Why Joseph Fahnbulleh May Become Unbeatable in the 200m. | Sensational Sprint Talent.

- In the 200m final at the 2021 NCAA Championships, the world bore witness to a shocking win by Joseph Fahnbulleh, coming back from a bad start to catch the favorites Shaun Maswanganyi, and Terrence Laird. He won in 19.91 seconds, equally the third fastest wind legal time to ever win the NCAA outdoor title, tying with Wallace Spearmon who won in that exact time in 2005. Interestingly, that same year as a collegiate athlete Spearmon went on to win a silver medal in the 200m at the world championships.
PLEASE NOTE : According to articles his height said to be about 5ft10, however it seems those might have been incorrect, so my apologies for that one.
Also to be clear Joseph has made it know he will not compete for team USA but will represent the country of his parents Liberia in this upcoming Olympics
@@bwillyoufunny Really?
@@bwillyoufunny Thanks for the info, never caught wind of that.
Joe is 6’ 2
Just how tall is he, I thought I heard a commentator say 6-3.
one the most unique sprinters I've ever seen. I remember racing him in high school and getting a 5m lead on him out of the blocks but then he turned it on and pulled away from everyone effortlessly, he's just built different no other way to put it
crazy long stride
How fast did you run my man?
I raced him to and I was good but he wasn’t good like me so I won and he did not win. The end
@@bendayho4426 doubt it
@@bendayho4426 file that under "things that never happened"
I am Kenyan, a nation where we take our track and rugby very seriously...I have to admit Joseph is a true diamond in the rough.
You Kenyans are unstoppable in those long distance events.
@mark watson I know.
Well said Pam, and remember he is an African, from west Africa Liberia.
I am Jamaican and I wish him the best of everything, can't wait to see what he can do!
I counted their strides and both him and Usain Bolt take about 80 strides on the 200m race. He just has to fix his start and will be unbeatable indeed. Sky is the limit for this kid.
Yeah with a 9.47 last 100m he could threaten for an all time Top5 200.
You think he'll be beat out Errington Knighton in the coming years?
@@brettf2 no knighton will be better
He is definetly one to watch...
For sure!!
Dude good but he not no Laird. Get off the oky doky!! LAIRD that dude.
His the tallest 5'10 guy I've ever seen.
😂😂😂😂😂
I didn’t know he was 5’10 but he is are t
He’s like 6’2-6’3 lmao
@Kropotkin I’ve met this guy multiple times before I did track in Minnesota we were in the same graduating class in 6’1 and he was taller than me.
@Kropotkin nah but I’ve been measured at the doctors
His start is unreal bad though. He's been doing the 60 meter indoor to improve his starts but he needs to find a way of getting that big body out of the blocks faster.
He needs to change his coaching team.
He’s the pure definition of a diamond in the rough, naturally gifted. Now comes technique, when he gets that down... he may change how people train the 200
That walk off at the end of the race was vicious 🔥
he's gonna be a lot of fun to watch, sleeper
Love watching this guy. Such a unique style.
Running so fast with so much issues can give us an idea of how fast Joseph will go when those issue are corrected. He has the worst start of any sprinter in history that I have ever seen. But the best finish which can be compare to that of usain bolt . Remember he beat a sprinter who has the leading 200m time for this year and this speaks volume.
I believe he is in a prime position to medal in this year Olympic and can win the gold if he gets his start right.
I thought absolutely the same
the problem with this line of thinking is that it may be true that the only reason he is able to develop such fantastic top end speed is because of whatever biomechanical quirks make his start so terrible.
I was never an elite talent, but I had the same issue. I had a slow start and the best top end speed on my team. I always played catch up, but had a strong 200 because I had enough time for my top speed to catch up and pass everyone.
@@shaneminer15 I would not totally agree with you .But to some extent you have a point in that sprinters who have slow start have very good finish and visa versa .But look at bolt he has a bad start but not that bad. Joseph start is terrible and he has a good finish with the help of his stride length which is longer that that of bolt , believe me .
He is not burn out after a race .
The point I am making is that he can put more into his start and still have the same strength to finish because he would be in the race and the option to push harder or just run will be his relative to the position of the other sprinters .
5' 10"? You sure about that? The rest of the field got to be about 5'5" and shorter. He towers over them
He’s definitely not 5’10 more like 6’2+
Yeahh his 6’2
Many sites say 5'10 and 23 years old. Idk. A picture next to his Florida relay teammates they are all the same height except for one.
