Vita means "Life support from the community".
And it's damn good.
I'm sure it is for it's community. My interest died with the unveiling event notes detailing the pricey memory format
@@JohnSmith-xq1pz you can use adapter for sd card on cfw, and 128gig one priced near nothing these days
@@nvidia0026 True but any games I'd want to play are at this point on steam etc plus I still enjoy my psp nah I'm good
@@JohnSmith-xq1pz yeah but it’s still cool to run Home console games that can fit in your pocket
@@thathatguy_mp4 oh definitely cool. I just don't have any interest in it, probably in part because I still play my psp regularly and on road trips etc I have my netbook turned ultra portable retro Gaming machine and more than enough dosbox content to play on it.

Lol'd
The PSP and the Vita, the two misunderstood legends, but legends nonetheless. I'm very thankful to the homebrew scene of both consoles.
@@ZuoKalp What do you mean PSP is misunderstood? It was a huge success for Sony's first venture into the handheld market.
@@emperorfaiz I mean that even when they both consoles were revolutionary pieces of hardware when were released, received an enormous quantity of quality games and also gathered an an undeniable economic success (specially during the PSP era), it all fall flat when Sony decided to abandon the handheld market.
I'm truly grateful to the homebrew community for their efforts to convert the Vita in the best handheld ever made.
Why does this make me low-key sad 😥😂
All Sony had to do is try to port a lot of the PS2 back catalogue to the Vita, It worked for Nintendo time and time again
I hope to see a ps2 emulator ... Or some conversion from psn ps2 games
@@MutambaBrazil pcsx2 for pc emulator exists and hopefully play! for android devices will be playable soon
The PSP had alot of ps2 games ported but only in Japanese sadly
Sadly the new Sony hates everything it made in the past
Seeing all the indies making big money on the switch makes me feel sad for the PSVita, as those amazing indie games would be perfect on the vita.
Still love the fact that SONY named it VITA, tried to end it themselves, and yet it continues to live up to its name.
It really is irony. The community's console and not Sonys at this point.
Still alive and strong
The thing that makes the Vita cool in 2021 is the microSD to Sony CrapD adapter for memory
You just saved me some money! Thank you!
for anyone wondering, it's called sd2vita
@Yontek Nohara I bet 512gb SD card for the same price as 64GB Sony memory stick :D
@@jordangogov5866 probably less hahahaha
@@jordangogov5866 Vita memory cards are really sought after nowadays so yeah they're probably more expensive
sony: "That looks like a nice handheld. Why didn't we make one like that?"
No
I bet Sony could have done a slightly better job, too. Get rid of that weird back touchpad, use micro SD cards that are cheaply available, and actually put some game development behind it so there's a wealth of amazing titles to play.
Yep. Sony could have done a lot better job with this than whoever actually made this thing. 😬

