Lovely job Dave. More time consuming than buying one, but much more rewarding for us the viewers and for you when you look back at the finished product 👍
Brilliant stuff! If I am not mistaken, that panel you were using as a buck was from an Escort 1300E in Ford Purple Velvet Metalic. I hope it wasnt my old 1300E😂. I n 1985 it got nicked from a nigtclub outside Tenby by some lads from Swansea and the police chased it around the town for half the night but couldn't catch it. They eventually abandoned it undamaged but one of the lads couldn't get out of the back seat because the drivers Corbeau GTB seat didn't tip forward and the police caught him and led to the arrest of the others. When they took me to collect the car they were very interested to know whether it was standard "Yes oficer, completely standard!", I think the Buton Power Products Sunstrip and chrome Rostyle wheels with 205/60 x13 Avon Turbopeed tyres told a different story. "Oh and by the way, we found your keys in the ignition" said one of the officers grinning smugly, I reached into my pocket and said "no these are my keys" holding out my own bunch! Thanks for another great video that brought back more than a few happy memories. I've always thought people from Swansea had great taste in cars 🤣!
Lovely panel Dave spot on 👌 I had to laugh when you welded two panels together. I was saying Dave don't do it to late they are together lol but you sorted Great vid well done👍
Nice work Dave, good on you for getting the ole thinking cap !! My son and I are loving the journey of this car… one day we’ll have our own one, keep up the great work 👍
Great job Dav them so called mk1 panels have made my life hell fitting them soon as I had them I said they was mk2 🤬🤬🤬 love how easily you make it look 👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent Dave having wrestled with fitting the rear corner panel onto my car I have never been happy with the swage line I now know why… :) . I will have to go back and revisit that area now you have highlighted the details and given some good tips on how to overcome the rubbish panels.
Your skills have no bounds. Amazing bit of fabrication. Your quite right that panel is a Mk1 but magnum have just developed a correct mk1 Escort one in the last month or so. Excellent work Dave well done and thank you for showing us in such great detail. Best channel on youtube 👍
So dave you use the grinder marks in a different direction to show where the bend shape would form, very clever indeed, I will do the same on my own mk1 escort, once I take out the windows incase they get damaged with indents of sparks and rust from the metal in glass, thank you for your videos
Nice job Dave well done 👍👍 nothing worse than spending your hard earned few quid to find the the panel is no use and probably have the panel for to long to go back to them with it
well done dave that panel is brilliant good old frittes would be proud of it dave your workshop is in need of a good sort out my misses said it is worse than mine excellent workmanship done with simple tools can not wait for your next installment
Not satisfied with the part, make new part from scratch and makes it look easy, I know how long it took to gain the skills to make it look so easy, sign of a true craftsman. Good Friday viewing, thanks.
Your sir are a superb craftsman, I could watch you do this sort of thing all day Dave what a fabulous job mate hats off to you . You’ve inspired me so much I’m just in the process of getting a few tools together to do it then I’m going to buy what I would call a salvageable second hand panel and see if I can repair it 🤞 great job mate and thumbs up to your camera man he’s amazing still like a human tripod lol
41:10 Question : Why don't you use that from the original panel 41:27? It doesn't look rotten, might be easier to fit that to the new panel, than to make that after the fact?
hey dave, awesome video as usual, I am loving watching the work that is going into this escort. Qq, and a bit of a random one, but whats the welding mask that you use? I have a headlight taped onto mine, and thats not ideal! The one that you use looks ideal for what I need. Do you have a link where I could buy the same one from please 👍👍
Hi Mark, funnily enough, we did video a little about that, but the noise from the welder was too intrusive. It's a normal self darkening helmet, but I've screwed a head torch to it, makes a huge difference, I wish I'd done it sooner. Maybe I'll do a short video on it.
@@DavesGarageuk thanks for getting back to me, I didnt realise it was a diy approach, it looks very much more professional than mine! A video would be very much appreciated on how you have done yours 👍
FYI, if you go find and watch another UA-cam channel called "Wray Schelin's Proshaper Workshop", for how he makes what he calls, a flexible shape pattern, used for replicating parts...could help you in the future.

I'm glad you can look back and laugh about that 🤣 I had a lovely Mana GTE coupe stolen of my drive in the early 90's, still makes me sad 😔
Miraculous! Nice work Dave and cameraman.
Thank you Phil 😊

Thanks Derek, rubbish they are too, shame they can't take a little more care in producing them, if it was a £20 panel, not so bad, but £50!!
