I Love the Dane Axe aka Viking Axe!!.. they are not only Handy and Beautiful but they can protect you from a Charging Bear. Definitely the Viking Axe, Knife, Sword and a good solid Spear wre fundamental.for a Warrior, Survivalist, outdoors Man, mountain Man. I would also add a good bow and arrows. And all.the typical none bladed things for survival. I would mention guns, but once you are out of Amo that is it, a gun is not much help without amo. A good Axe and a good knife is all you need, with them you can make spears, bow and arrows, a shelter, a home, hunt, prepare food. A good Axe and knife 👍🏻❤👍🏻
The first thing i do with all my cold steel tomahawks is take out the screw, weld the little hole and file it even, throw it in the bbq on a mild fire to remove the paint or varnish, and sand down the handle and adjust it so the axehead locks on it without any splitting or screws or nails. Also like with a hammer, i throw the axe in a bucket of water once in a while so the handle swells and locks the head in place. It makes the axe look like its a hundred years old after those simple handlings and they are fun to do on a boring day. Grts from Belgium.
But.... does it make you feel like a Viking when you throw it? did you get the head cut and beard and tats to fit the profile, and listen to some yggdrsil wicca in dutch while you did it? ;) hahaha... these are good axes for sure. I would put a good modern handle on it and watch it shine better.
Loved this video. I discovered your videos many years ago and since have bought and modified many CS Hawks. I just bought the battle axe and was really hoping you would do a video in it. I'm impressed but how it split. As thin as it is I wasn't expecting much.
Gotta say I really like the sheath for the saw. That is a great idea. Im thinking of making a over the shoulder sheath for my cutless machete an one for my ontario kukri anyway a little kydex an I could put my saw on it to. Because I use the saw with both. I think you started me a idea. So have a good one brother
Palisades I also have such a Viking ax. You can climb pallisades and walls with it, if you use the leaf as a hook, so did the Vikings. At least you should be able to. you can hook up with shields and zombies and pull them away. The Viking ax is not an all-round talent for nothing. All-round talent cannot do anything perfect, but there is little better when you have to survive Thx for that video and merry christmas
From what I've seen in your video....the roundish handle causes a bit of twist, but the high velocity (lightness) + the super sharp/long blade cuts extra deep = overall, it cuts through wood better than a standard wood axe. *a leather wrapped grip would solve any 'twisting tendencies'....but that would mean sacrificing the ability to easily remove/swap heads. So I see why you didn't do that! Splitting small pieces of firewood, it performs okay....but that handle will get eaten up fast if you try using it for big pieces (over-strike damage is horrible on 'bearded/horned' type axe heads). That's not a big deal though, it is a combat axe....that it performs well enough for chores is just a bonus. I also agree with your comparison of the Viking Hand Axe to the Battle Axe. The Viking Hand Axe is the more useful tool: 1) It's more pronounced Beard allows for superior choke grip for shavings and fine cutting. 2) It's easier to carry. The Viking Hand Axe's pronounced Beard allows it to be carried/hooked onto your belt....which the Battle Axe can't do = carrying the Battle Axe would be a chore. 3) The Viking Hand Axe has a cheap (but very good) sheath...where the Battle Axe requires a more expensive custom sheath ordered online. 4) The Viking Hand Axe's pronounced Beard means it is more useful (than the Battle Axe) as a hooking tool for pulling logs and brush...or even a climbing aid. That hook is useful! As for Combat....I'd give the Battle Axe a SLIGHT edge (pun)! It's pronounced Horn would allow it to stab better than the Viking Hand Axe. Both Axes have relatively similar cutting capability (weight/tapper/edge-length/steel/handle length)! Finally, the Viking Hand Axe DOES have an advantage with it's superior hook (Beard) when compared to the Battle Axe....so the Viking Hand Axe would be superior at any hooking techniques! Overall, I give the Viking Hand Axe the win! *Thank you for the review!
after I watched your reviews of cold steel hawks of any type, I know that mayby there ar some better tools but for me, pipe hawk is the one I need. Thank you, stay safe.
Good review nicely done. Agree with all your points. Just one question though, do you really consider the zombie apocalypse may not happen? That's almost a blasphemous statement.....
This reminds me of a channel that took a kids Playskool car, and made it fly. It was a kids car, not a plane, but that's what made it cool, just some guys using their minds and seeing if they could do it. It's the same when you do the videos on the hawks, sure, they're not forest axes, but it's fun to see what they can do. Too many people afraid of getting out of their comfort zone. I dig the battle axe. 👍✌ The curve on the head, makes it perfect for rolling cuts when preparing food.

