I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl with Herbie Hancock and THEY. KILLED. IT. I mean DANG, they blew the roof off the place. Their drummer must be part octopus because he maintained about eighteen rhythms all at once and made. it. work.
GOATs are all of these artists. Without each of them, music would not be what it is today, crossing genres, styles, stories, vibes. Mad psyched for this album. Gratitude to all of them. Salutes, Robert Glasper.
This track is a serious breath of fresh air! Love, love, loved it! I listen to all these artist that will be apart of this album. From the sounds of this track, I'm not sure what to call this genre. If I had to pick, I'd say Urban Jazz Fusion. I really really enjoyed each section of the song. I absolutely cannot wait for this album to drop next month. With Robert Glasper leading the pack of this project, you simply can't go wrong.
Or its just jazz. one thing i've learned being around these guys is that there is not a specific "sound" to jazz... it's the pushing the envelope and bending the rules and pushing the sound forward that makes it jazz. the reminding us that there are no rules or confines. these guys do whatever they want to do, in the same vein of their predecessors.
These handsome brothers right here...whew!!! Big ups to Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah and the rest of the R+R=Now crew..... This whole album Collagically Speaking is dope.....but "Change of Tone" stays on repeat.. "No time to waste time..life short..don't trip on the past...its gone..."....different tone!!
Collagically Speaking is the debut album of dream team band R+R=NOW, featuring Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Derrick Hodge, Taylor McFerrin, and Justin Tyson. The band is inspired by Nina Simone’s famous statement that an artist’s duty is to reflect the times, and in that spirit, it presents single-take songs written live in the room that go wherever the crew’s mood goes. The album explores such themes as quiet power, the women’s movement, systemic bigotry and universal love.
I recall either reading or hearing Glasper announce that an album was coming in like June. Plus he's posted clips of them in the studio. If I find a source on that I'll put it here.
From www.bluenote.com/news/rrnow-new-single-change-of-tone: "Dream team band R+R=NOW has released 'Change Of Tone,' the enticing lead track from their forthcoming debut album Collagically Speaking, which will be released June 15."
@@omx9211 Okay. Just not into it, esp. with such talented vocalists. JMO. The jazz tracks on this are *so* amazing. Resting Warrior, By Design, The Night In Question... huuuuge. I want a full instrumental jazz album!
It's Terrace Martin on the vocoder...to each their own, but it's definitely not autotuned, it takes quite a bit of skill to pull off. Casey Benjamin plays the same role in the Robert Glasper Experiment. Terrace also used the vocoder quite a lot on GKMC, and it's prevalent on California Love. It's a pretty iconic sound in hip-hop, which is exactly what the vocoder hints at in this track, Awake to You, etc.
Should be re-titled: "The Emperor's New Clothes"...i.e. A disappointment - One hopes the rest of the LP is better than this. And can we actually have some CSaTA?
Real grown folk music. Need it everyday.
4 am quarantine mood
In an office full of garbage music, this, my solace, stays on repeat at work.

Here because of Bill Burr. He was at that concert and talked about them on his podcast from Thurs.

This is so good but I feel like it’d be so much better without vocals
especially autotuned vocals. and with such good voices... why?
@@theRevLazarusDubois it's not autotuned it's tweaked through synth or something like that

Can you possibly put away your auto-tune so I kin hear you?
What auto-tune???
Your clearly hard of hearing because theres no auto tune in this whole song
Auto-tune. LOL
