Smrithi :) this video just made my day literally. I’m newly married and was struggling to tie a madisar properly and I had to depend on someone. I just followed your instructions and it was just so perfect and my grandmom was just so shocked to see me wear a perfect madisar with zero experience. I’m so thankful and just loved the way you narrated and fits too well and stands for hours. Thanks a lot Smrithi for this beautiful video 😊
Thank you for saving my life.. a city bred Sindhi girl marries to an Iyengar Brahmin who went n bought a 9 yard saree n stitched a blouse to surprise his folks in new year day today.... and only your clear tutorial saved my life... Huge thank u again :)
You look beautiful! 😍 This video is the best. I have not worn a madisar saree for quite awhile. I learned to tie a 9 yard saree when I stayed in Sri Rangam in 2001, the Mami who taught me had me pull the entire saree through the waist to secure the kacha… this knot method is genius!
It's me 7 years i am following ur instruction to drap madisar and shared to many of my friends and family. Thank you so much. I M seeing many videos but urs the one which is best and comfortable always

This is an awesome tutorial. I am married but never ever had a try on wearing the madisar at all. Now that my daughter has a fancy dress competition at school and it’s traditional brides and grooms and no readymade dress. Since being Iyengar I would like her to look as an Iyengar bride and this video has helped me indeed so much for both me and my daughter. Cheers and lots of love.
Very very thanks. It helps a lot of people struggling to wear madisar Saree especially like me. Now I learnt how. Clearly explained. Thanks a lot. Even from 6 yards it is useful.

EXCELLENT Video. I am happy I found it atleast today. This will be my go to video for tying a madisar podavai. And, it is very similar to how my moms and chittis have draped it for me except for so many securities and precautions shown. Neverthless, I am sure this will be very useful for amateurs. Great JOB and thanks much.
Hi smrithi thank you so much. I have watched all your videos. I am a malayalee but married to a tamil iyer. My inlaws have said to wear normal saree as i know only that way for functions but I am planning to wear this to surprise them.
sara s In that case, in the final steps, just make sure to drape the saree over your right shoulder instead of left, keeping everything else the same. It still won’t be authentic iyer madisar but would be similar.
Thanks a lot Smriti :) its very clear and easily understandable..:) for pongal i can wear madisar with the help of your tutorial :) Thanks a ton :) Kudos for your job :)

Thanks for the kind words! I bought the saree in Kanchipuram, a city close to Chennai, famous for silk sarees. The store's name is "Karpagam", in case you are interested.
Great job guys. Do you know if it's just sufficient to do the few last steps on the other side to drape the saree FINALLY ON THE LEFT SIDE of the shoulder. ? Iyengar style but left side finish.?
I am assuming you want the saree to go over the right shoulder instead of the left. Like a mirror image? More like how Iyers wear it? If thats what you mean, starting step 23 you would have to do everything in the opposite direction. You will have to bring the kacham clock-wise to the front and go around to the back. Bring it back to the front, drape it on your right shoulder and then bring the pallu forward in clockwise fashion and tuck it in at the right side of the waist. Hope I answered your question.
Hi . This is a lovely video . I understand that there is another method of achieving the kachsm using a string ( naada ). Could you please explain that as I am told that's a little easier version .
It's very simple really. I wanted to consult with my mom before responding to you but I have a fair idea as to what that entails. So when you pull the kacham through your legs and rest it on your arm, like I suggested, grab a naada and tie it around your waist including the kacham bit you are holding in your arms. Does that make sense? It is the same concept as creating the belt-like formation I discussed. Instead of the saree, you are using a naada here! Another easy way to do it would be, before you even pull the kacham throug your legs, lie the naada around your waist. Then pull the saree behind from between your legs and carry it up your legs. Now, get the kacham bit through the naada around your waist and pull it through. You will achieve the same effect! Thanks for bringing this up. Certainly easier than my method but just as secure!
@@smrithirajagopal thanks so much . I think I got a hang of it . If in future you do plan to make a video of another version of a 9 yard saree tying using the Jada method it will help lots of us . Thanks again for this awesome video and for responding .
