It’s greed. High rent. High taxes. Greed.
Wow! I’m from NY and used to go to the Galleria often. Brings back so many memories. Sad it’s closing
Hi 👋
This is sad. I feel like part of my youth is gone. I spent all of my teenage years here and got my first full-time job at this mall.
Are you a Big Guy ?
Breaks my heart man

Omg it's a freaking mall not the rock n roll hall of fame🤦🏻
@@EsmeraldaWolfsbane7777 shut up bet u never experience something magical
A staple during my college years... what a difference 15 years can make! RIP to the Galleria Mall... a shame to see it go!
Reminds me of Sherman Oaks Galleria where so many movies were made. Perfect for hanging out, movies, food court, stores of all types, and people watching!
R.I.P mall. Gone but never forgotten.🙏
Affordable housing... $2100 a month for a studio.
It’s definitely sad. I have never been to that mall.
The New Rochelle Mall is gone too.
I'm enough of a geezer to remember a prior mall in New Rochelle, simply called The Mall at New Rochelle. The one with the outdoor ice skating rink, and which has slipped into near oblivion even here on the internet
Not there anymore.
I lived in White Plains for a few years. The city is obsessed with developing luxury housing but all of the stores are closing. Walmart is gone, The White Plains Mall (on the opposite side of the giant Verizon building on Hamilton ave) closed, now the Galleria. You got the movie theater but not much else in "Downtown" White Plains. Mamaroneck avenue has a few bars but not much more people talk about. Put a Dave and Buster's, Rock Climing, indoor sky diving, or something in these giant commercial spaces to bring people in.
That would be awesome. A whole mall rebuilt from within to be an activity center. More space to play laser tag and can give it a cool sci-fi look.
Welp, here comes the "luxury" apartments 🙄
A shame that this beautiful mall is getting demolished.
I don't understand what makes covered areas so "pedestrian unfriendly". As a pedestrian I'd much rather not be sweating my rear off under the sun. Preferable even above covered areas, I'd rather be inside with the air conditioning, such as _inside_ _a_ _mall_ , not at one of these outdoor "walkable" developments. 🙄
was there opening day as a 19yr old, and a 13 yr old for orginial hamilton ave mall, we were amazed all the stores were inside, and a 1 floor elevator...grew up in WP, so cool, suburbs, but get to times sq in half hr
Malls have gone out of style and have been in free fall for the past 20 years. Some smaller single level malls may come back, but right now it’s the town square vibe with cafes etc that people prefer.
That totally sucks
Another childhood memory about to be demolished for good, just like the ol YMCA in 250 Mamaroneck Ave where I was put in daycare in 1998-2000... I'm 29 now... :( I feel so old.
So sad and really a sign that the days of human interaction, in person shopping and socializing are coming to a close with the dawn of the internet, which is what killed the shopping mall. I used to go to this mall as a kid with my mother, my friends and their mothers to run around Kay Bee Toys, JC Penney (and anchor store) and Heroes World for comics. Such fond memories of days bygone and a time when shopping was recreational.
I had visited the Galleria last year during a comic convention being held there and was almost reduced to tears when I saw the blacked out windows of merchants that had already packed it in. All I could take with me is the ghosts of good times past. Sad day indeed 😢
Sad so many easily gravitate to online shopping (including me,) but event and cultural centers that revolved around market centers have fundamentally changed. Not just malls but shopping areas in general, where there would be small business and stores. Personally I missed the ones that had the hobby shops from my childhood. Anyone remember what Flushing NY was like at the turn of the century?
Wow first visit to the Disney Store before landing on w.125th & 8th Ave....
Used to visit The Galleria when I resided @ parkchester!
every time I go to white plains I just wonder how long the place is gonna stand there until its torn down..I saw that closing coming a long time ago I watched that mall fall down the tubes I use to work over at the hospital for 17 long years..
OMG...I used to work there in my senior year in high school. Great memories. Moved out of state after college.😢
Video killed the radio star, wally world killed small town main street and amazon killed the malls, 😂🎉
Dear Xi Li: Selassie! Truth. Also: contributing is the justice system's leniency, lax, and laissez-faire is killing the psychological experiences.
I’m gonna miss that place, cheers from Raleigh, NC.
you have the beautiful Crabtree valley mall down there with the glass elevator ❤
I went there today all the way from Yonkers and was dumbstruck that it's permanently closed. I wasn't aware
i grew up hear, im so heartbroken
i lived in white plains for 5 years and people treated me like shit there they dont like outsiders
Whyyyy nooo
What happen to the Iconic Recording Karaoke Machine Booth the Ms. MJB recorded her cover demo in¿

