I realized: When I was at the reveal, I started texting my friends who are in the Model 3 market about this car. I think it's going to be a great option.
Isn’t the Model 3 like $35K as well? Also great first vlog on your own Alanis!!!

We need more small EVs like this. No more hummer EVs
Agreed! Especially in the United States
The EX30 looks awesome
Totally agree
As an owner of a Chevrolet Bolt I love seeing new, small and affordable EVs! Glad you enjoyed your time in Margaritaville too, planning on making that pilgrimage at Niagara falls later this month
It's sooooooooo fun. Enjoy!
Doing my part in the like/comment/subscribe trifecta. Keep up the wonderful work!
Thank you : )
Looks like the interior maybe a LITTLE too minimalist for me, but would like to see in person. Love the starting price and overall look
I think that could also be an issue! I'm really interested to drive it and see how I feel
Manhattan Classic Car Club @ 6:58? Great place! I'm interested in the EX30 now...
It is a great place!
It looks ADORABLE 🥰!

I like it, but i hate no gauge cluster thing, in all cars which do it.
As a Tezla owner I am so jelly. Well done volvo
Interesting novel take on an “affordable” EV. Thanks for sharing Alanis, keep up the great work 👍🏻
Thank you : )

They look great!

Ah I should have! That would have been really good

Very fair
Can you have a digital key on your apple watch?

America is such a wild place tbh
I need the unicorn goldilocks EV60 no crossover I want an electric wagon.
Well, nothing kills Tesla but be nice to see someone compete
Excellent!
Good job with the camera work being solo too.
I too am excited for this as it’s a nice affordable EV.
Thank you so much!
It's a Tablet, not an iPad.
Like I don't call every Laptop a Macbook
Or every Phone an iPhone
Or every EV a Tesla
honestly the speedo and stuff in center stack is not something I think I would like. Reminds me of the prius v,
Totally fair

It will never be 35k in the States, the only reason is the dealers.
Volvo isn't going the dealer route to sell their EVs. They're going the online route. Teslas are basically perfect, so this wont be a Tesla killer. Although, it does look awesome and should sell well.
It looks sooo good
I feel like having to look right at the screen to see my speed would bother me, but maybe it's not as big of a deal as I think it is. I do like that price point.
You're so right. I'm super curious what it's like to drive
It’s not much different than glancing in the rear view mirror. I have a model 3 and it took less than a day to get used to!
👍🏻🇺🇸
It's not really, is it?
It's smaller.
Base model "from" the price quoted with 200 mile EPA range.....

It's not. That's a base price but Volvo is showing a car that's $10K more than $35K. The base model is quite quick however.
Just note the model shown will probably approach $50,000
I like the minimalist interior, although the speckled surfaces don't look like they'll age well style-wise.

Great styling, huh
I can’t see a cringe anywhere 👍
needs to qualify for the 7500 tax credit :(
Do dont like the specs on the interior trim.
Looks like same problem as Tesla you cannot close the subroof. So in Florida you need to blow the AC to full. So stupid.
It least it looks better then the Mercedes electric eggs… 🥚
I was hoping cars would start to head away from the "giant center touch screen" trend the industry is in. I didn't like it when it showed up in Teslas, I like it even less when it shows up EVERYWHERE.
I'm very interested to see how they hold up over time too
