7:28 I’m guessing several hundred others have caught this and said something about it, but you absolutely DO need matched power tubes in amps such as the 5150, 6505, etc. I mean, you CAN get away with having unmatched tubes, but the amp isn’t going to perform well without a matched set. You at least want the inner two to be matched with one another and the outer two to be matched with one another.
It's great to see you again back on UA-cam! It's amazing how much knowledge you have on stuff like this and how much you are willing to teach others. It's awesome!
Definitely has more bite to it with the new tubes, it's like a slight high shelf on the presence range but more organic than adjusting the dial. Never seen anyone change tubes before, it was really awesome to see it done by such a familiar face! Looking forward to the video where you show tonal differences between players :)
Wow. Getting ready to do this myself. Every now and then my amp will fizzle and the the volume drops dramatically. I cycle the standby switch, and it comes back 90% of the time. I can tap the side of the head (with the power switch) with my hand and it’ll come back the other 10% of the time. Any thoughts on what this could be? Loose wire maybe??? Also, what is your signal path/IR you used to compare the tube sets??? Sounds killer!!!! Thanks man.
I noticed a difference in the tone before and after. The "before" tone was a bit more broader and not as tight but it seemed to have better bass response whereas the "after" tone was tighter and smoother but it was more focused in the midrange. I personally prefer the "before" tone.
Always check bias voltage when changing power amp tubes! This amp is super easy to check and set bias voltage and a simple resistor swap if you can’t get the voltage where u need it. The new tubes sounded more polished, not as brutal of a tone, tighter but the first set of tubes were a lot more fuller of a sound.
I like both of them .. And I really really missed you ... Please filming new videos .. And please I wanna ask you and BVB if you could come to Egypt in 2016 tour I live in Egypt and in all my life I wanna meet you . I hope you answer me what ever what your answer I wanna be one of the people that you talked to that will makes me so happy that I'm reached to one of you ... I love you ❤❤❤
I liked the second one more because I think that the fills on the guitar actually sounded like fills and not just a sound that was ringing out and the main parts did sound tighter which is definetly a good thing to have because then those main parts will sound more separated from the fills. They both are good sounding tones I guess but the second one sounded more studio quality.
Sometimes the voltage is lowered after changing tubes. The companies set it high to sound good but they don't last. But I'm nit touching my tubes. They can hold a voltage and hurt you. That's what the pros tell me. Do not do it myself n I don't know how to bias them either.
I find these videos fascinating, seeing how meticulous and serious you take producing. It gets me very excited for the Thrown into exile upcoming album.
Have a set of JJ's for my 2012 and a set of Electro Harmonix 6l6's with a set of Tung-Sol 12ax7's for my 2008. Anyone know where to find a plate cover for the 12ax7's?
@JakePittsBVB what do you think about Orange? I tried a Hellraiser with EMGs with an Orange and I loved it. The sound is great! Nice and dirty but also extremely clean. I can't really explain the sound. And I like the new tubes better. They sounded louder too. But let me know what you think about Orange! And if you've never tried one before then you should! :P
+JakePittsBVB Hey I'm 13 and ive been playing guitar for a few years now and last christmas my dad brought me a Marshall AVT 275 Combo off of ebay so it was second hand and very cheap for the amp. The seller said it was serviced a few years back with the original tubes. Not too sure what they are. Do you have any advice on how to get cheap good sounding tubes as I wont be allowed to spend a lot of money on them. The amp itself sounds amazing but the tubes are lacking and its bringing down the amps full extent. Thanks Jake ;)
I didn't hear much of a difference, but I've been told replacing the pre-amp tubes can help make the 6505 less noisy. Was that the case with this swap?
Hi sir I just have a question peavey 6505 plus has a serial number which you can identify? If its possible to tell me where it has that number thanks for your instructions nice video thanks .
Sounds the same to me I have a microphonic 12 a X7. I changed one of them out and it still microphone so I'm guessing I have a circuitboard problem or something of that sort. So annoying.
