As a gal who listened to the Beastie Boys in high school, this one always makes me smile. 'Lyrical tantrum' is probably one of the best descriptions I've heard for when Ren goes off like that. Love it!
The ending scene where they get kicked out of the grocery store is a fun nod to the Beastie Boys. They got kicked out of a subway for filming without permission.
This video was shot in the same month as "murderer" but was released WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY earlierer.
I saw Kriss Kross at Wembley, supporting MJ on his Dangerous tour. That night MJ failed to appear so Kriss Kross were the only act I saw. This song is great fun. I saw your surprise when you realised you'd missed this before the album launch. A great Spotify add.

Ren said yesterday he wrote this in 2015. So glad he used it on this album, but it makes me wonder about all the songs he’s scrapped!!
I added this song to my Beasties playlist & I find I never even notice it’s Ren. 😺

I suspect he doesn't fully *scrap* many songs if there was a kernel of something in there that pulled him into working on them for any amount of time. I bet he has hard drives full of bits of beats and raps and guitar parts that he was really excited about, that he just couldn't turn into something he was happy with *at the time.*
I think he'll continually be delving into his musical "scrapbook" to re-visit things he once set aside if he couldn't work them any further at the time. In 2023, especially for an artist who is as immersed in the *production* (ie, recording) of his music as Ren is, I bet he has an awful lot of stuff he's fooled around with over the years, saved (hopefully with backup, too...)

Ah, yes! Love me some Beastie Boys. Have them on my play list. I'm from Florida and Beastie Boys were a must play driving back and forth to the beach and while there. Good times. Until the day Ren released the Sick Boi album track listing last month-ish, I had NO IDEA that some of the amazing tracks we ("we" = those of us who found Ren when "Hi Ren" took off) all discovered through "Hi Ren" that I thought were part of his *back catalogue* - Genesis, The Hunger, What You Want - were gonna be on the album. Those videos had been released so long before the album was being released, it didn't occur to me that I was gonna get em on Sick Boi!
It was a huge joy to discover that they were a part of the project of this album.

I got to see the Beastie Boys live a couple of times, once as the Beastie Boys, and once in a small venue as Quasar. One of the best concerts I've been too. Such a great night.

The first time I heard this, my head nearly exploded. I was taken back in time to the age of about fourteen when my friend had a bootleg tape of the beastie boys album that had you gotta fight for your right to party on it. We wore the tape out we played it so much 😊❤

Anthony, I am glad you found this.... To me, this was pure fun. I love the passerby's Breaking at the end. Especially Old Dude in the camo pants. The Brilliance of Ren is that it does not always have to be cold - Have some effing fun. Then your cold hits; hit even harder.

I love when Ren gives us Big Fun like this. It's the feel good track of the album, perfectly placed between "Uninvited" and "The Hunger". It was nice to see you enjoy it so much.

OMG I missed the Criss Cross nod. LOL. I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Gabon, Africa in the early 90s- in a village of 500 without electricity- the teens next door were dressing like Kriss Kross and played their music on a boom box that was rigged to run off a car battery. ❤😂
