Ring watches aren't a new trend, it's just an old trend that's coming back. There are lots of vintage ones available second hand that even have hand wound mechanical movements. Even Seiko and Rolex made them at one point!

    Two more things:
Jody spends 6 minutes talking about why we shouldn't talk about these 🤣
Secondly, ring watches have been around for decades. I personally own one that I got in an eBay lot that was made in the 1950s. They are nothing new, and they seem to cyclically show up for a few years and then go away because they might be cool but they aren't practical.
I say if you like them go for it and just enjoy yourself cuz that's the advice Jody usually gives.

Let’s imagine it’s 1910, and we’re gathered in the town square of Elgin Illinois, where the President of Elgin is standing on a soapbox, making a speech.
“My good people, I am here to alert you to a disturbing new trend! Pocket watches that some otherwise reputable firms are making to fit on the wrist! Come now, gentle people. Aren’t they called pocket watches for a reason?! Please, help me stop this disturbing, useless, and annoying new trend right now!”
How is a wristwatch any more “necessary” than a finger watch? And if you like iconic watches, why is it bad to own one made in miniature … like scale models of cars and planes?
As far as price goes … I can’t see how it’s any dumber to buy a finger watch for $150 than it is to buy a $1,000 Oris or whatever - when you can buy a perfectly serviceable Casio for $20.
Someone is getting old. And thank god that for once it’s not me!
As always, thanks for the entertaining video. And thanks for alerting me to this dangerous new trend. I might just get one when the price drops.

These watch rings are fine, because they have existed as jewelry-type-...thing for a very long time. Seiko actually has ring watches, with fully functional super tiny mechanical manual winding movement, the same with Rolex and other hyper high end Swiss brands too. They have been and are fashion items for those who can afford the price tags. They have been luxury fashion items, so it makes sense it is now a novelty fashion item.
It's fine to have digital watch rings, they look cool to some people, and I like it too. If I had the money, I would pick up a Seiko watch ring for men (haven't checked deep enough on Seiko's old catalogues), because it's a novel experience, and it is an engineering marvel to wear a mechanical piece on the finger :)

Just marvel at how far Casio has taken the whole watch thing - at one end of the catalogue you've got an exquisitely built titanium MR-G with a hand finished bezel by a master swordsmith costing £6,700, and at the other end you've got the Everyman disposable F-91W for £20.
Because they sell millions of F-91Ws and maybe a few hundred swordsmith MR-Gs means that in terms of relative sales volume, this ring thing isn't actually in the cheap crap end of the catalogue... in Casio terms it's a premium product😂

I'm interested in an alternative: smart rings.
My smartwatch is very useful... except it makes wearing normal watches tricky. You lose functionality if you enjoy your collection... or wear two watches and look like a berk. A smart ring linked to my phone allows me to monitor my health/sleep/exercise, be alerted to notifications, and still enjoy a mechanical piece.
These though? I'm not a fan. Too small to be visible, too big to be comfortably slim on the finger

Besides the price, it's just a fun way of doing something different. Plus this might lead to thinner movements and thinner watches that don't cost as much as a house. Or at least a large diesel truck. Remember, wrist watches were a silly waste of time too at one point. I mean what's wrong with the one in your pocket. Where it's suppose to go! -some guy from the early last century probably.

I feel like whenever I'd wear that, my finger will grow its own fingers. Watchception. Why, and what the f---.

I think they're fun. Wrist watches watches are more utilitarian, obviously. Life doesn't have to be so "in the box", though

Hey Jody, I agree. Casio went the wrong way - instead of increasing sizes (which is urgently necessary imho) they've done the opposite. And this price is ridiculous! I have become a big fan of Skmei (yes, Skmei) because they have become the more creative, more value-for-money and better Casio. Stay ooen-minded and watch them grow 😉 Cheers!

This must be the first time in the history of humanity someone asked Casio to make bigger watches.

    How silly.
    When I saw the thumbnail, I didn’t realise it wasn’t much bigger than…well…a thumbnail…😂

The toys I get, but the "functional" ones...I'm with you there Jody.

I got one of these from my Brother as a lark last B-Day. It actallly was decently made. I don't actually wear it, but you know - it was good for a laugh. Looks like these however have a BIG HISTORY going way back as lady watches.

Jody fun rant today! 🎉 What do you think about functioning watch cufflinks for those dressier occasions? They are a thing too.

Ring Watches were big in the 50's (or something). I bought an old oris ring watch awhile back. Mechanical movement.

Jody... My gf keeps asking for an Aventurine Ascent in lady size (25mm to 30mm with 16mm glidelock bracelet). She and I would actually both prefer quartz. I'm sure a VH31 would fit nicely in that case... Hook a brutha (and sista for that matter) up. Please. Thanks! 👍🏼

I remember being able to find functional ones all over the place back in the mid to late 90s. They were in those 50¢ or $1 toy vending machines and as a prize you could spend your tickets on in arcades.