if i would be rich... i would go for second one... otherwise previous one... cuz as u say theres not huge difference... but then again depends on song demand also
Not a negative comment but just for future . Grab the tube by there base NOT the glass lol. You can actually do some unwanted things by pulling on the glass . The glass breaks and you get cut and you lose a good tube. Or you get lucky and the tube comes out fine :) lol. Just smarter to pull on the base of a tube :).
I know nothing about amps and currently have no desire to learn about amps, and yet I am still watching this video in its entirety. I must be going through a special kind of boredom.
me and my brother have a band and I was wondering if you have any feedback. my brother plays guitar and I play drums. my brothers name is jacob and he's really good at gutar. I am a huge fan of bvb
My personal opinion is the before sounded a little more raw and had a nice bite. The new sounded more compressed and smoother. Which in a mix could probably be easier to control and less mixing. Just my opinion.
To me the original set up sounded a bit more "pitchy" if you could understand what I mean. The new guitar tone does seem smoother and I don't hear the "pitchy" tone anymore.
I had to go back and look at the dog a couple times lol, I think my dog is mixed with boston.. and everyone knows youre supposed to hammer tubes in lol
haha dogs got a bad deal when it comes to wiping their ass.. Glad to see you're doing it just like me,,, all wrong. I thought it sounded good each way but the new tubes will certainly be better for you. Just a better set than the Ruby.
@@blacktaimasociety1352 never got an aswer here, but asked Peavey and they said that it is best to always check on new tubes, just in case there has been a change and then biasing would be needed. As far as I've seen, most people just swap the tubes and are ready to go.
Not a big difference at all. It sounds fresh with new tubes because they are new just like having new strings. Tubes DO NOT AFFECT GUITAR TONE! Tone mostly comes from cab speakers, pickups, new strings. Maybe some other minor things. But don’t get caught up in the tubes! Learn from me.
+JakePittsBVB The "After" tone sounded darker to me. It also wasn't as harsh as the first. Like the high end rolled back and everything tightened up. It wasn't a huge difference but it did help kinda take the "fur" off, if you will lol. Both tones were great tho. It kinda was like taking an eq pedal and tightening everything up that way. Can't go wrong with the 6505+ I have the combo version and love it. And I noticed from the video our lead channels were almost identical, setting wise, haha! My mids are at 1 currently and my lows are at 4. Besides volume, they were almost the same. Have any tips on crafting a good clean with the 6505+?
Got a set of jjs got both the 6l6s and 12a7x jjs. I have electro harmonix in them right now and the guy I took it to rebiased it. I thought the power tubes were bad but it was the pre amp tubes. My first tube amp I'm still learning. Hopefully I dont have to rebias it again they are both 6l6s and 12a7x I should be good hopefully lol. Also wondering is electro harmonix is better for the preamp tubes instead of both being jjs. Love the video though.! thank you for making it very helpful.!
I commented to early in the video you did want both jj lol. Electro harmonix are good too but jjs are great though both sound good though lol. I guess I'm doing something right because settings are almost identically literally just hairs off on like two settings you have your presence resonance alittle higher tho but yes love your tone dude and your dog too we got two black cocker spaniels very cute dogs love little dogs they are way better around music equipment. But yes loved this video.!♡
problem solver video man thanks alot.btw i have a question about my head 6505 + When everything like speakers or anything that can produced sounds from output of head is silent(or muted) and im continue playing guitar I hears exact same note and chords from inside of head not so clear like a pure signal but fuzzy and its like exact same note or chord. is it normal?? And its getting more clear when tube amps are in good heats thanks again
Waking up to a new video from Jake was a pretty great way to wake up.
True
True haha
Coming back a year later and this videos a life saver, I appreciate this.
- I don't like ruby tubes cause they sound like shit, I'm gonna change them to JJs.
(saw JJ lable on preinstalled tubes):
- They sound great.
Ok.

