While it didn't have nearly as strong character beats as Shrek 4, which surprised everyone by being one of the better movies, 3 did have some jokes that worked, like I liked Pinnichio's complex and deliberately frustrating way of getting around not wanting to betray the princesses but also not being able to lie with a ludicrously complex multiple negative. It could have just ended with "Well... I know where they AREN'T" but it just keeps going and getting more and more confusing and it's hilarious. Also the line "Help, I'm being chased by a horrible monster, and he's trying to relate to me!"

Thank you so much. Shrek the Third definitely has some flaws but I still enjoy it very much and I feel that the backlash it's getting is really exaggerated. I'm really glad you said your honest opinion about this topic.
    Love your voice, btw.

Not at all I really like Shrek the third.. [mainly because of Arthur dang fictional crushes]
It isn’t the best but it’s it’s still a pretty decent film the best scene is the princesses escape
      My favorite is Snow White
Oh and can’t forget the dream sequence
      “DADA!”

i like shrek the third bc it’s nostalgic to me. I do wish charming was more of a serious villain and not just some man child who wants revenge.

Shrek the Third was a disappointment because it tried to focus too much on the whole "Find a new King Plot" while at the same time focusing on "Shrek being a father"

I agree theres potential in this movie for it to be something great yet still bound by corporate inserts.
For the most part i feel like prince charming was the best part of the movie and it did make alot of sense to me.
If you removed arthur from the story and have shrek go through a big drama about being king then the story wouldve been better plus i wouldve loved a vicious war like battle with shrek and charming fighting to the death.

I always felt bad for Charming, actually. He'd been coddled and manipulated by his mother for so long that he feels like the world belongs to him. It's quite similar to Azula, actually, and how Ozai gradually hollowed out her innocence until she was nothing but a subservient pawn.

i feel like shrek the third is severely underrated cuz its really not that bad, i did actually find some parts a bit funny like the part where Pinocchio is talking with charming, Shrek's baby nightmare scene, and the "I'm dying" part

I really respect how you can admit you like something while being very critical of it, Addy. It feels like nowadays you're expected to turn your brain off to like something, or be a hater if you're aware of its flaws.
I did NOT like Shrek the Third. Shrek was, for better or worse, my childhood movie franchise. I LOVED the first two movies, and got so excited for the third movie that my mom got it to me on DVD for Christmas. I was pretty disappointed by how lackluster it was, but I'll admit, I did always think the story had good ideas. Like you mentioned, the themes and follow-up on Shrek's development, it's all there, it makes sense and they can even be well-executed at times. It's just too disjointed and awkward 9 times out of 10. Even when I enjoyed the fourth movie more, I didn't want the franchise to continue any longer because Shrek the Third seemed to kill its magic. I've only turned around to it now, because Puss In Boots The Last Wish was really good, and Shrek 5 would be in good hands if its the same crew.

There's a lot about Shrek the Third I found really embarrassing and awkward, but I can still see the good in it, and I love me a proper tragic villain
I like to think critically and sincerely about everything I watch. Sometimes it feels like fans of art ironically don't think much about it, even though they proclaim loyalty to it. I worry people are becoming less and less aware of their own tastes and thought patterns as media becomes simpler and more pandering

    • @8nicopink868

@@AddyLovestar Yeah, to be honest I agree with you on Charming. A lot of people didn't like that he was the villain but I actually thought it was a good idea and well-executed, when the rest of the awkward writing wasn't bringing him down. His grieving leading to him feeling entitled to Far Far Away's kingdom feels like the perfect progression for him after Shrek 2.
And I've definitely noticed that. Fans nowadays almost seem to resent the idea of thinking critically on things, like they think it makes you a buzzkill, cringe, ruining the fun, a hater even. It could be because media panders to them. I also think it could be that people are just getting way too attached to the media they love, so they take criticism of it very personally.

I don't think those problems are unrelated, though they do both exist. If you have a moment, I really recommend this article, though it's quite wordy: monthlyreview.org/2021/11/01/disney-salo-and-pasolinis-inconsumable-art/

@@AddyLovestar I just read through it, and *oof.* I am both surprised and not surprised to find out Disney + and Netflix use AIs to figure out what audiences say they like, but...damn, that's creepy 💀But, yeah, I totally get its point that media's constant "Don't Think About It Just Consume" kind of wiriting has numbed down the critical thinking skills of a lot of people.

Shrek the Third I think is severely overhated.
I just wish Artie served some importance in the 4th film but he wasn’t mentioned or shown that all,
so that really made a huge continuity error of connecting them back to back.
That being said I guess you can look at this as being the ending you want for the franchise,
or Shrek Forever After which I always preferred over the third.
I guess they couldn’t afford Justin Timberlake to come back.

Greetings from Russia. Where we also love Shrek. Yes, and as for me, Shrek the Third is a not bad film, but clearly inferior to Shrek 2. Although, perhaps Shrek the Third, a little saved the voice of Alexei Kolgan (Russian voice of Shrek)

0:19 Prequels? Do you know what prequels are? Shrek 1 & 2 came out before Shrek the Third but they are not prequels because it naturally happens before shrek the third unlike Puss In Boots 2011 because that is the Prequel of Shrek

    • @AddyLovestar
      @AddyLovestar  10 місяців тому

Sure, but you know what I meant, yeah? Whether it was made after/before is kinda irrelevant I think, so I used it just in reference to fictional chronology
I tend to say predecessor now, but I think the existing definition of prequel is pretty pointless anyway
