It is tragic that the algorithms have recommended this to me a week after his younger bro also passed on. Such a strong character to handle all these tragedies at a young age.

My elder brother, got entangled with drug addictions, once a very gentle, peaceful and happy guy became a liar, violent, started stealing from us to satisfy his urge overnight. I tried to speak calmly, cried, fought him but all to no avail. I and my parents had to take him to countless rehabs and churches, which most of them took advantage of my moms vulnerability to extort us. After 6 years, we redeemed him but i'm still suffering from the psychological trauma of ever having my family go through such a disgraceful moment, selling all we got, left Nigeria for Euorpe to struggle in the cold, just to spent it on rehabs for years. My relationship with him got affected badly right now, struggling to forgive him but it will happen with time. Pls, my youth. Stay away from drugs, alcohol or any lifestyle that will hurt people that loves you. Don't fall for peer pressure cos when the ship starts sinking, those friends will abandon you to die in the street. If you have any family member going through, pls stay strong and dont give up on them so fast, may God strengthen you and hasten the solution for your family.

"We need to create a safe space for our children to feel confident to talk to their parents". This is so true, suicide and drug addiction are at an all time high in the young of Kenya.

One of the greatest pain as a family is to witness the downfall of a family member especially from addiction or mental health disorder, many time the society is so quick to point fingers accusing the family of neglect yet little do they know the pain, struggle and effort, money and time family of addicts puts. Like Eric rightly said the choice for change depends entirely on the addicts.

Wow thanks for sharing. Here in the US it is so bad, so many Kenyans get addicted due to the need to escape dealing with racism an culture shock. My bro has been addicted for a while, my family back home pretend like he is not, now I’m the bad guy for cutting him off financially and forcing him to go to rehab. One addicted sibling can really tear apart a family or sometimes make them closer. I pray for anyone dealing with this ❤️

I'm currently losing my brother because of drugs. In addition to recently smashing windows and breaking my stuff, he beat me up and I was like wow (had got mad, shouted and complained to him about his drug problem)! Calling home to explain the situation, Dad was not moved. My parents do not want to accept the severity of the situation despite all what I've told them. Now my parents say I'm disturbing them, my brother hates me coz I'm telling my parents about his business. I've since kicked my bro out of the house. I cannot stand seeing him going down the drain under my roof. I've washed my hands and left it to the good lord to handle the situation.#I'mOut

a few weeks before his brother died i remember a thin man of the same stature and dressed in the same clothes that he was found with entered the bus i had boarded in Nairobi on my way to meru and began begging for cash to go and buy medication he had been prescribed to take. from the good english he spoke i knew he was well educated. he said that one dose costed him ksh 200. i felt so sorry for him coz he was shivering and looked so thin and sick. it never occured to me that he was a cocain addict and a brother to kenya's celebrated comedian. so sorry for the loss.
