E-Flite Cirrus SR22T 1.5M Maiden Flight and Crash

  • Every second of the flight went perfect . Then , When I turned the plane gently to the right to line up for the landing pass , It abruptly turned to the left , lost power and crashed . It felt like someone took control of it .
Really disappointing seeing as it flew so well .
I managed to repair it . It took a lot of work . The motor shaft was badly bent , I replaced it . Funny enough the prop didn't break even though it ripped the motor right out of the plane , I Did a very extensive range check and hard control ground test .
I put it back into the air with complete confidence and then same thing happened , again . The receiver glitched , it happened twice . I gained control for a fraction of a second but it crashed AGAIN . Now the front end of the fuselage , with the two carbon rods is so badly damaged I don't think it can be saved .
Luckily , the motor I borrowed from another plane was OK . And the prop DID break this time . spectacularly . The wings got damaged and the cockpit and cowling broke , Its done , It's gone . very sad
I should have replaced the receiver , but this is the very first time I've ever had an issue with a Spektrum receiver .
    Thanks for watching .

Making that walk after a crash is just the worst! Hope you were able to piece her back together. I just had a similar incident with my UMX TT, tore the motor right out of the fuselage. I was able to rebuild the mount using CA mixed with baking soda. Hope to see the Cirrus back in the air again soon.

Thanks for watching Rob . It will need a new fuselage because the carbon fiber support bars are badly broken and a motor because the shaft is bent . And considering the receiver is no good either , I might as well just get another one , one day , rather than try to fix this .
The Cirrus is a great plane , It's just this older model I got had a bad receiver in it .
Glad to hear you got your UMX TT repaired , It's a fantastic plane and one of my favorites to fly . Mine broke off the whole nose on a crash and was repaired .with Foam Tac Still flies great .
More plane videos on the way .
      Take care .

Hello Philip 👋 geez I didn't expect the cirrus to go down like that, it was doing so well with the slow fly buys! I watched it come down a few times and I didn't notice pilot error and as for range you weren't that far out you flew a few passes around that area so I'm thinking it might be a mechanical failure of some sort. Other than the motor being flung right out of the plane she doesn't look too hard to put back together. If you find out what went wrong let us know! Isn't there a red version of this plane 🤔 good luck with the repairs your friend Marty from Canada 🇨🇦 🛩 🛩

Thanks Marty . Yeah . It's A shame . It was the receiver for sure . The battery was fine . range should have been fine . and flight speed . I was coming in for the landing passes and it just browned out with zero control .
This is the older , first version E-Flite did of the Cirrus . It's exactly the same as the current one except for the color and some updated electronics . Including the older AR636 receiver , they also increased the ESC to a 70 AMP full SMART .
I should have replaced the receiver , but this is the very first time I've ever had an issue with a Spektrum receiver .
i don't knock the Cirrus in general . It's a great flying plane as you saw . Take care Buddy

Sorry to see brother! It's a shame when a discontinued schemed plane takes a dirt nap. I've done it with this exact bird. I still have another one new in the box so I know at least one of mine is still in good shape! Good video. NIIIIIIIIIIIICE! 😁👍

Thanks Dave . Yes it's a shame because it was and does fly very good . It is a nice color , Sorry to hear you lost one too , I hope you got some good flying out of it before that happened . Smart thinking getting 2 . I've done that before with some great deals .
IDK maybe i can get a red fuselage and have a red , white and blue scheme going . But the motors bent too which means a new or swap out Thankfully I have lots others to fly this season .
it's a great plane and will be keeping an eye out for any sale on them for sure .
I have a UMX Cirrus NIB , which is near impossible to replace , but i want to fly it so bad . LOL

Lovely, serene flying and down to earth commentary. Ive done that trudge to a fallen plane. Take care of yourself.

Thanks for the comment . I'd like to think my skills have improved since then ...in both aspects.
There been a few more mishaps , mostly due to pilot error and another brand new receiver failure just the other day . Luckily I caught this one on the ground and have since changed it . Take care also .

My flying is best described as a adventure. Ive had the same plane up the same tree, twice. A flyaway edf which landed all by itself in a different field! And, like you, a signal loss which dropped my plane to the ground. Props in the post!

@@geofkane2365 Adventure is a good word to describe RC . It can be equally thrilling and disappointing , hopefully a lot more of the former . LOL

What radio were you using on this flight? iX12?... If it was that specific radio, trust me the blame wasn't on the receiver but the radio... I lost 4 planes to an iX12 before deciding to get rid of it. I got an iX20SE instead and ever since I switched, those mysterious mishaps disappeared from the equation!...
I'm sorry for your loss my friend, that was a beautiful plane, and you were flying her so beautifully 🙁
Thumbs-up for your video! 👍🏾 Have a great rest of your day! Greetings from Douglas, Arizona 🌵 🦠 😷 🇵🇷

Thanks for watching and you comment my friend . I hate seeing people lose planes too and hopefully sharing important info like you did will help others. I've heard of some issues with the iX12 from others as well .
I was on A NX8 . So far it's been exceptional radio and I've had no issues , but I have limited experience and only twenty or so modals in it .
I thought antenna placement could have been a possible issue , It came with an older AR 636 with a little short antenna sticking out at 90* and another longer one parallel to the fuse .
After this i did extensive range checking .There was a ton of frame rate lose with the AR636 .
It was a beautiful plane and it flys itself .
While i do blame this older , now discontinued , receiver I don't knock the Cirrus and would buy another if and when I so desired .
Glad to hear your new radio is working better for you . Happy Flying Brother . 🇨🇦🇺🇸

Dial in some expo like 25 to 30%. My Gen 2 model is awesome. Flying on Dubro 2.25" low bounce wheels and full metal gear servos upgrade. Clear coated beautiful plane. Great plane. 👍

that's a great hobby. We have a County park nearby with some talented pilots and cool radio controlled models.
I had the same experience with a drone, it suddenly had a mind of it's own. 👍 You take care Phil.

Thanks John . Yes it's a lot of fun and very relaxing most of the time . This receiver on this plane has a failsafe and should have levelled out the plane if it dropped a few rates in transmision . Something just went terribly wrong with it this time . Take Care .