@@thecensoredmuscle563 bro just look at him he’s 6’3 or 6’2 my friend runs at UF and he’s 5’11 6’0 and hes noticeably bigger than him
@@okemzz3414 I think that he is definitely taller than 5'10. It's just idk what's up with the internet saying he's 5'10. The Florida relay team is pretty tall.
I see him really challenging the best in a couple of seasons.
Yeah it will take some time to really challenge.
He’s competing for Liberia in Tokyo
Anyway you look at it...the US is stacked with a ton of talent in the 200. The current pros are incredible; the new crop of college kids is awesome; and the HS group has sick potential. I'm a fan of all of them...Stay healthy and fit fellas and know there's a ton of people in America (and worldwide) watching and rooting for you all.
He is going to be a huge threat for the following years 💪
He is a Beast! Go young blood!
If this guy ever comes into the home straight in the lead I don't think he can lose
if he comes to the home straight in the lead then bolt's record is toast
@@mr.commenter1242 the heck it is. Nobody good enough to make bolts wr toast. Bolt got the highest top speed ever plus the second best 60m outdoor time in history only beated by su bingtian recently. That combination is lethal and fahnbulleh needs to increase his accelaration drastically to get close to bolt. Remember noah lyles and de grasse are the men in 200 m since bolt resigning and they even close to 19.40 let alone 19.19. Erryion knitghton might go under 19.30 and fahnbulleh might go under 19.50 in their lifes maybe 19.40 but mj blake and bolt on different levels.
@@goodebening6564 Exactly. Noah Lyles's 9.27 2nd 100m finishing speed in the 200m is equal to a 9.67 100m which isn't even as nearly as impressive as Bolt's 19.19 which is like 9.595 in the 100m. A lot of sprinter strengths are not as impressive as Bolt's overall records.
Also to be clear Joseph has made it know he will not compete for team USA but will represent the country of his parents Liberia in this upcoming Olympics
That is a incredible way to make his parents proud of him 🎉👊🏾🇱🇷👍🏾
If there was ever a 210m event Joe would be the goat that man alway coming
Actually, Joseph fahnbulleh upright sprinting mechnanics is already really good, he already lands close to his centre of gravity, he is efficient and his speed maintenance is really good. His projection out of the blocks might need some work but, all in all, he`s already really good. wish him all the best!
Finally ,a sensible comment on this promising sprinter. With improved training and coaching this young man will reign in athletics.
Very impressive Athlete, strong physique 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
We cannot wait to see you in an Olympics...congratulations Joseph
Big Fahn !!
I'm a Nigerian but would like to see laird and Joseph in the American trials. Both are good sprinters but fantastic different sprinting styles
Woah so his starts have been trash since nam?
Fahnbulleh will be running for Liberia at the olympics
@@bwillyoufunny really !?! That's interesting
He is the Flag bearer of Liberia 🇱🇷🇱🇷 in Tokyo already 🎉🎉🎉👊🏾
He is definitely going to the Olympics he went back to his home country of Liberia to represent them
This guys is beast.
I am already a huge fan of this guy. I hope he gets a clear run in his career and injuries etc stay away. I can't wait to see what he can do when he gets technically better.
such great top-end and sprint endurance... but his starts and acceleration phase are HORRENDOUS!!
Yeah he has definitely got the potential to be great.. I'm watching him
Can’t bet on him yet but will be watching him
If you're talking about Joseph you need to do one on Erriyon Knighton who just ran the 200 against and beat a field of PROS, led by Trayvon Bromell and he broke Bolt's age record.
I did a video on that race but I might have to do a similar video to this on Knighton.
I want to see that matchup in the olympics
I saw that JO was coming but he had ran out of time and space to catch Knighton.
Very informative N Educational Upliftment.
Thank you, happy to know you like it.
An absolute beast!
Watch his time too, same as bolt's record run but only that the 2 last digits are backwards
Interesting😄
He’s still picking up speed to the finish with his strength and stamina so I think if he can improve his starts and smooth his technique some degrees then he will dominate the sport.
I can't believe those guys could not hold him off to the end. He make it seem so effortless wow
His technique has room for a LOT of refinement. He doesn't have to become Carl Lewis as a technician, but if he irons out those flaws at all, and becomes just "okay", it's going to be crazy.
