I haven't felt well, barely trudging through work the last 4 or 5 days.. it's videos like this that help me cope. I seriously get depressed and down without the gym.
Back in the swing of things. Feeling strong still getting the gains. Sometimes you need the rest.. I'll try to remember to look at this when I forget!
I saw another like on this, and wanted to update. I am in the prime of my lifting phase at this point. I've only been lifting seriously for under two years, but I'm still progressing weekly. Your diet is important. Being in a slight surplus is very important for muscle gain. Don't worry about your 6 pack.. muscle is harder to gain, than fat is to lose.
Never alone man ❤
Dude me too, i was completely backlog for my test and had a 4 day break and u was afraid to go to jim as i thought I'll not be able to life as hard as before ( though i knew it not to be true ) but this vid just helped me.
Seriously bro. I’ve lifted over 60 days straight. Tweaked my back getting my in truck lol squatted today and really tweaked it. I’m taking a week off lifting still going for light cardio stretching and sauna. I’m addicted
In my experience, I think a week off does wonders for your joints. It's a blessing in my eyes
Yes
and joints
this is where im at
This is what I needed to hear
@@MrLac9686I took 2 weeks off after 12 straight months of no days off. My muscle got bigger and when I came back to lifting the pumps were crazy. Arms were 17.5” with pump. When I came back they were 18.25” with pump.
I find it’s harder to get back in the groove of exercising regularly if I take too much time off; being consistent is actually easier in the long run.
If you love to excercise you won't find it hard to get back into it.
Not good for the central nervous system. Needs a break sometimes..
I agree
You body needs at least a week off every eight weeks.
Does it count if I think two weeks from lifting to fast, focus on yoga, meditation, Icebath, cardio?
I totally agree.missing a week makes your body recover and you gain much size if you let your body recover on a timely basis if your training 3months 4 to 5 days a week. Your muscles may seem soft during no working days but as soon as you hit the gym muscle memory does its thing
so weird yesterday i decided to have a week off this week for first time in ages and this comes up
I swear their videos pop up at the best of times!!
Me too 💯💯💯
I took last week off. It wasn’t amazing. Didn’t sleep properly due to work and family commitments. But this is my mind speaking I think my body needed it.
Same
You got small
Everything 3/4 months I take a week off. Best recovery ever and you miss nothing in gains and feel so much better for it
Do you mean to say you take a week off every 3 or 4 months, or every 3 weeks?
@@trevbarlow9719 every three to four months he takes a week off
I was just gonna say this. You could probably do this every 2 months, probaly has a huge impact on tendon recovery
I’m going to consider it
@@nickps2251 exactly. I think most people are worried about losing gains etc but it's the opposite. After a few weeks back training I feel and look better. My body is grateful for it. Any small or niggling injuries feel better or have gone. My mental focus is better and I'm raring to go again.
The main issue I have with taking a week off (vacation, AAA game release, etc…) is that my diet suffers. I never eat enough, and when I go back to my routine I feel like crap and it takes a few days to get my appetite back.
Lolol that's funny that you mentioned video games. When I get deep into a game (mostly long a** RPGs) it definitely jacks up training. Not necessarily for me because of my actual work outs or diet, but specifically my sleep.
If by the time I'm done with all my responsibilities and it's already like 9pm, then when I start up that game I just know my sleep is gonna be the shits that night. Add that up multiple nights a week and it takes a toll lol. I'm tryna manage grad school, lifting, cooking, & Persona 5 right now. Once I start my dissertation I might break 😭😭😭
Every 4-5 months I take one week off. The recovery is amazing
I take 1 week off every 5th week
Got my 4 wisdom teeth out on Thursday so this video helps alot... one week is not a big deal im just so attached to my morning weights routines.. thanks
Ive missed these last 2 weeks due to being sick with COVID. So, this video comes in handy
Hope you feel better.get well soon.
@@shaymc1977 I’m feelin good now. Just need my taste and smell back haha thank you!
did you workout while you had covid?
@@MegaUtube99 Hope you Are big now
2 weeks is a big deal you'll lose muscle
Simple answer no. I've noticed that if every few months I take 4-7 days off completely when I return i recover faster. ALSO...i notice that within the week off and the following week I return I notice more growth. its not placebo either. Sometimes without realizing it Especially once you reach 30, you aren't recovering as well as you think you are.
i took a week off randomly due to laziness but i was lifting heavier when I went back because my muscles had sufficient time to repair.
When I was younger if I felt like I'd plateau'd I'd take a week off and more often then not when I came back after a week I'd be a hair stronger and see some strength gains. I injured my back a week ago training and haven't exercised in exactly 7 days so this video was perfect timing.