Welcome to 2023
I was there last week the entrances are all boarded up. The galleria is just sitting there. Nothing has been done yet. The parking lot is almost a
Ghost parking lot . Also very insecure.
Traffic, confusing parking lots, can't find stores, bathrooms, no thanks. On line is how I like to shop.
all those things you mentioned always existed what's the difference?
@@robertvincent5019 I'm getting old. Rather not deal with traffic, crowds, ...now Get off my lawn !!!!
@@raymondlin8728 You sound old with a comment like that, and you are only thinking of yourself not the future generations.
@Robert Vincent I'm not thinking about myself. When I was younger and had someone to hang out with, that was fine. Now I'm old I like peace, quiet, etc, can't deal with humongous stores, crowds, confusing parking lots, etc
@NewCoke-PepsiMan84 well, it's not the 80s and I'm not a teen anymore riding a bicycle to the mall. I'm older, disabled, and prefer not risking my life and bone and getting hit by a car. It's the younger generation that should be walking, riding bicycle there, everywhere, but they prefer to do their shopping, socializing, play sports, video games, reading, online, vs the mall, library, community center, the YMCA, the younger generation should be riding bikes to work, sporting events, library, etc
The blossom falls on the mountain.
The mountain falls on the blossom.
All things fall.
I remember driving down from Yonkers just to get Cinnabon’s 😅😅😅
I used to eat right in that place the buns and the soft ice creams
That was the only movie theather in white plains ny ? , no any other movie theathers ?
no. Just the General Cinema twin theater
Make a Roller skate Rink and a bowling alley 😅
That's a good idea, so they'll never do it smh
😔😭😔
Yea
Wow no y that's was a good spot to go to
UA-cam’s new 2023 focus: Stores that closed today……..
How about restaurants too
Apartments!!!!!
For rich people? How about border crossers and less fortunate
@@robrandolph9463 Actually i was thinking low income working class people, those people that live in their cars etc. They will have access to everything and lots of parking. Converting from hotels, motels and malls to low income housing seems like a great idea instead of just demolishing these buildings that already have great locations and parking.
Yes build housing
The mayor is an absolute idiot!
What about the infrastructure; sewer, gas, electric, cable? Traffic?
12% for affordable housing is ludicrous, especially since Westchester is one of the most unaffordable counties in NYS to reside.
Building more housing puts a strain on limited resources; water, sewer, congestion, schools.
Another thing that galls me is these "developers" getting "tax incentives", which in reality is taxpayers welfare, for what?
Absolutely warped priorities!
I think is one the effects of e-commerce.pura vida
That place was never safe I worked there at Spencer gifts they where never safe
Monmouth Mall Eatontown is next....
It will be missed!
The money is going to get bigger, There something big and better coming, regardless if it’s more beneficial for the public domain or not!!!!
Are you fcking kidding me? Where are people like me who wanna hang out at the mall and buy stuff from gamestop, hot topic gonna go?
Turn it into a living center for less fortunate and newly arrived individuals from the southern border. Could house a lot of persons .

Everybody is so upset because the galleria mall is gone forever.

Sad that people rather shop online smh
Sadly online shopping is better priced and no Covid as well as it doesn’t help pay workers online shopping. This is the first of many I personally loved going to malls
@@ryandarko2115 it’s actually not better priced! But to each its own!
@@marysuckafreechic9006 It’s sure as heck is safer tho!
@@iSoleyy no it’s not! Robberies exist online too.
There are just more things online as opposed to in store

EVERYONE IS MOVING SOUTH TO WARMER AND SAFER STATES LIKE NORTH AND SOUTH CAROLINA, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, TENNESSEE ETC. I KNOW I DID. PEACE AND BLESSINGS.🙏🇺🇸✌️👍🏻
Malls are closing in those states as well. It is happening across the country
nobody relocates to Tennessee. ❌
As someone with family in Spartanburg, it's funny that you think NC, SC, and Georgia of all places are safer 😂
This mall kept the only street named MLK from becoming crime ridden eyesore.
It wasn't crime ridden it was poor and mostly black and Latino they were displaced for the Galleria
🌈 The more you know
Hope it does not become a homeless, criminal, drug center like the other boroughs…. Lol.
Online is where it’s at. Who wants to be around a bunch or idiots and young folks acting dumb and dealing with lazy workers who don’t help. Plus you deal with parking and theft and a whole bunch of B.S.
I love eBay!
I hope you like house arrest because that's what all of this is leading to
@@robertvincent5019 I’m a homebody anyways so I’m ok with that.
Biden America
Or you know, in the real world, online shopping.
@@YouAreStillNotablaze No, it's Biden.