Have we seen him run an anchor leg in the 4x100m. That could be interesting
He's gotta be taller then 5'10... he's huge compared to the other guys... and Bolt isn't a 6 footer... he's 6'5.
You're right fanbulleh is 6'3 while bolt is 6'5
Yea fanbulleh is definitely taller than 5’10 , he’s at least 6’2 - 6’3
@@FM19964 As I posted earlier, both he and Bolt take about the same number of strides (80). So with that body, he is build to do great things in the near future.
He seems heavy but once he get's going pretty fast
I actually called this 1 ! Think this young man is the most talented sprinter out of all the sprinters out there! If he stays healthy this man will he nightmare to every sprinter !
Yea, I feel like he has the most potential out of every sprinter in the ncaa right now , he just gotta work on his start and he’ll be unstoppable no 🧢.
He caught Laird and Shawn at the right time. Sprinters with poor starts and his is beyond poor usually have short pro careers 400 could be his best event, I dislike watching this young man stuck in the blocks and having to chase down.
For such a large man...he can really run!
Team LIB🇱🇷❤️❤️❤️ 2020 Tokyo
I know all comparisons are meaningless, but Fahnbulleh reminds me of Bob Hayes. His finish is simply remarkable which makes him very dangerous in the 200. I wish him luck in his career.
Joseph is going to the olympics for Liberia
How tall is he they say 5’10” he towers over the other guys and his stride is longer than 6’5” bolt? Something seems off
According to articles they say 5'10 but he looks over 6 feet.
@@TrackandFieldNation 6 feet 2. With long legs
@@Akerlexic That sounds more like it. The side by side race against Laird he makes him look like a middle schooler. This should be interesting!
@@swav.zielin He looks decidedly taller than Matt Boling. How tall is Matt?
@@barrychambers4047 Matt boling is 6ft
Every body wants to be king
He looks so out of place when he’s out there running but he finds a way to win lol
Well damn, would you look at that!! He finally got a hype video!
Love watching him. But he needs to run at least one 19.6 or better before rationally thinking he may be unbeatable. Gotta remember everyone isn't going to run their best ever day. Bolt really only lost once because he was THAT much better than the rest. A bad day for him was still better than nearly everyone's great day
Fanbullah reminds me of Usain Bolt. Big guy, muscular running, natural talent, but kind of lurching. If he gets his technique smoother his times should be unreal.
0:32 when you want to go even faster and hit something
I totally agree that he could be a threat.
Yeah even without the best of starts.
@@TrackandFieldNation I'm a diehard Track&Field fan. I really appreciate the footage that you post. Keep up the good work!!
Thank you I am really happy to know you appreciate, thanks for the support.
Whoever own this channel is smart. I know he won mainly because of his topend form and race distribution
Nice to see lots of new guns in this sport 👍 , just hoping they'd stay healthy and clean and most importantly...humble 🙏. One has bloated ego already.
He moves like a locomotive.
Bruh. His starts make Carl Lewis and Donavon Bailey look like Christian Coleman
😆 spot on with that one.
Facts. That has to be the worst start of and sprinter
Not only the 200 but th e100
Dude is a scary run away freight train.
Ahhh Florida man...job well done✔!
This man desperately needs some much-improved coaching. Most people know by now that his start is horrible, he stands up immediately with no drive phase.
Maybe he can do a (non-drugged) Bien Johnson, with a quick upright start.
He has the best coaches in America at Florida for sprinters , jumps and hurdles. He just needs more time and training
@@heyjoejp Okay- But the first thing his existing coaches should be telling him is to NOT STAND UP AT THE BEGINNING OF A SPRINT.
@William McIntosh OK, fair enough. Hopefully he didn't peek.
If this kid can sort out his starts which are shockingly bad, he will be on or very close to WR times!
Joseph Fahnbulleh is really 6'2" tall has grown since high school
In a picture with a 6’5 high jumper, he looked 2 inches shorter than the high jumper. Theres no way this dude is 5’10. For context, mathew boling is listed at 6’0 and hes clearly taller than him in the pictures
If he improves his start then I believe he will definitely be unbeatable.