You made it look so easy that I want to do it now lol just bought this amp today and its beast ! Great Tutorial bro.
Power tubes are easy. Preamps, depending on the amp, can be tricky.

Is it just me that watches these because they miss Jake but actually have no idea about this stuff??? 😂
lol nope I'm the same exact way xD
yayyyy I'm not alone in my weirdness :P
Realeat Of Unicorns
I couldn't tell any difference.
I know this is out of content but I'm going to steal your dog watch out
Jk not really love u tho😻😹😺😸
Isn't touching tubes with your bare hands a bad idea? :/
can you share a link to download your kemper rig that used in your song called "in the end", thank you so much
I also need it, thank you so much

Please Answer!

My 6505+, the volume will drop then come back. I’ve cleaned the return and send jacks and have a cord run also. Anybody have any solutions?

It'd be pretty sweet to see vlogs of the album productions. How you go about mixing and such. Yes.
I like the original set, before the change as i think it had more grunt by a slight amount, never the less a great sound, great amp.
EH sound better for me ! I have NEVER liked JJ tubes unless pre amp 12ax7 in a Peavey Rockmaster all tube pre amp rack mount !

hi jake, did u ever played the ''copy'' of the 6505 - the bugera 6260 - ? it says, much cheaper, but still the same sound and stability. matthew

The new setup sounds really good. It definitely makes it sound more smooth. It's a good setup.
Where is the link of you and your bud playing the same song on the same amp but showing how the sound is "All in the Hands" comparison?
nice video 👍👍
I like you Jake Pitt
I from Thailand
Hi sir I just have a question peavey 6505 plus has a serial number which you can identify? If its possible to tell me where it has that number thanks for your instructions nice video thanks .
muted chuggage with new tubes is not so... chuggy but definitely sounding crispier
Really hard to tell over computer speakers. I'm sure there in the studio the difference was more noticeable. Too close to call.
Sounds the same to me I have a microphonic 12 a X7. I changed one of them out and it still microphone so I'm guessing I have a circuitboard problem or something of that sort. So annoying.
I just purchased a peavey valve King 2 and love it.
SkelIington..... i just traded my VK2 in for a 6505+...... i liked the vk, but the 6505+ is a beast

i agree with you, the jj's and electro harmonics sounded better. i think id be able to differentiate better if i was physically there though
My personal opinion is the before sounded a little more raw and had a nice bite. The new sounded more compressed and smoother. Which in a mix could probably be easier to control and less mixing. Just my opinion.
Dude please upload more often on your channel your fucking epic mate
To me the original set up sounded a bit more "pitchy" if you could understand what I mean. The new guitar tone does seem smoother and I don't hear the "pitchy" tone anymore.
+JakePitts when are you guys coming back on tour? And are going to be in Cincinnati any time soon? ~Siberia
I had to go back and look at the dog a couple times lol, I think my dog is mixed with boston.. and everyone knows youre supposed to hammer tubes in lol
Only really noticed difference during chug parts.
haha dogs got a bad deal when it comes to wiping their ass.. Glad to see you're doing it just like me,,, all wrong. I thought it sounded good each way but the new tubes will certainly be better for you. Just a better set than the Ruby.
I am told touching the tubes directly with your hands can ruin the tubes. Is this false?
just wondering, are your 6505+ made in china?
Thanks for thes video Jake! Ur the Best guitarist in the World!
I liked the after tone better in my opinion but can I ask if ull do some game videos like black ops 3 or something when having free time
Which amp you recomend to us or which is the one that you like the most? Of the ones you already have.
so is there a way of replacing the tubes without taking the motherboard out? lol
bro amazing i cant believe im just now finding you!
They don't make much of a difference if you are talking about in a mix
sounded more together with the jj's it's hard to expain but it just kinda sounded more clean xD
Agreed 👍🏻
it's awesome, can't wait for all the new albums you're producing and bvb5 obvs xD
I like to mix and use different preamp tubes ehx are awesome tubes
Why cant i find anywere to buy his signature shechter (the one with the bvb inlay)
Is noone going to address that JJ makes Ruby? 😂🤣
LMFAO fuck thats funny ass shit lolol......lol still laughin...heh
I'm 69th person who liked this video 😅
I liked it after gave the amp a better chug sound to it and sounds cleaner and tone was great .
also... sounded better before in my opinion but close as you say
Have its a heavier tone, not as scratchy distortion with the ones you had on. I like the change
have you ever think about move to another place that bigger than this one ??
I tough you weren't supposed to touch the tubes with your hands
I think it sounds great before and after, but I can hear the difference.
Why don't you upload very much anymore?
They both sound great but why use a boost to try and hear a difference?
I liked the after more, it sounded cleaner and more put together to me.
The sound with the new tubes was more clear...
New set up was more smooth and crisp. Liked it a bit better.
Power tubes changed no need Biasing?
Would this apply to a Peavey Ultra Plus?
For the god sake guys , make new songs as soon as possible for us :/
I think the second set up, seemed like there was some better note definition
is there a way to put less power tubes in or something to cut down the wattage
Jake when coming out BVB5
i thought both sounded good, the after one sounded just a bit better
why did my amp blow when i changed them ?
The new one is wayyyy better since it sounds cleaner and has a heavy tone
there boths awesome tones, but i like the new one
What's your opinion on Mesa amps?
I thought that the new tubes sounded cleaner
hey Jake! im new to the 6505+, I have a question: after swapping the power tubes, is there a need to adjust the bias? thanks man!
do you have the answer maybe now ?

Sure they do. Not nearly as much as a lot of people believe. But of course they do to a point
Why are the guitar strings stuck together?
OMG! Jake's not dead! Yay!
Jake, can you do a guitar lesson on stolen omen?
Is a peavey 6506 mh a good head?

Jake, could you do a studio vlog?
😄😄😄 jake youre perfect xxx

Pooya Moradi your tubes are microphonic, you need to get new tubes!
I like the second one better
what about biasing it???
