I recently got an S90D and I'm having obnoxious issues with audio dropouts using a Sonos arc soundbar. Another tip most people are missing is to disable HDR in Netflix settings. Some contents look 100x better (brighter & more colorful) in SDR. Try that with Carry On , you will be surprised. And you won't need to use all these settings that make the picture less accurate.
SDR will be more consistent, that's for sure. But HDR looks better than accurate SDR, I would never use that. However, juiced up SDR on these QDOLEDs is like HDR
Aside from the mono, I think the mic sounds good. The only way to improve the sound would be to deaden the reflections in your room with acoustic treatment panels. But that's much bigger project. As for the mono, are you recording into an audio interface? Maybe when creating a new track there is a stereo option that will just read 2 channels of the mono signal from the mic.
@@plasmatvforgaming9648 Sounds about right, looks like you have a nice condenser mic, that will be recording mono by nature, so you will have to use the recording software to bounce or export to the mono to stereo. Maybe make sure you are recording to a mono track when you create a new track. If you are making a stereo track when creating a new track one channel will be left empty!
Did you check out Dolby Vision content like the Apple TV app? I know Samsung doesn't support it, but on my C2 it was extremely dim at first with really bad highlights and no way to change to HDR10 or SDR. As far as I understand, the app doesn't know the max brightness of the device and default to 4000. And there seems to be no way to adjust this like you can with HDMI inputs. After playing around with settings I figured out that vivd picture mode with same settings is brighter than every other mode. Still had to use DTM and automatic contrast to get a bright picture that is still watchable with some daylight. It does look noticale better than HDR10. Especially the detail in dark areas is really impressive. The TV show "Slow Horses" has some of the most impressive HDR I have seen. Tons of reflections and night shots with different light everywhere. Looks so much more impressive than any movie I have tried. Sorry for the info dump.^^
Question, can you actually play in different pictures modes with allm on besides game mode? Also with your contract enhancer and active in Netflix, does that release the 1500 nit peak?
I don't know if you've made a video about gaming HDR settings, but would you recommend using the native or custom colour space? I can't tell which one looks better
Would you recommend the S90D for a “set and forget” TV for the family to watch Netflix, Disney+, Prime TV, Hulu, etc. through a streaming device? I am between splurging for the S90D and saving $500 with the QM851G. Looking for your experienced opinion. Thanks for the enlightening content!
I haven't tested the QM8, but I've seen the reviews and know the specs. My only concern is near black crushing reports. I'd say give that one again, try, and most likely, everyone is going to be blown away. It is ridiculously brigh. If you don't like it, the S90D (QDOLED 55, 65, 77" in the US) should be perfect

Hey Ariel, I have another question regarding QD OLEDs vs WRGBs. I think I found the word you were looking for when describing QD OLEDs. It's 'depth'. I don't have a plasma but I have a CRT monitor, and it definitely has more depth compared to my C2 which looks more flat. I know you also have a CRT, so I'm really curious if you see that added depth and if it's similar to your plasma & QD OLEDs. By the way, motion interpolation is a crime! Just kidding, but think of movies shot on film (causes film grain) and low framerates like some genres of music: an acquired taste. Experimental music might sound 'bad and wrong" at first, but there's artistic intent behind the sound, and you can start to enjoy it after listening to it a few times. Also, the black bars are caused by the footage being in a wider aspect ratio. Directors target cinema projectors (they don't display black bars) and the wider aspect ratio is considered to be way more immersive, while 16:9 is usually reserved for tv shows. 16:9 was picked as a standard just because it happened to be the average aspect ratio of different standards across the globe at one point.
This is a misconception The problem with interpolation is the artifacts Gio ahead set your CRT to 72hz and do on:off:off BFI with smoothvideoproject to simulate 24hz flicker It will be very flickery but you will notice that 24fps@24hz on crt looks like interpolation with no artifacts Now the points about film grain and aspect ratio are just unreasonable There is a reason many choose to shoot on film stock and maybe even 16mm film and that's for aesthetic reasons Not every director wants their movies to look like sterile boring reality you get with digital At that point you're competing with reality itself and you may as well just go outside and get the real thing instead
About low fps motion, I think it is objectively bad and just a limitation of the past that has become a standard. Total nonsense imo. Now, film grain can be an artistic intent, and I don't have to like it. It is a big problem because if you don't like it you're screwed because almost every movie has it. It has become so common that it is almost a standard, and it objectively damages the clarity of the content. Black bars are also too common, most people suffer the screen real state loss, and that's not good either
Actually, the problem isn't the tv settings,I agree with what he says, Creator's intent quality is all over the place.some content have ugly color grading or lifted blacks that washout the picture
@plasmatvforgaming9648 That's why you always have to go in your settings. Because it's all messed up and nothing looks good. Also, how can you complain about film grain? If a movie is shot on 35mm film, you will have grain, which gives you the detail in the picture. Those are basically all movies before the year 2000.
QDOLED has superior picture quality and it is not even close. LG has the best settings and calibration controls. Probably even better processing. But I would buy the S90D over the G4, let alone over the C4
@plasmatvforgaming9648 Go to the display settings in your Fire Stick and disable HDR and then Compare the exact same shows/content in SDR versus HDR. It’s counterintuitive, but SDR will look brighter, way more vibrant, and more impactful. Most people don’t believe this until they see it for themselves, but SDR almost always provides a vastly superior image to HDR. Most people can never even try this because modern TVs do not allow you to disable HDR. Everyone I have told to do this experiment ends up completely disabling HDR on their new TV. Try it and let me know what you think.