I have saved one of your excellent kydex sheaths on my Ebay watch list but unfortunately I live in Australia and by the time I add in postage and import duties the sheath cost more than the bloody axe does...LoL Still may bite the bullet as the sheath's look so good.

That said, I had bought the Viking Hand Axe + the Viking Axe (Dane Axe)......the Viking Hand Axe was so useful (and fun) for clearing brush and playing with. While the huge Viking (Dane) Axe was cool....it was completely useless for anything besides looking cool. The video showed that the Battle Axe falls into that 'cool, but not very useful' zone! Certainly more useful than the Viking (Dane) Axe....but not nearly as useful as the Viking Hand Axe.
Plus it is great defensive tool in the right hands .The vikeing used that hook sometimes to try to pull down the shield or possibly poke a hole in it .They were bad to the bone and there knives and there axes were just there every day carry
I have said axe, hanging on the wall in my office. And its a very nice tool/weapon. What I want to know, if your still there. Is where did you get the sheath? Oh and what angle did you sharpen your axe too? I went with 24 degree's per side.

Is that a unmodded Cold steel Dane ax? I read that it came with a 48-in long handle and I am planning on using the tomahawk like design that might be shown in this video, is that the original haft that came with the product? If so that would be fantastic.
Great video, I have a question on the handles though, I thought one was supposed to keep a little of the handle protruding out the top with a tomahawk style axe. I recently bought a Rifleman's Hawk and I'm working on getting a flush fit , but I'm rapidly running out of wood at the top, so I stopped for now. But then I see your (short) handle sitting flush, so perhaps I'm over thinking it... Would be great to hear your opinion on the matter. Love the videos, it's not often an online vid keeps me entertained for more than 3 minutes...
Okay, yes do not make the top of the handle flush with the top of the head, unless you are going to cut a slot in the top of the handle and use a wedge. Frankly since it is called an "Axe" that's what I will do with my Viking Battle Axe when I get it. I also have the Rifleman's hawk, and its more axe then hawk. I put mine on the 30 inch Cold Steel handle, now its a beast of a chopper.
I don't know when, but youtube unsubscribed me from you a long time ago, I just found an unanswered comment of yours on one of my old videos... and hey you are still making vids cool... re subscribed...
Might say where you got the mask , or cover , whatever you call it . I might order the 30 inch handle for the norse , ive a idea it'd make a good walking stick , if I wanted to carry the head in my bag .
The mask was made by me. 30" handle probly work great if you don't torque it too much in stuck wood. 26" I think is what I have been running on some of these and it gets a little flexi when stuck in a stump.
The shorty handles definitely come in handy, the one in this vid was made when I was bluing a big batch of heads. I just needed a short handle to hold while working... turned out I found all kinds of uses for such a short handle, I made this one out of brush alder, weighs nothing and is pretty tough!
@@Scablands_Scavenger ... Nice. Yeah the long full handle is great for power strokes. Looks like you honed your axe scary sharp as always. Awesome. I've been wanting the full viking axe. Just to complete my viking/norse collection.