I have an inguinal hernia operation coming up, and I won’t be able to workout for 6 weeks in November. I just lost 132 lbs, and it’s got me nervous that I’ll gain back some of the weight and lose what little gains I’ve made. I just plan on keeping my diet in check the entire time. That’s about all I can do besides walking.
You’re diet definitely will be the most important thing…..try to keep your anxyin check……and walking will do wonders for sure
The timing of this video is perfect. My joints and muscles have been becoming increasingly sore, beyond the usual. Difficult to move throughout the day. Going to attempt a week off with consistent cardio to maintain health. Hopefully this works out 💪
I take a week off when i need it . When I’m burnt out , my joints hurt and i just dread training . I’ll catch up on sleep . I’ll do flexible dieting and keep calories little lower but protein about the same . I find this better mentally for me vs doing a de load week . Been training 35 years so the week off does me good !
Got a hemorrhoid,it sucks
I trained consistently for the past 6 months with just Sundays off so I think I can take a 10 day break now
I've been injured for three weeks and can't train... I did two series yesterday, i feel a bit sore today... in terms of muscles I think i didn't lose any, but i've noticed that I sleep better and I eat shittier :) I believe that missing a week every 6 weeks is optimal... Also, I read a study that wit age you have to train more just to keep the same amount of muscles...
In my experience u start losing strength and power around the 4 week mark
I’m recovering from a wisdom tooth extracted and can’t lift for like a week! Glad to know all my gains aren’t gone 😂
I overtained had to look up this video to make sure it was ok, taking the next days off, remember folks listen to your body😂💪
From my experience, yes. My body type puts on muscle very quickly but once I lose consistency with eating enough and training stimulus the gains go just as quickly as they came.
Total stress on the body = working out + everyday moving and exercise (walking, yardwork, housework, etc.) + mental stress from my life. If all of this combined brings me a week where I'm exhausted, I take time off until I'm not. A week off has never hurt me, either when I was a long distance runner, or a weight trainer. The body speaks loudly. I listen.
My grandma is in the hospital, I can't afford the time or the money to gym rn .. I have a bad metabolism.. will I lose something?
I’ve noticed that if I go week after week after week without missing, my arms will eventually be slower to recover. That’s when a week off from upper body training allows me to recover and give the joints and tendons a rest.
Pushing muscle, tears down muscle tissue. A week off gives oyur body time to REPAIR/HEAL those micro tears.
Yes I lost 100lbs on squat and deadlift. About 30 lb on bench 3 year powerlifter here 64kg BW
I’ve fallen sick and have only worked out for about 1 and a half month. Hopefully I won’t be sick for a week but this really feels like a downfall. I work out about everyday a week for 1 hour, maybe sometimes I skip 1 or 2 days at most but
Personally i think takimg 3-4 days off every 3-4 weeks is good to fully recover..but im only an intermediate lifter
I just came back from vacation…and my peers are saying I look “smaller” hopefully I get my size back :/
I took 4 days off and when I go back ti the gym I feel so much stronger, if I keep going without taking multiple days off I a row I don't get these gains. 1 day off doesn't make any change but a few days off I come back way stronger
Keep it up
When ever I’ve been sick maybe once or twice a year and I’ve missed a few days of my normal routine or even a whole week I weirdly go back stronger . I like to run too and i feel so much stronger and faster because nothing hurts 🤣 I wonder if maybe it’s because I’ve given my body chance to recover from the beating it normally gets hehe 🤷♀️🤣
Needed to hear this just came out of hospital from pancreatitis and was told I should take the week off and was worried about losing gains
I find that taking a break after about a month of training helps so much! And allows my body to fully recover and I think it helps me mitigate injury
Honestly given how hard I train I’ve noticed that sometimes my body desperately needs that rest. Only time I do it is when I feel like I’ve injured myself or pushed too far. I always come back feeling stronger and more able to lift.
Glad someone asked this question!
I take a week off every 3 to 4 months. You don't lose any strength or size. You just give your body time to recover
But Is it true, when going to the gym, outside. When you have no coat, on. Going in a cold weather, like when you are walking, when leaving the house, will you catch, a cold.
Think of the week off as CNS recovery
I seem to get stronger by resting four days and only working out 3 days a week.
It totally depends on how advanced the athlete is and how intense the weight training is .
I have found 4 weeks super intense powerlifting and 1 week off has worked well.
It all comes down to trial and error
cns need rest every couple months . If you feel tired all the time and recovery is not like it should be 5-7 days off will only benefit You
Whenever we go on vacation for a week or two I always have a hard time getting back into it . That’s even with us walking a lot so it’s not like I’m not doing anything. I need consistency I guess .
