Wow, mad respect to Tom for consistently seeking to reinvent himself. He is not a complacent artist and I’m certain we can expect surprising and inspiring tunes for the rest of his career. He is my favorite artist. Squarepusher’s music is an expression of the limitless freedom of the human soul.
his non-solo, group-improv shit I've been able to find online is so killer, particularly that video of him with the sax player. wish there were more of that. . . most people i talk to who really used to be into his electronic opus aren't even able to identify what traits set his music apart from other electronic music out there. ask them to transcribe a few minutes of a track from Feed Me Weird Things or Conumber, they can't do it... they all end up moving onto simpler shit that has the same image and cosmetic characteristics Tom's stuff has but doesn't push the envelope in the same way and I've found that they resent anyone who tries to point out significant differences between the two approaches .
Love me a Squarepusher interview
