The actual GT race Acadamy would have had much better results if their racing team had been anyone other than Nissan.
As a gamer and a racing fan, the movie was something which couldn't be described, like the roller coaster of emotions, wish I could watch it again for the first time.
I just watched it now and I already wish I could rewind and watch it for the first time again.

This is one of the few times I've seen an entire movie theater go nuts at the end of a movie. Absolutely fantastic. I really hope we get more video game movies with this type of quality.

Were you at Clifton Commons on cinema day? LOL The theater went crazy at the end. Many jumped from their seat as if their favorite soccer team had scored in the 90th minute to win the World Cup.

Holy crap this movie was actually really good. It really went above and beyond my expectations. I'd highly recommend it and id honestly watch it again
I find that incredibly hard to believe - but the audience reviews are great and Neil Blomkamp is a fantastic director - the trailer just looks SOOOOO BAD.

People like Jimmy Broadbent have shown that you can go from a sim racer to a real racer and do well at it. Glad to see a movie being made about a story like that.

This is based on a real story. The GT Academy was a real thing, where Nissan partnered with Playstation to give top Gran Turismo players a shot at a real racing career, with graduates competing in 24h of Le Mans and GP3 (now Formula 3).

As a GT player, I feel like it will be so easy for me to relate to the protagonist and get immersed in his story. A few months ago I didn't know what to expect from this project. Now I'm excited.

This brought tears to my eyes. I remember playing Gran Turismo to help with my driving lessons. When used with the steering wheel set, it felt as real as it gets and helped me a great deal - held my license for 10 years plus now and this game helped a great deal. Watched this movie and it is awesome - A must-see!

Anyone who's on the fence about seeing this movie, go. It was fucking awesome. I was going in with average hopes for a decent movie, but it actually surpassed them. The actors were great, the editing and cinematography was top notch and the racing was incredibly done. Being a gamer / fan of Playstation only helped my enjoyment, but even if you're not a hardcore gamer you'll find a lot to love here. 8.5/10 for me.

The cinematography and racing scenes were obviously incredible, but I was actually into the story. Fantastic all around.
I just saw the movie and it was EPIC! The soundtrack, the cars, the character literally got me in the driver's seat like when i was a kid playing gran turismo 3 in my Evo! Highly recommended!

I tried watching this last night and turned it off after 25mins. It was so cheesy and way too predictable. Maybe I'll try again another day.
Going so far to take a gamer and let him drive real race tracks is already something. But this is not fiction, this really happens out there and we see another monumental step that is him getting a whole movie about pretty much his life (with more or less action scenes and drama added to it). I cant imagine the rollercoaster this guys been on... Thanks for believing in gamers!

As someone who knew little to nothing about the games and was so sick of seeing the trailer every time I went to see something else,this is by far the biggest surprise I’ve seen all year. While any film that is based or inspired on a true story is most likely more fake than actually true,it’s still a well written film just on its own. The character development and acting is really strong and can get quite emotional. The racing sequences have a unique style to them that remain both intense and fun at the same time. With all that being said,It’s a really well made film based off of a real life story and a video game at the same time. It blends so much together and manages to balance it out quite nicely. Definitely one I’d rewatch many times in the future and hopefully one that doesn’t remain forgotten.

Being honest. I played racing games for years, and a week before my driving test was the first time I hopped in a car. I passed the test. Everything felt so natural. In some sense I can relate to this.

Everyone kept asking me if my dad taught me how to drive, I always reply with "Racing Games taught me how".
Absolute nonsense. Normal driving has nothing to do with racing and the full feel of driving cannot be replicated by a gaming sim. Clutch feel, steering feel, chasis vibrations, sound, engine vibrations, loss of grip, etc... Sims are lacking so much info its almost impossible to think you can translate that into the real world. Youre just full of shit and the guy this movie is based on had formal racing training for months and a lot of previous experience in karting and driving.
Sorry to burst you bubble, but cars are made to feel natural so gaming won't be what made the difference.
You sit comfy, the pedals are where you put your feet, the wheel is in the right place for your hands... otherwise traffic would be a lot more dangerous.

Just saw it today and it was even way better than what the trailer depicts or what I initially expected! The story line, the action, the drama was intense and emotional as well which is what makes this movie so awesome!
I got out of the cinema yesterday, stopped on a bench and cried my eyes out. How many of us actually have something to pour our hearts into, besides just pretending we're living our lives? The only question I'm asking myself now is - which is my race? Probably, a movie that will never let me live comfortably until I find that childhood dream again.

What a great film. I didn't think a movie like this was even possible this year. Definitely Top Gun/Karate Kid vibes. Solid story, surprisingly good performances and completely devoid of the MESSAGE. Nothing really exceptional here but it hits all the right beats.

I just finished the movie and man.. As a gamer myself i was completely glued to my seat. I'ts been a long time since i've shed a tear, or yelled or jumped of joy watching a movie, but this one made it happen. Absolutely phenomenal!

No Gran Turismo game campaign mode has a story of someone who plays the game and becomes a real driver.

