Honestly, the pricing model feels out of touch. I get supporting artists, but there are better ways than this subscription trap. MKBHD should know better.
He called apple greedy for taking 30% (which is obviously true), but he wants 50!
I’m struggling to comprehend the disconnect. You don’t need to pay a subscription. I downloaded a few free wallpapers from the app, and they look fantastic on my phone. This is a very niche market. If you want to access additional features, you can. Both options are available for those who want it. Everyone wants everything for free. Well, not everything is free.
Regarding the pricing structure and percentages, let’s be realistic. Who’s doing the heavy lifting? One of the largest tech channels out there is actively promoting the app, showcasing it in every video, and personally taking the brunt of the negative feedback when the public doesn’t appreciate something. He should receive a 50% share. It’s as if the world expects everyone to be free, and if you dare to open a business for profit, you’re somehow a villain.

You don't have to go through all that hassle. If you wanted to you could get all wallpapers from the dumb app for free because the security measures on the app was dogshit and someone back engineered it within 30 minutes lol.

One of the questions I have is why does he feel the need to do this? He is already rich. It is not like he is desperate for money or what not. Why did he even think of making extra money off his fans with a subpar product at best and a scam at worst? This is very uncharacteristic of MKBHD. I am deeply disappointed in his decision-making.
Greed. It gets every wealthy person eventually. He’s rich…but he could be richer! And it’s only 50 bucks - as someone with a net worth of around 50 million dollars, i highly doubt that he’s even capable of grasping what 50 bucks are for normal people. Some few people are different, but he’s obviously not one of them…
maybe he might be rich now , but it's hard to sustain the lifestyle for a very long time, who knows he might get cancelled in future and lose the majority of streams of income. He is just in 20s, need to store that bread till retirement, the high inflation will make sure diminishing wealth

Also, if u pay 50$ you should get nit only usual picture walpapers but also live wallpapers that are really high quality. Or interactive ones (like the planets wallpaper in iPhones with smooth beautiful animation) [although idk whether the animation thing is open source, its apple lol, and whether they can create sth like that]

I recently got access to the "compare thumbnails" feature and while trying to figure it out I got a bit lazy and ended up using your hand with a smartphone from your thumbnail instead of taking my own picture-definitely not my best move. I just ended the "thumbnail test" and used my original one. As you can probably tell, I'm a big fan of your content and sometimes draw inspiration from creators like you, but I know I should’ve gone about it differently. I totally get what you mean! I used a simple dark blue background for years myself. I've always felt that the simpler the background, the easier it is to focus on the screen.

This app feels like Apple (pricing) + Google (bloatware) on steroids lol. For a wallpaper app, Backdrops is still more all rounded and competitive.
It's crazy that the app gives away no free wallpaper at all, like every single one of them has to be paid for; that is nuts!
I’m more disappointed about what the app is like wallpapers bro wallpapers… If it was a useful app or something more exciting I’d be happy to pay $50 a year but for wallpapers nah that’s just not it you can literally find free high-quality wallpapers everywhere.

Personally my phone wall papers are of my dogs, so this app is of no interest to me to get for myself.

For a wallpaper. Even free is almost too expensive. I'm still using the basic wallpaper that came with the phone

Someone managed to transfer all the HD wallpapers from the Panel apps to GDrive,making them available for everyone to download for free. 😂
My wallpaper is blank, absolute black. Nothis else. So, basically, I don't have any wallpaper on my phone.

People always put these influencers on a pedestal. People need to remember that influencers like MKBHD are tech reviewers for a REASON! There’s a reason he’s a tech reviewer and not a software developer, product manager or product designer. It’s because he has no skills in those areas. Anyone can review products, not everyone can build them
this is exactly why you never follow or support UA-camrs who are clearly mega rich from success, it doesn't matter what they say once they are multi millionaires they are no longer able to connect with their audiences. This is simply inevitable regardless of how good their intentions were when they started out.
Sure UA-cam is mostly a meritocracy but at some point it just becomes snowballing, where success simply brings you more success, regardless of what you do. This is why everyone should actively avoid the top channels even if there's no scandal of any kind.

My problem with this is not even the pricing it is that he thought make an app when he could have just shown people where he got his wallpapers. Walli is an app and suspiciously similar to the panels app especially with all that permissions. There is literally no need to gate-keep this.