I really need the mental break so I'm only taking 3 days off a week is too long
After workin g out 4-5 days/week since January 1, I'd feel weird skipping an entire week
I don’t organise my breaks. If you listen to your body you’ll know when to call a break.
I find 4 to 7 days off twice a year keeps me fresh. Sometimes your body needs a good rest to fully recover the cns, joints, tendons and mental health aspects.
Bare in mind I’m 100% consistent with training, close to if not more than 90% on top of my diet and recovery. So If you’re not at a point of consistency i.e. can’t stick to a training plan, takes long breaks, bad sleeping and eating habits then you’re really just kidding yourself.
My guess is probably wouldn’t want to take less than 2 weeks off a year and probably 4 weeks might be most ideal.
On the maximum side….probably 12 weeks or one week a month would really start to eat at your gains/performance.
One week a month isn't bad and when I say week, I mean like 5 days off. if every workout you are pushing to failure on just about every set, then a break of 5 days or so would really allow all muscles to stop being sore, give your joints a break and to really repair and then go back in the gym and hit it hard for another bout of intense training
I had to skip a week and like a day cuz I got covid and now that I'm back I feel like I've lost all my progress bruh, I might be crazy but my muscles seem smaller and i now need to stop during sets cuz I just can't lift my normal weights, this is so frustrating and it fucking sucks
Do you think it's because you couldn't train for a week or because you're still recovering from Covid?
@@MomoSimone22 both, covid definitely messed up my endurance
I'm going back to the gym after a week of being sick. It sucks because I was going to go last week on a Monday but during the middle of school I was starting to feel a bit off so I made the decision not to and sure enough I kept getting worse. Now I'm better and will be going today. I'm just hoping I can still lift the same weight that i could before.
when I take a week or two off I drop a little bit of weight. when I get back at it, it feels like newbie gains again 💪 😁
Curious if anyone tried taking a week off after every 3 weeks? I've heard many people say a week off every 12 weeks is good but I have not heard a week off, every 3 weeks.
I take week off always after 5 weeks of training (hate to go into the traffic for 20-30 minutes workout lol) Never noticed significant difference compared to light training. I was even more rested if I really pushed it last meso. And 2 or 3 times a year I even take 2 week break.
Starving and no workouts. Too many of you.
Hell no, you will not ❗❗❗❗
I’m actually thinking about taking the first week of 2024 off. Give my CNS a chance to reset.
I took 3 days off and felt 'heavy" when I went to work out.like I had to work harder.
I took a week off and was barley benching 200lb. I went back the following week and started benching 225lb 230lb so yes taking a week off does wonders especially if you want to lift heavier every month.
Bruh you for real, you took a week off and your bench went up 25 lbs? Maybe I ought to try this
Every 12 weeks i do a "deload week"
It takes 2-3 Weeks for Muscle to atrophy. If your consistently training for greater than 3+ Week Periods of time it can actually be quite beneficial to take a full week off. It helps to replenish your Glycogen Stores within the Muscles and allows rest time for Joints and Connective Tissue. There's also the Neurological and Nervous System benefits, over training is a real thing, I have personally hit that wall at least 1 or twice within my life time and trust me it's real. You can over stimulate your Nervous System by training too much and it can become numb to the effects of training. Taking a full Week off is not only not harmful to muscle it's perhaps quite beneficial. The caviot to all this is that doesn't mean eat junk food and go way outside your normal nutrition. If you take a week off but only give your body half the Protein it needs and eat a bunk of junk food ya okay you might be doing some harm.
I no longer feel shame about missing every workout last week because of vacation 😂
I thought taking a week off was bad but i think i hurt my leg trying to keep up with the gym and work just been so burnt out
I lift heavier after a week off
I know this is an older video, but I’ve been sick and out of the gym for a week. Bummed for being sick. Bummed for missing the gym. But hoping next week is better.
All workouts seem boring and sucky to me. I wonder if I should take a week off to get my mojo back
You would lose muscle if during that week you are in a serious caloric deficit, or if youre doing a ton of extra cardio (for example, if someone went long-distance hiking for a week with small backpacking meals). Yes?
I'm consistent even on my diet, it just that I'm afraid that I'm going to lose EVERYTHING even if I'm just like ONE day (monday to friday) without gym.