Errington Knighton has entered the chat
That’s remind me of Noah Lyles, he’s a 200m runner
This guy will replace Gatlin on the second leg of 4x100s going forward
That's only if he decides to compete for USA in years to come; he is representing his parents' country, Liberia at the Olympics. he has dual citizenship.
Yes he just needs to work on his start!
Why didn't he participate in the Olympic trials? I was looking for him. or to hear something about him.
No Trials cos he’ll be representing Liberia
are you sure because i didnt see him when i was looking at the liberian track and field atheletes
Just having a really long stride length doesn't mean it's always good-there is a tendency for young athletes to overstride. Joseph does this, flicking out his legs at the end of his cycle which is less efficient. His max efficient stride should be well short of Bolt who is much taller. Joseph's acceleration and explosiveness out of the blocks is so bad however, if it is not addressed, he will never reach his potential. Bolt, Blake, Johnson were all much faster, able to run around 10 flat for the first 100 with little wasted effort and still finish in 9.2-3. So they are way faster over both segments. Joseph's start and acceleration phase is so far behind it will end his chances if not corrected. Bolt was a ludicrous starter compared to anybody, impssible for his size - every split from 20m onwards was the fastest ever recorded in his WR. He ran the first 60m in 6.29s - the WR now is Coleman's 6.34, was slower at the time.
Please go to the Olympic Trails!!!
I think he will "BREAK" husain boat's record. His strides are longer and he hasn't become his full potential yet.
🤔 hmm so (top end speed + efficiency = game over ) x 200m
Can't wait until that freight trains looses some of that load and adds some Technics, He will definitely be breaking some track records!!!
Joseph Fahnbulleh came back from a bad start? Must be a day that ends in a Y.
Joe is 6'2 bro, not 5'10 where did you even get that information? big difference.
You mean the guy currently 1/2 second slower than Knighton?
I thought this kid was 6"3
He is 6’3, the guy just got a horrible source that said he was 5’10. It’s obvious he isn’t 5’10 just by looking @ him
lord have mercy 1:17 I’ve never run track but I think I can still beat him out of the blocks.
Unlikely. His start is very bad for an elite collegiate sprinter but still well above average. And even if you get him by the 10m mark, he'll get you by the 20m--he picks up momentum fast.
That’s the biggest 5’10 I’ve ever seen
I think he's 6'4" or 6'5". Over 6'2" for sure. Close to 200lbs, I heard 190 somewhere, but it's more than that. Whatever the number is, the race weight can be lighter 10-15 lbs.
I hate to say it people, but he's not entered in the trials.
He might be tired we don't know.
@@TrackandFieldNation no long story short, his coach never entered him even tho he ran 20.10 in April. Big oversight. He’s not going to be there sad.
He is representing Liberia. How do you guys not know this?
@@TrackandFieldNation he is representing Liberia. He's a born American but his parents are Liberian. How could @Track and Field Nation not know this?
@@trevorwoodley3897 news already came out he’s not, he never cleared/declared to run for them. His coach made a big mistake not entering him in the meet.
He has no drive phase out the blocks..he almost stands straight up...
Great potential, he needs to work on his Cheetah stance and remain disciplined. But also improve his attitude especially after winning a race, humility is key. There's always that somebody whose better than you. #This Tokyo Olympics, will be full of surprises and some records broken
seem him at NB Nat'l in 2019 no style points gotta be the shoe's
In the 100m its .2-.3 getting his start and acceleration fixed alone.
He is illusive to observe. The wonky start, the long stride doesn’t make it look like hes going that fast. I think other sprinters haven’t figured him out yet.
I thought it said in an interview that he's not taking part in the olympic trials.
He is representing the country of his parents in Tokyo, Japan.
Liberia 🇱🇷🇱🇷👍🏾👊🏾🎉
People need to calm the fook down. Seriously 'May become unbeatable in the 200m'. I heard the same shit about Matthew Boling and look at him now. Just chill until they actually do something...
Does Joseph Fahnbulleh play football for the Gators? He has a massively powerful lower body? How much does he way?
No he doesn’t but I’d love to see him play football , lowkey reminds me of DK metcalf
The one to watch is the one who is running 19.50 or better. These guys are running 19.9...and everyone is in an uproar. Media hype again...
If he raced Christian Coleman it would be so contrary
Lebrooon Jaaaames 🤣🤣
Bolt is taller and started better so his height isn't an issue. It can be corrected.
