as for lucy's "why?", i guess it's more like a general "why do people up here always betray and kill another? noone had to die if we just would have passed each other". but she wasn't aware that they were fiends at that time ....
That was my take on it too. She genuinely just thought they could leave each other in peace...

Maximus calling fiends cannibals gave some people the wrong idea. Fiends dont generally eat people (some do) theyre drug fiends.

You can make a crude toothpaste by breaking up charcoal and mixing it with just enough water to make it a paste.
Unsweetened ethanol (drinking alcohol) products can be used as mouthwash. Methanol will make you go blind and die.
Making alcohol could actually be a very helpful skill will the world ends, and isn't as complicated as you think, though distilling requires decent chemistry equipment.

➡️When I was watching Fallout show and as I was watching this very episode I realized that in a way I was watching the Wizard of Oz.
The Vault girl, Lucy is Dorothy. The Goul, Cooper is the Scarecrow. Maximus is the Tin Man.
And I think perhaps the Lucy's brother, Norm is the Cowardly Lion. Plus to add to all of this you have the dog serving as Toto.
As to who is the Wicked Witch of the West, who is Glinda and who is the Wizard I can't totally make up my mind. I guess one could say the person who kidnapped the Dad is the Wicked Witch and the people who helped her are the Flying Monkeys. But I am not 100% sold on that thought yet. I feel there are far bigger villians in this story.
Fallout is also a bit of a reverse of the Wizard of Oz being that the Lucy is not trying to get home. She left her almost perfect yet artificial home to get her family home. But the Vault does have a Kansas farm feel to it with the crop fields.
The more I think about each character the more I see the similarities.