Whether you're a gaming fan, racing fan or just a person in general, there is something adrenaline pumping watching cars racing at high speeds incredibly close to each other and the limit. Love the game, definitely looking forward to the movie

Anger, happiness, laughter, crying, falling down and getting up again. Goosebumps from start to finish. This movie is one of the very few in the history of cinematography that has everything real life has to offer, because life itself writes the best stories. And it didn't feel like it was only addressed to the gamers, racers and motorsport fans. Not at all. So many thanks Gran Turismo ;)
Just took my 15 year old (gamer) son to this - what an EPIC, great movie to see with him! Everything about this movie was top quality. the acting, the direction, the cinematography, the music...can't say enough good things about this film other than go see it.

Just saw this film! It was A LOT of fun! I was the only person in the theater, a matinee! lol! It was a perfect movie, IMO! It contained all the right things, and none of the crap things! And it's a true story! That makes it THE BEST entertainment IMO. Thank You all for bringing it to the big screen! 🧡

All Millennials remember GT1 and how groundbreaking it was. Getting the A class license after 100's of hours actually helps with real life driving as well, there were game mechanics so unforgiving it ingrains self control in your head, I feel it when I'm speeding after midnight on the highway.
Gt1 is still my all time favourite , I remember being 13 and staying up doing all nighters with my dad grinding the licences , cup races and endurance races , memory card packed up and we couldn't turn the console off because we would have lost all our progress, the struggles were real back then 🤣🤣

All millennials ??? Millennials are people born between 1981 and 1995. GT1 came out in 1997 Japan and in 1998 Europe & USA. Childhood amnesia (when you cannot remember things) goes up to 7 years old so everything before you mostly do not remember or falsely remember. So your statement is untrue for millennials born after 1991. Mostly Generation X people not millennials bought and played the GT1 game. Cheers.

Having watched Jann's story from the beginning of the first academy trial video, his accident at the nurburgring, and his le mans attempts with Nissan, this movie is very exciting, and very surreal.

Okay, this movie was amazing. THIS is the type of movie you go to the cinema to see. Box-office worthy, captivating and has you rooting for the underdog
My cousin and I grew up on Gran Turismo in the late 90s. It's one of the greatest games of all time. Still remember when we finished it on PS1.
Out of left field. Did not expect this to be dope, and Neil directing means this should be incredible.
He's definitely got at least one more brilliant film in him. District 9 was so good and ever since then he's been on a downwards curve, but this is something new for him, not sci-fi, something real, but that touches on his strong interest in gaming. I'm quite optimistic.

Yeah, all those incredible flops he created after D9. ;) Blomkamp surely is a talented director and sfx artist. But he needs competent script writers to succeed. Those are *very* rare in Hollwood nowadays.
This trailer looks pretty corny so far when it comes to dialogue and plot. Reminds me of movies from the 80s and 90s, where some kid won a contest and suddenly got the chance of a lifetime. So it could work as a throwback movie. But what worries me are the three script writers. Only one of them has delivered more than one successful script so far. The other two are newcomers. One of those two has only one single writing credit - for Ms. Marvel, one of the most cringy shows ever made.
I want this movie to succeed. Love racing movies and would be happy for Blomkamp if his career gets back on track. But well, it's Sony Pictures and Hollywood has been turned into Wokistan. We can only hope they've learnt some lessons from "Top Gun: Maverick".

I played Gran Turismo when I was a kid and it gave me a great appreciation for the sport of European car racing and will always has a special place in my heart. This film looks like it sticks to the source material.

Agreed. Ever since GT Academy show was aired it was a dream of mine to go through something like this. I'm happy YT content creators like Jimmy Broadbent and others are basically doing what this movie is about but in their own way. It definitely makes me appreciate sim racing even more.

@@Outtacontrol304 I've got to agree tbh. The old school GT mode route for a story would've been way more experimental and fun.. they took the easy way out. But GT is like ingrained in me so I'll have to watch it. I still remember booting up GT academy many times, especially the GT6 demo ver.

I saw this as part of regal's mystery movie and I have to say, it was so full of excitement, emotion, heart-racing moments.
Go see this in theatres, it is now my best film of 2023.

First I heard of this was from Emilia Hartford on her UA-cam channel. I've been excited ever since heading about it from her
I watched this movie, and i loved it. The backstories and the way i see myself in the character Jann are so similar to my life.
It basically showed how my life is currently and what i want to achieve. My parents were always either too caring or didn't care about me at all, wanted me to try out different things than gaming that i didnt like, and they thought everything i did was a mistake and my dreams would never come through. After this movie i know to still follow my heart even after everything, because even us gamers and people who don't really have a goal can achieve something just like this.

