I was there! And this is the first time watching the actual show so thank you to the person who uploaded this. Being a part of the Super Drill Team was a great experience! Tiring, of course; nevertheless totally worthwhile. I still have the uniform and now my grandkids can finally see the show that corrolates with it. Thank you again, it's been amazing to watch.
I was waiting for someone to upload this... finally! It was lame but fun. Did not enjoy cold dried out sandwiches they served us as dinner when we had practices. Anyone from Birmingham High here?
My dad forgot to record it back in 1983 and now I finally got to see it. Yikes! But I do remember having so much fun at the practices and at the Rose Bowl! Franklin Strutter❤️
Thank you for sharing this! I was wondering if this was ever recorded -- and it was! Had such a great time participating in this half-time show as part of Granada Hills High School's drill team!!! OMG -- half times have come a LONNNNG WAY!!!
I was there with the Los Angeles All District (All City) Band! We preformed the pre-game show. This the first time that I am seeing this "halftime show" and quite frankly, we had a whole show with familiar tunes. During halftime we had to stand in various isles all around the stadium holding up the cards you see holding up. All most participated, it was not an entertaining show at all. It was made for TV as you can see, so it was just an announcer instruction the crowd when to hold up various colored cards while the Los Angeles Unified School District Drill Team moved various colored banners on the field. The cheesy synth music played but it was low in the background so the crowed could hear the announcer. It was actually quite boring, and I see that the TV product was far more boring. But i still had fun! How many people can say that they performed in a Superbowl halftime show!😁😎👍
This was the year that was so bad, they had singers the following year and every year after. This musac was great for a bathroom break. But it was the last year they had music without singers.
this was I believe the last Super Bowl Halftime Show that featured an actual marching band/drill team as it's main part of the show. They'd go far bigger budget after this one.
I timed that. It took 10 seconds for them to realize it and another 18 seconds to restore the presentation. What is with the ye olde black dial telephone! You would think that the Rose Bowl would offer a touch-tone!
Maybe some people don't like Rock, or country or pop, or Latin, or music at all maybe some people just want to see the game but damn before you throw up ghetto rap shit at least know what ghetto means it's not the music smh
@@shaneequiairving One man's art is another man's trash, and vice versa. All music has value of some sort. 1990's ganstar rap sold millions of units so it was the art of the time. If you don't like it. nothing wrong with this, but it wasn't the popular view back then.
1. They should’ve told the TV audience in advance, “Here’s 12 minutes of your life you’ll never get back.” The TV coverage of this was awful, with the accidental shot inside the booth being the high point. I watched this for perverse entertainment. 2. I think the producer of this went on to produce the Rob Lowe/Snow White opening to the Oscars.
I think this is one of those shows that had to be seen live and in person to be fully appreciated. You lose a lot of the effect of this type of show when transferring it to TV or video. I think that is the reason why I didn't enjoy this one as much as some of the others.
So cool

I was part of that Super Bowl!! Class of 83 GHS! Best drill team days. It was so much fun running around with those umbrellas.
I was in this show (and part of a local high school drill team). Wow, they've come a long way since then. Thankfully!! LOL
I was there too. I was a drummer in the All City Band!🥁
I was there too... it was lame but at least get to say I was a part of the SUPER BOWL HALF TIME SHOW.
I was too! Which school? I attended Huntington Park High. Great memories!
Super Bowl Saturday, was still one of the busier shopping days back then. Always has been from what I'm aware of.
2:09 Oops.

I was there performing. I'll never forget this, the costumes, running in and out of the stadium. It was fun.
Wish I kept my cheap customes as souvenirs...

I was there in the band drummer!
Thank you for sharing. It was a fun and great experience of my high school days. It was great to watch it.
I was in the show also. Our school was Carson High. I am laughing so hard. What were we doing.
Had a great time doing this.. I was a freshman at San Pedro High..

I was there one of the performers. What a wonderful day
So was I a performer!!!

They did not pay us a dime... all we got was cheap custom and cold dried out sandwiches for dinner during the practices!
I performed there😺😺😻
I was there and yes it was pretty lame. I still have my multi colored prop however.
I was there too
Dont jodas, the thing is pretty good, better than the katy perras sxxtshows.

Me three~
Announcing the show is the then "Voice of Disneyland and Walt Disney World" Jack Wagner
The same in XXI
2:08 - did the director fall asleep? Out drinking late the night before? This was on national TV?

While this one is not my favorite, I enjoy watching the old-school halftime shows from the early years of the Super Bowl.
I am sooooooo confused, why did they do this, what is this, what drugs were the creators on?
The Strong Drugs, it was the 80's
I think there were beta drugs involved.
Not as strong as the drugs katy perras shows.
That cheesy 80s synth sound is strong here!
Along with the occasional pitch-bend slider.. Totally Rad!
I don't know what i just watched but for 1983 it was good by those standards
Hey back then just having a TV was cool.
Simpler times . Not what it is now . Took me back to my childhood. 🙂
Much simpler times. I was playing with my ball in a cup as I watched this.
Old Super Bowl halftime shows were better than the sxxt shows of katys perry and all other babuchas out there.
This show was designed to entertain babies. Not much to it.
Almost no one has autism, body dysmorphia or psychotropic drug prescriptions..
How did they survive..!?
Nice.😁.😁.😁.
Better than the ghetto rap shit they had with snoop, dr dre, and the other hacks!
Ok boomer. Like flip cards and kaleidoscopes are entertaining, really?
@@jPHQ More entertaining than rappers

This would be pretty dang neat if it was cleaned and re-mastered.@@timothysprengeler4071
That shot of the booth lasted for a whopping 28 seconds! Were there only just 3 cameras used for this show?!
