- Here's my 2023 updated fingerstyle guitar version of the Michael Jackson hit "Billie Jean".
This was my second big UA-cam hit, back in 2008.
Next thing I knew, guitar pickers all over the world started learning this one, and in some cases got many more views than mine :-)
I gotta admit, the original one has a "fresh" energy - but that changed over the years into a different deeper sound and groove, and clearer melody.
The original has 1.8 MILLION views - Not bad, eh?

I am blown away Man. I started taking lessons last year with just beginnwr basic, not even learning cords. My thumb started hurting really bad and I had to stop . Sharp pain runs thru my thumb. But I will give it another try. I love Michael's song. This is the first I've heard on guitar. I has a Lead Guitar also. Thank you for showing your fingers in motion.
Cynthia, Adam here. I urge you to go to a teacher and get a couple of lessons because tendinitis in the Fingers is something that can put musicians out of commission. And it sounds like you might have been developing some.
Get a real good guitar teacher who can spot what you’re doing wrong and teach you a few correct techniques so you stop having that pain in your thumb. If I had pain in my fingers, I couldn’t do what I do but luckily I had teachers show me the right way to use my hands. You can’t teach everything to yourself you need a teacher. Good luck!
Occasional tendinitis in my thumb 😮 yeah…I know that when moving the thumb over on bottom strings. Remedy: bending the thumb backwards to the wrist with the other hand for as long as needed is stopping the pain.

I can't get over how you capture the essence of the song. I think it has something to do with the combination of a great arrangement with an unerring driving rhythm. Keep it going man!
Fingerstyle arrangements of songs often focus solely on the melody, and it leaves the tune a bit soulless at times, I think. The groove and rhythm are so integral to this one and it has been captured just wonderfully here, as you say. What a shame MJ isn't around to hear this. I'm sure he'd have been delighted.
