Thank you for this. I am 59, female, and not yet formally diagnosed. I have struggled for almost all of my life with autism, the hardest part being the unknown. Family have found ways to hurt and manipulate me, shame me and confuse me. Others (including my Dad) have always known I was not typical and supported and loved me through it. Both of my now adult sons are undiagnosed autistics, and I am now officially raising my two year old Autistic granddaughter. I am trying to have her diagnosed, as I believe it would help tremendously with deciding her permanent placement. Her maternal family have no clue about autism, and do not respect her specific needs nor "believe" in autism. I have two generations of proof that while Autisim can be a super power, not being neotropical can be exhausting and overwhelming.
Aside: what motivation could the Province of BC have for providing us with diagnosis, if that would mean they need to recognise and support us? Only rich folk can afford private services, and those primarily aren't the ones needing the support. It is in the government's best interest to ignore us 100,000+ people who can't get diagnosed.

Wow. A year and a couple thousand bucks??? I spent less than $500 and 3 months for my diagnosis. I feel very fortunate.

@@stuckinchaselandia6427 gotcha. I've been waiting a year and I'm finally starting the process next week..3 sessions and $3500.00.
It's intimidating as I've never met the Psychologist, only via email so far, and then video. Trusting her with an evaluation of my 58 years in this fashion is incredibly daunting. Doesn't seem right somehow.. but what can you do?

@@lillypicadilly4048 I am sorry you have had to wait so long just like so many others. But don't be too worried about meeting with the psychologist I'm sure you'll be just fine. I had the same apprehension and it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. You've survived 58 years navigating this difficult world a psychologist will be nothing for you 🙂

the us (as well as most of europe) is miles ahead of Canada when it comes to health care. people think we have free health care, but it's not 'free' if almost half of your paycheck goes to taxes, and it's not 'care' if you can't even get a GP or if you die of stage 4 cancer before you even get your first appointment with an oncologist. let's face it, if any of us had been born in a place like Sweden, we would have gotten the services we needed at a very young age and would now be thriving instead of struggling to survive.

I have issues with BC's diagnostic process as described on your website:
    1. Using the same diagnostic measures originally designed for children doesn't strike anyone as problematic?
    2. The described measures don't seem to account for masking when assessing social skills. While learning these skills can be much more difficult, there needs to be an acknowledgement that social skills can still be learned by autistic folks.
    3. The need to consult a third party when assessing whether or not a high-masking adult is autistic is just plain infantilising.

Implying that we need rehabilitation in order to 'fit in'. Implying they are normal and 'we' need to be 'fixed'. It a very narcissist mind set.

Hi, autistic adult here. I noticed the words "people with autism" mentioned a lot in this talk, which is pathologizing language and isn't helpful. When put that way it sounds like we're referring to "people with [issues]" or "people with [a disease]" as though autism is some unhealthy condition we need to find a "cure" for. Please consider just saying "autistic people." There's no need to pathologize autism. (It's very similar to how it's not proper to say "people with homosexuality.")
Despite all the difficulty I experience living in this world that's been built by, and for, neurotypical people, I'm proud to be autistic. I'm proud that I function differently than the majority and have different perspectives and abilities I bring to the table. Also, autism is integral to who I am as a person; autism and I cannot be separated. I don't even want to be neurotypical, I just want to live in a society that understands, supports, and invests in neurodivergent people.
Anyway, enough of that. Thank you very much for putting this talk together and posting it on youtube for everyone to see. It's very helpful to have more info and discussion brought forward about autism. It really helps.

good point, but being called "on the spectrum" is the most ignorant thing of all. do people not realize how many conditions occur on spectrums? every time i hear an autistic colleague being trash-talked, this is the term that is used.

I love how they mention all their pharma degrees as if we all considered pharma scientific or medicine at all. Some of us know better than trusting new age sub science and it's very sad how they also pay attention to those invented genders, the ones they use in school to abuse our children with their cult propaganda as if children needed to learn about that stuff at all. Teach them respect for all, simple, but stop pushing the WOKE pathetic propagandas designed to maim, sterilize, and divide everyone. Respect is give to all, this is called natural law, the only law we need and this one point includes everthing else because when we respect one another we don't lie, steal, manipulate.... or i mpose pharma on everyone, as if everyone wanted it. I use real medicine for myself and with no money, no support, and serious health issues I was born with I was able to function much better as a high masking middle aged autistic womnan compared to all those who claim pharma helps them. Money is in treating, not in curing, this is what they teach in those "medical" schools in those universities funded by PHARMA, the same people fund the research and sell you their poisons. They say that good doctors don't prescribe pills but a lifestyle change, and they only know how to pathologize others so they can sell them a cure. CLINICAL EFT TECHNIQUES, proven by real science, proven by million of real accounts and unlike the much slower and less effective cognitive therapy or EMDR, anybody can learn them for free and perform them at any time. If you all ate properly as mother nature truly intended, and Dr. Robert Morse TV has tons of science to offer on that, and if you used clinical eft tehcniques, you can learn them for free and eftuniverse.org offers tons of links to see all the 200 plus studies going on right now on them and the already done and peer reviewed 140 plus studies performed in the past forty years. See, pharma is not health care and I am really tired of seeing tax dollars going into utter BS rather than real research and anybody can research. These professors are all children who instead of getting a real job get big brother to pay their wages and they only get funding when they do research in things big brother wants to fund aka PHARMA. Natural Law is not in bed with them, only the fake man made law, courtesy of the cult. Love yourselves, look into these things and take steps to help yourselves because they certainly have no interest in doing so. They need a lot of clients to continue playing with their little experiments! I feel like you when it comes to those neurotypicals, being different from them is a good thing considering most of them are nothing mnore than selfish pompous arrogant sleeple. Backstabbing is normal to them, treating others like their rug and when they "care" it's usually because they have so mething to gain. To me they are the toxic ones, liars and posers who are so full of themselves they can't even see we are here to help them find their empathy that they lost so long ago when they forgot how to be kind, humble, and honest. Yup, overall after these past three years of plandemic I can only say one thing, BS is the land of the cult and the sleeple and I can't wait to move away from a country of such posers who waste money on utter bs and then claim don't have funds to help those who actually need it nobody excluded. Love yourselves, they certainly don't.

As a diagnosed autistic person knock it off! I'm an autistic person with autism. Quit the stupid language games. We are people we have autism just like we are people and we have skin. your stupid language games don't help anyone or anything but your own personal mental landscape.

you both seem like half decent doctors, can you explain to me why you have never mentioned nor used clinical eft techniques? BC is a horrible place to be with all the woke BS, gender BC and now this. I don't consider pharma medicine and never have, nor scientific. I find it sad how people are so misinformed when it comes to health and how they trust pharma so blindly when it's clear by proof that those of us who stayed away from pharma have only done better over time. Being assessed may be helpful for those who need actual help in terms of money etc. but we all know Turdeau has no problem wasting money on BS instead of providing actual support. I don't use pharma and I find it disgusting how it has been imposed on everyone as if it was actual science. Do what you want but stop imposing your fake science on the rest. How can you honestly think pharma is helpful with all we know about the damages that stuff is really caused? I am really disgusted when people make a career out of using others as their personal guinea pigs the way pharma and their minions do. Real medicine is not pharma and I am tired of seeing this stuff pushed over real medicine and stuff that actually helps now and is mostly free! Contact people like me when you want to find an actual solution! At least you tried so we can appreciate that but it's sad how you never look in the right places. I am almost fifty and am truly sick of seeing injustice, both in Italy and now here.
