This was an excellent demonstration and educational for beginner dahlia growers like me. Thank you. Well done.

Great to see the conclusion of the experiment.
I found it interesting that the viable plantlets had all put out an auxiliary root system
from the base of the shoot with the exception of Karma Naomi which had the least
damaged neck. The shoot was not wasting energy on roots as it had plenty of nutrition
from the tuber itself. Thank you.

Hi Tammie, Oh yes! Well spotted and thank you for looking so closely. You are absolutely correct, the damaged necks has indeed set up a reaction in the plantlets to stimulate rooting at the shoot base, presumably to make up for the lack of nutrition and water through the broken neck. And Karma Naomi "proves" the point by not having these roots. Thank you so much for your interest, and powers of observation!

Thanks Tara, yes I'm happy I did it, I now reject broken necks ruthlessly. Thanks for the support, and good luck with your growing.

Fascinating, receiving broken neck’s tubers are a waste of money, by the look. 😢

Hi Catherine, thanks for commenting. Yes indeed, tubers can have a hard time in transport and this is the result.