If don't hadn't gone with their proprietary memory cards and then jacked the price on those cards up I would have been a hell of a lot more enthusiastic of the vita when it came out.
U can get micro SD adapter
@@alrightylol wait seriously?
Alright. This is looking more sppealing
@@singletona082 it's called sd2vita. Enjoy
Here's the thing, the vita 1000 doesn't have any memory so you need a proprietary memory card to even boot up the thing so buy the lowest size one and mod your vita with it then you'll be able to use a microsd with an adapter (example, for me i have a 8 gigs offical memory card and a 128gb microsd). The vita 2000 has a little bit of memory in it so you don't need to buy an official memory card to use/mod it and you'll still be able to use a microsd after modding. Hope it helps !
@@UnShredded so in other words right from the start the vita was a financial burden to Sony
Vita was ahead of its time. I remember it being a leap forward when it launched.
Best handheld ever with unending game titles and ports. And the physical games here in Philippines is so cheap.
There's also a port of command and conquer red alert. Runs really well on the vita.
@@jajabinx35 wow I will check this one. Thank you.
Sorry to stick my fingers yous guys pudding, but the gaming phone is the ultimate portable gaming device. More powerful, best performance, up to 144 frames per second, while all vita titles are 30 frames slide show Bob 🖼️ 🎞️
What Sony needs to do is port these games to Android and Apple, make gaming saucy like a Boss ☝🏾
@@Keepskatin Shame the controls are hot garbage unless you put some jank gamepad bluetooth contraption on it with inconsistent results. As most games don't have that in mind when being made/ported to a phone. Also I don't know about you but my phone is for work, getting a call or message while it is attached to some godawful controller contraption would be fun. To each their own.
@@Keepskatin lol, and what are you doing here exactly? Go play on your phonr dude and leave the fanbase of the vita in peace!
Why is it always when people are happy about their life, someone has to come and drop the same lame comment: "Oh there is this or that that is soooo amazing and better than what you enjoy."
You know what, we love the vita, we are happy with the 30 FPS, we wnjoy the old-fashioned way of playing games.. so keep your fancy advice for yourself.
Oh and you know what.. I know people who still use the PSP in 2021, but I literally know no one who still use a 5 y.o. phone.. Because these things are real gems that we value and love for what they are, not for their performance.
Successor from the PSP the vita is a solid go to for simple handheld homebrew.
Even for more than simple homebrew.
The hacking/homebrew scene released more ports for the Vita than Sony ever did !
Not true, but i get your point
@@mauryj.3415 Are you shure? You have Quake, Quake 2, Doom, Half life, GTA 3, Vice City, GTA San Andreas, Bully, GTA China Town, and the list goes on. Versus the GoW, Ratchet and Sly collections that Sony made.
Rinnegatamante alone released more ports than Sony
@@josecabre1 sony got ports of Dragons crown, Helldivers, Sly cooper, GoW, Jack and Daxter, Odin Sphere, PS all-stars,p Resogun, Persona 4 Golden, Mod Nation Racers, muramasa, Metal gear HD collection... these were all either made with Sony's help or published by Sony, I know there's way more That I'm missing as well.
@@mauryj.3415 Sony got Persona 4 and MGS Colection? You are giving Sony to much credit...
Vita is such a fun little handheld. Wish Sony would have handled things a little differently.
This is how I feel about most things Sony does. They make incredible products and break its kneecaps odd restrictions and expensive proprietary accessories.
I got the joke
@@shinrasboy They want to be Apple, but didn't know what makes Apple successful. They couldn't even get their divisions to work together, let alone creating a synergistic ecosystem that allows users to feel comfortable while simultaneously being locked in. They half-assed some products they made, like Xperia phones and the Vita.
They couldn't even be bothered to get cross-play and backwards compatibility, something that Microsoft gets right. Jim Ryan is famously against Backwards compatibility, saying that PS1 and PS2 looked ancient and nobody would play them, which is degrading, especially with the awful PS5 launch with most launch titles being remakes and upressed PS4 titles. Comparing it with PS2 launch, it's obvious PS5 is a joke. PS Now isn't even a quarter as good as XBOX Game Pass. It's disappointing, especially as a former PS fan who loved PS1-PS3.
They couldn't run their flagship games on this.
But now that they are interested in mobile games, maybe they can return to it.
But nooo! They had to make the Playstation Mini Classic. Something the Vita can already play. They should have re-release this handheld with assorted available games bundled in.
Really hope the old Android exclusive titles like mobile Dead Space and Mass Effect Infiltrator will get the same treatment. Some of them are not even working properly on the modern phones, from what I remember.
Oh yes. Great stuff. Also Modern Combat 3 is my all time favourite
Awesome, I gave a 1st generation Vita that I absolutely still love. I was always worried about modifying it but you’ve convinced me to do it now, so thanks!
the part i've most loved about getting into the vita is how awesome the homebrew community is. I mean those guys take so much time out of their day to explain every step of the process, and will help out with any issues I'd had at the drop of a hat.
Sony take notes, this is what you should've done when the vita was at its peak, it's really sad of what could've been
Yeah TheFlow was pretty genius for HOW he ported RenderWare games to the Vita. Android and Vita are pretty close in terms of structure and architecture so his method of replacing Android functions with Vita functions is genius. And the code is surprisingly readable too. Bravo 👏
+1 for giving credits to the person making this possible.
Kudos to you.