Man i skip two weeks because of exams 😭😭😭😭
You’ll be ok
Only second month of training, haven't missed a workout, but i cought the corona virus, and had to skip this whole week. Will it be too bad for the newbie gains i've made? 😐
I hate the morning gym (5am) but it's the only time I can get it in. Going do really is affecting my sleep so I'm strongly considering 5 weeks in and 1 week light. Going in at 6-630am instead of 5am for a quick cardio session.
I am gonna take a week of due to piles/haemorrhoids. The question is, should i keep taking creatine during the week off or miss it for the week
Yeah i had to miss a week cause I had to do interviews to work at the gym I go to and i was worried I lost muscle lol
I'm taking a break to save money and have fun .....besides my job is a good workout
Now I feel better for only working out 3 times this week since walking to my gym and back takes about 3 hours
I like 3 weeks on 1 week off. Also, after that week off I go in and its easier to get that soreness in the muscle. I'm 56 though so maybe its an older guy thing.
I'm guessing this is a genetics and age thing as well. A younger man with great genetics can probably go and go and go. I also like how my muscles look when they aren't as hard. They kind of look fluffier (for lack of a better word..lol) and more full.
It’s a nice breather for your joints and if you really enjoy it you shouldn’t have a problem getting back on track anyways!!!
Diet is my problem when I do take off a week I’m not giving my body the proper nutrition
Hm, I get anxiety and depression on my rest weeks, but I feel like the king of the world all other weeks 🤔
I’m here for it!!! 💪🏾💪🏾
I do a lot of stretching, calisthenics, and weightlifting for months now and after taking a break for a week, I cant do forward spine stretch
What about 50 year female. I'm pretty lean and muscled.
I took a week off recently and my bench press PR dropped so hard. Feel so weak
Took a week off bc I was overtraining I hurt my back and right knee
i was sick so i dident train and i will start again on monday. Bro i feel like i lost it all.
I take off a week every three months, and i train 4 days a week. Give the tendons amd joints a chance to heal/rest
So what the study shows is that we still don't know how much training is actually the upper limit for additional gains. Well, maybe one day we'll figure it out.
Thank you 😢 I’ve been sick for a week and I feel like a piece of garbage 😭
This is good to hear. I did something to my left arm. Cant' even do a hammer curl right now without feeling a sharp pain. I was wondering if I should cease working out for a week but always afraid to lose muscle. Looks like taking a week off won't impact me.
Same here bro , my shoulder and elbow hurts but I don't wanna stop working out
Im in the same boat!! Thinking of taking 1-2 weeks off to let it heal, it hurts during any heavy curling movement, especially once I let go of the weight. How did it go for you? Is it gone?
well shiiiiit. I guess if i up my workouts from 1/4 to 3/4 weeks, I'll finally be consistent enough for long term gains.
How often do you guys in the comments switch up your routine?
Every 3 weeks
you should probably stick to a routine for at least 2 months if it's a very bad routine and it's giving you issues, but if the routine is fine you should probably stick to it for something like 4 months at least
switching routines constantly isn't beneficial. You can make small adjustments specially with the isolation exercises but overall should just stick to it
3-6 months
Cool thanks for the input!
I’m very consistent in my workout routine ,but being sick for a week gets a toll on you.
WoW! that's amazing! make sure that you get all the important foundations for a healthy body before you get started on overtraining. otherwise you mmay just need to up the reps by some confusing amount.
I train for 8 weeks then take 1 week off and it’s brilliant. You come back reenergised and give any pains or niggles time off to recover.
Ok, but no need to be racist about it Mate.
I am scared I didnt train for 1 week and i am so scar3d bro
Rest is key.
💯
Will i lose muscle?
You won't lose muscle, only your pamp can fall but you get it back in 2 workouts
Thank you for this video! I lift 6 days per week and have to take a week off to recover feom surgery.
Good luck!
It’s how I go back
Mindpump return messages please.
Hi big fan from you guys from srilanka,I just want to know how much protein in raw chicken breast 100g and how much protein need for skinny fat guy (Im 5 ft 9 and 69KG) ? thank you.
Im 5'8 75kg i eat around 120-150g of protein. 1.6g/kg of bodyweight is good enough. So you would eat around 110-140g of protein would be a good range.
I’m 5ft 8 and 90kg with athletic/muscular build. I consume 2,450cals per day and in that my target protein intake is 245g per day, 81g fat (peanut butter/85% cocoa dark chocolate/almonds) and 185g carbs (oats/bagel/rice).
Train hard/correctly and consistently with a good training plan, sleep well and eat well…it’ll all come together…it just takes time…that’s what you have to remember. Drop anything sugary and aim
To have your carb intake prior and post workout. Use the fats (peanut butter/dark choc) as your energy source throughout the rest of the day. Good luck.