This was movie pretty damn awesome ! the racing car experience, the nostalgia to the old days of playing GT2 damn, those were the good times. This movie gave me 2 hours of pure enjoyment. loved it and can't wait to be able to purchase it on digital services.
So dope. When I was kid and I destroyed GT2. This was the dream in my head that I never thought could actually happen. Amazing. And what an incredible director. One of my favorites.
I have to admit I’m impressed. When I heard they were making Gran Turismo (a game that I love) into a movie, I was skeptical. But I really like the premise of this movie and now I’m looking forward to seeing it.
After i watched the movie in the cinema, all of the viewers gave a standing ovation to this legendary movie… million time better than the trailer itself.
This story about a real Sim racer is what actually starred online sim racing. In my opinion the Grand Turismo Academy was way ahead of what is happening today , and actually turned gamers into real racers.
This Nissan PlayStation GT Academy started the first challenge in 2008. It was very popular in its day.
There's still a lot stuff going on where Simracers get into real Cars. And it also existed before GT Academy

I like how this looks actually. Just enough to be different and not too far off from how people see the sim racing vs. real world thing. HOPEFULLY the main characters can carry the story as well as the heavy hitters, but I think this is one i'll actually go to the theaters for!

@@joshlumley3851 Well... it's based on the real story of Jann Mardenborough who whon the GT academy and became a professional racing driver (who actually won races). In other words, if you read up on his story, you know the movie. That's the problem of a movie being based on a true story.

I remember watching the documentary on this I was blown away by the fact how radical the idea was and how it paid off hopefully the movie does it justice trailer looks awesome

Very underrated film. I truly enjoyed. Plus it's based on true story.
As a fan of the Gran Turismo game series ever since its first inception, this Gran Turismo movie plays full and proper homage to the series!
The storyline is based on the true story which is simple to follow but most of all sticking very true to the roots of the Gran Turismo game series.
The seemless transitioning between reality and game in the movie that also weaves together beautifully with the storyline makes it easy for any viewer (even non-gamers like my dad).... to understand Gran Turismo... both the purpose of the game and point of this movie.
The movie itself is awesome with the superb directing by Neil Blomkamp and of course solid performances from the ensemble cast consisting of Archie Madekwe, David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Djimon Hounsou, Geri Halliwell Horner and the rest who make this movie a perfectly crafted and charismatic film that not only exhilarates but inspires.
It was a fun, keeps-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat kind of movie with the right amount of emotion from it's storyline till the very end.
But I was emotional not just for storyline here but the way this movie silently pays tribute and makes you appreciate Gran Turismo, racing simulation, racing in general, and of course... cars.
In a world where now everyone pretty much drives in SUVs and sitting in the back of Ubers....this movie will remind you that...
There is still hope,
There is the open road,
There is the spirit of driving,
There is the essence of cars and racing,
And most of all... There is Gran Turismo
So far, it is easily the movie of the year for me. Well done, because this is awesome!

Awesome movie. Just saw it tonight and loved it. Made the game truly come to life and what an amazing story.
Went to see the movie. Loved it. Really fast paced to put all the history in just two hours you barely can blink and eye.
But, even for people who ate not into cars and SIM, would be a good experience to see the movie, because of the true story that supports it.

Nearly had me crying, granturismo been my life since I started playing at 10 years old with granturismo 2 ... I actually qualified for "granturismo academy" with my controller in 77th places with millions players .. but they took just the first 10 😢 I'll watch this movie definitely

As a Gran Turismo 4 fan, I cannot believe this is real. I always kinda had that dream back in the day with GT4, obviously real life is real life, but glad to see a movie out of this "dream" most of us internally have when playing Gran Turismo !!!
I was a reality from 2008 - 2015.
Gran Turismo 4 was the last one I played before switching to PC. Oh my god, the j-rock opera jazz fusion melding into Panama by Van Halen the first time I booted the game on my PS2 as a kid literally made me cry. My grandfather used to street race his bootlegger hotrod against Lee Petty on the upper Atlantic to New England routes back in the prohibition days, so I've been a fan of motorsports my entire life. I'm such a fanatic that I've gone drifting on public roads in FWD cars because I'm just obsessed with motorsports, from JGTC to NASCAR to LeMans to WRC to D1GP to ICS to Gymkhana Rallycross to F1. This trailer is bringing back that overwelling of emotion. I think I need to change my underwear AND get a tissue to dry my eyes. Haven't been this excited about a movie since the last Guardians of the Galaxy installment with Ego. The new one comes close, but this comes closer. I need to breathe lol.

I'm used to seeing a Neill Blomkamp directed feature as being realistic and gritty. This looks realistic and squeaky clean. Nice to see he's not a one trick pony. It's just the way you'd expect Gran Turismo to look. I know Sony and Polyphony Digital must've had a lot of say in the appearance and production of the movie. It's a great collaboration that, so far, looks to really be paying off. Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out...

Wow! What a Great Story! So close to ranking in at a 10 / 10 ! My only reason to not rate it as a perfect movie, is because I wish the cast had resembled the actual people (at LEAST closer), other than that I have NO complaints. HIGH ENERGY! If you love racing, this movie is for you! The sound of the engines is amazing throughout the entire movie. It definitely feels long, but I didn’t want the movie to end. I feel most great movies are longer than the average. Ending on such a high note leaving you feeling like you’re in the celebration! I don’t know much of the original story, so I hope this movie stuck to it closely. The acting was great, the scenes were great, overall a Great Movie!
About time thanks to having waited on the project back in 2013. Couldn't have wished for a better collab, especially with Neil Blomkamp behind the director's chair 🎥😎