How does one go about porting an android game to vita? Or any game by that matter

"It runs Bully" will be the next big thing after "It runs Doom".
Quake Arena runs great already
Bully's source code isn't public, so that isn't very likely.
@@steveh2040 The thing that annoys me about the "It runs Doom", is a lot of the time "It" DOESN'T run Doom, they make a much more simplistic FPS, then call it Doom.
No it has to run Skyrim..
But does it run Crisis?
One of the greatest things about this is that this is 100% homemade development, no companies, no game studios whatsoever. Great job.
I mean rockstar made the game so… not 100% homemade.

R* could have done this for little to no money years ago and saved the vita. I always say all vita needed awas a good GTA game to get it going.
I doubt some warmed-over PS2 ports would have made any measurable difference to the lifespan of the Vita.

I remember Vita to have the best mobile GPU at it's time, i think it was even faster than iPad's GPU which was always the top for ultraportable mobile GPU performance.
not quite, since the iPad 2 and the Vita came out the same year and used the same GPU
@@ohnoitschris No they didn't, the iPad 2, had its own processor, the A5. Apple silicon chipset, I think of what you mean that they had similar performance, but chipset no.
The vita gpu is sightly faster than the ipad 3 gpu due to having more memory bandwidth due to using faster ram.

Using my Vita since February and i really love it.
Bully, GTA san andreas, and so many other games coming to light with homebrew. hopefully the added attention pushes Sony toward a new Xperia type phone
Should they? Controller is more comfortable and there are many great options on the market.
As someone who has an Xperia Play, I think efforts would be best spent at making better controller mounts for dual shock and Xbox One/Series controllers. Newer phones have plenty of horsepower and the controllers are more ergonomic than a flat control apparatus, not to mention durability and cost effectiveness for consumers and companies. Game streaming could make this more sensible too, with Xbox already having a service and Playstation too I think With PSNow? OnLive was a decade too early I think.
But it’s more conscience to have a controller in the phone
@@Moop666 not sure what you mean but here are my issues with the XPlay: the ribbon cable between the lower and upper chassis are wear items and it will short out eventually. Replacing the cable requires a clean room-like (near dust particle free) to do properly without getting dust between the display and outer shell. It was also gimped heavily, probably to not cut into Vita sales. 400mb of internal storage was a pale in comparison to the 8GB that phones like the Atrix HD contained. It can't even hold an update to Google Play Services and rooting isn't the easiest on most/any models. Besides that, it would have been out of date in a year.
It could be built more durable, yes, but it'd be easier to make using dual shock and XB O/S controllers work with phones. Even if it were more durable, you can't get past the issue of obsolescence over time. Game consoles see far longer update time compared to phones, even iPhones 😂. Maybe gaming cases like (iirc) the ROG Phone and Razer Phone have would be a better option.
@@IanBPPK No.
The Vita had so much potential. It's almost criminal Sony let it to own in flames.

Just ordered my 1st VITA from ebay last week. I went with version 2.
Because it has 1 gb of internal storage and USB charging. I will admit I'd prefer the heftier oled model 1. To me, the benefits outweighed the liabilities of getting a model 1.
I chose Metallic Red also. To match my God of War PSP and because it's the newest VITA manufactured being as Red and Silver were the 3rd and final wave of colors produced.

Sony really dropped the ball hard with the PS Vita, such a great system.

Hey! Speedrunner and Reverse Engineer of Bully SE (PC) here. It's a shame he didn't talk much to the actual Bully community, as a lot of us actually know a fair bit about the game's code, but it's cool to see it get released.