"Camping with a battle axe & no, I'm not talking about your mother-in-law" 😆😆😆 if I did end up camping with her I'm pretty much on my own. Lot of help I'd get from her lol
I am working on that, I had to change the lock design a little, the large points don't work as well with my normal lock. I should have some up very soon !
I like this axe, basically is the little version of the 'Cold Steel Viking Axe' :-) My man, if one day you will make a sheath for this one, I will be one of your customers (altough I don't live in the U.S so I don't know).
Thanks for checking out the vid! I normally have sheaths for this in stock but am out at the moment. Unfortunately I just had one of my sheaths stopped at the Ebay international shipping hub and declared a "prohibited item" so I have pulled all my items off the international listing while I try to sort out the situation. Ebay is not very helpful. Up until this point I have had good luck shipping to Canada, Australia, Germany and a few other Countries.
@@Scablands_Scavenger Oh no need for a thanks my man. I like your videos and I subscribed :-) I live in Italy, btw. Northern Italy. Keep up the good work, I love axe and tomahawks.
It was funny man I was looking at the Amazon comments for one of the cold steel axes I think the Viking hand ax.. and I saw your review there with your zuki one name from UA-cam and was like holy s***? Look at this small world all of us loving axes 😊
Sorry? Did you say the zombie apocalypse may not happen? Do you mean to tell me that all those idiots stock piled for nothing? (Loved the "sharp thing on the end of a stick" comment).
Folks - #1). Getting the hair cut and beard and watching the shows and listening to new age Wicca music will NOT make you a "Viking". #2). Having a "Viking" axe by Lynn Thompson's "Cold-Steel" will NOT make you a "Viking" or warrior in any way shape or form. #3). Throwing this axe will for sure NOT make you a "Viking", or make you resemble in any way a "Viking", or even have you throwing like a "Viking" did. 4#). I think it is a very good axe but the handle may need to get replaced for a good upgraded one for good practical heavy use over time without worrying about a sudden break. "Vikings" were a bunch of people from the North that raided and did trade, they did NOT call themselves "Vikings" like in the shows, or really acted like we portray them with myth and in the shows. Defend your freedoms and own cultures, screw Hollywood and dumb trends. Do not become sad, we got our own culture, history and trends we should be creating and following. Great videos man, for real.

If I could have found a mask for that axe , I'd have bought it , I settled on a norse model, think it had a 22 inch handle
I can appreciate that, that is the very reason I started making my own sheaths. Kind of fun and puts a personal touch on each axe.
"Camping with a battle axe & no, I'm not talking about your mother-in-law" 😆😆😆 if I did end up camping with her I'm pretty much on my own. Lot of help I'd get from her lol
Looks like quite an axe. How well does it slice cheese???😁
Ha ha... no cutting the cheeze when tent camping !
You reviewed this TOO!??? I THOUGHT IT WAS EXCLUSIVE FROM OUR SELLER!!!! WTF CHOP CHOP CHOP!
Seems to do a pretty good job around camp. Plus if a neighboring tribe tries to invade your territory you're ready to fight.
I checked the link but I don't see Viking battle axe's sheath??
I am working on that, I had to change the lock design a little, the large points don't work as well with my normal lock. I should have some up very soon !
I like this axe, basically is the little version of the 'Cold Steel Viking Axe' :-)
My man, if one day you will make a sheath for this one, I will be one of your customers (altough I don't live in the U.S so I don't know).
I like your videos and I subscribed :-)
I live in Italy, btw. Northern Italy.
Keep up the good work, I love axe and tomahawks.
no more zueki1?
Just changed the name. The old name was from my off roading days in a Suzuki Samurai, just didn't fit the channel really.
It was funny man I was looking at the Amazon comments for one of the cold steel axes I think the Viking hand ax.. and I saw your review there with your zuki one name from UA-cam and was like holy s***? Look at this small world all of us loving axes 😊
People: Battle axes can not be used to split or chop logs!
Cold Steel Axe: How bout I do...anyway?
LMAO I was going to comment these are actually for battle, but then you started talking about little timmy and the plum stump lol
I thought this was going to be about camping with my wife
Sorry? Did you say the zombie apocalypse may not happen? Do you mean to tell me that all those idiots stock piled for nothing? (Loved the "sharp thing on the end of a stick" comment).
Can you kill a bear with it?
Great videos man, for real.
lol Zombie Apocalypse never occur
