    Hi. Thanks so much for your excellent video. I am a mum with children with special needs and I wanted to fix their Joy Con Controller by myself. I watched a few different videos but your video was the best, your instructions were very clear and easy to understand. I was able to fix the controller and now it’s as good as new. Thank you

    Thanks for this! I actually found doing the opposite to be easier... don't removing the charging cable, and do remove the battery tray completely. To each their own! Thanks again.

    I have an issue. At 5:20 in the video, that small ribbon cable holder came apart. I still have the small black piece but I can’t figure out how put back together.

    • @paterpracticus
      @paterpracticus  Рік тому +2

      I think the flip-up top, the black bit, should clip back onto the part attached to the circuit board. It might be worth removing the battery tray all together to get a good look.

    I broke my SR/SL/leds cable because it didn't come out "really easily, just sitting on the contacts"

    • @paterpracticus
      @paterpracticus  6 місяців тому

      The clip is quite delicate and that is easy to do. I believe you can clip the flip-up bit back on (provided it hasn’t actually snapped) but you have to get the battery tray out of the way by unscrewing the other two screws. I can’t remember if any wires have to come out too. That will give you better access and you’ll be able to see better what’s going on - and if anything is actually broken.

    • @paterpracticus

      Is the joy con charging? If not, check that the other cable (6:31) is plugged in properly. That might be also why it isn’t being detected.

  • @chrisrockzo89

    Hello! I tried doing this on my switch because only the SR button had response issues. I just installed a replacement part and the issue persists. Only the SR button is affected. The joycon has not been dropped and has not suffered liquid damage either. What could the problem be?

    • @paterpracticus
      @paterpracticus  9 місяців тому

      Sorry to hear that didn't solve the problem. It is usually down to the fold in the ribbon cable making for a weak connection, but it could be a problem further down the line - perhaps in the socket on the circuit board. I suggest going in again and making sure there isn't any dirt or fluff in the bit where the cable plugs in.

  • @Jackdeans32
    @Jackdeans32 7 місяців тому

    Having trouble at 5:20 of the video. My black clip doesn’t seem to want to latch so the flex cable disconnects from the circuit every time I move my tweezers away, any suggestions?

    • @paterpracticus
      @paterpracticus  7 місяців тому

      Hi. This really is the hardest part of the operation. I suggest trying it out first without the ribbon cable and make sure the clip moves up and down properly. Then, when you try it again with the cable, ensure the lugs either side of the plug are properly over those either side of the socket. The plug only sits on top of the socket, so the clip holds it down onto the lugs, preventing it from pulling out. Hope that helps.

      I just did this repair today as the ribbon on both my left and right joycon had torn where it folds under itself after I replaced the sticks. I found that there is a little recess under the battery holder where you can poke the ribbon cable into, so that it doesn't cause a firm fold. Its a bit fiddly to get it to go in there but give it a go.

      You should be able to find them online. Try searching ‘Tri wing screwdriver’ or ‘Y0 screwdriver’. They are sometimes sold in sets specifically for this repair. Otherwise you may need to get them as part of a specialised screwdriver bit set.
