You were too lenient, actually. Here are the discrepancies you let us get away with: "I'm not feel" | "during weekend" | "most favourite" | "will going to" | "so I eat" (for an exception we say "so I'm eating") Well, I saved you 2000 ฿ dude. Since each participant made at least one mistake. Hope everyone has learned something. And keep having FUN! (comment below for questions).
As a foreigner living here in Bangkok, I see a lot of Thai people speak very well in English but they afraid to talk. Nowadays learning English is more easier than ever.
Several of us just lack self-confidence, if they throw away those mentality then it is easy! I used to be like this when I was around 18-19. Tho I have background in Christ school, and study in international university (well teacher speak in English) It like many of us just didn't have a change to use English that why they have little confidence.
Be confident in yourself. Don't be afraid to speak English.Don't worry about what other people think. The more you practice, the more better you get🇪🇸🇹🇭
When you ask some information to Thai people, even if they're not able to speak English they struggle to help you anyway. This is make them such kind people! That's why I love Thailand 🇹🇭 ❤ 😍
Thanks for encouraging Thai people to speak English. Even they didn’t do perfectly but you generous enough to give the money to them. Besides giving money I believe you also gave them the confidence and good feeling towards English language.
As an American this is incredible to watch . You chose five random people and four were able to complete the challenge . Absolutely stunning , very proud and humbled by the intelligence displayed by the people of Thailand .
Paddy is definitely generous. He told them that the grammar has to be correct, but he literally let it all slide. With just a bit of imperfection, the new gens in the capital city can definitely speak more English. No doubt about it. Comparing this to just 20-30 years ago, Back then, it was surly hard to find anyone on the street who could speak English as good as these kids. My country has gone more and more international❤
English has a fun trick. If you can get some keywords of the sentence, you can patch together the rest of the phrase. Love the enthusiasm of your contestants.
I'm an ESL teacher living near Bangkok. Watching the people concentrate and try so hard with translation activated my Teacher Energy SO MUCH. I was saying "Yes good job, thats it!" to the video.
I think it is becuse of the English languge is the National Languge which be used the most. So, in Thai, English languge has been indicated in standard lesson that almost kid need to be tought. However, Thai languge is not famouse in another country, more letter, more intentional ton. It will be so hard for foreigners to learn and take so much to learn.
This is so good. I remember, i suggested this in my comment on your previous English to Thai challenge. It is nice to know that many Thai speak English confidently already. ☺️
I spent 12 days in Thailand. While I learnt basic Thai to get by, I found English proficiency varied ALOT. Depending on their level of education and occupation. Most of the Grab/Bolt drivers spoke very little or no English. Most Airport and hospitality staff had decent english. Average Joes on the street could only speak a little bit but there was always a fluent person around to help with English when people didn't understand me. But overall, you can easily get by with just English in Thailand. It's pretty English friendly.
I enjoyed this video. I was amazed that Thai people spoke English very well . Their English level is much higher than I thought , If you had done this in Japan , You would not have lost any money .
Wow Paddy! Your Thai has improved quite significantly there, I presume from being in a totally immersive Thai environment... and these guys are good in their command of the English language also, especially the girl in white. I am really impressed with the young gen. Good for Thailand and its future!
As someone who’s Thai and can speak English quite well, foreigners don’t rlly talk to me cause I’m just a kid. Like they thought teens in Thailand can’t speak English well, but some of us can actually speak better than adults.
Makes sense. Kids are exposed to social media way more than adults these days.. In that sense, it can be a good thing to learn the English language. Keep on learning ! :-)
I really like these videos. As a westerner learning Thai I find it easier to understand you speaking Thai, than a Thai person. Also having the English translation is perfect.
Because he's using the common Bangkok dialect which is used for learning Thai. In the North, North East, South, the dialects are different and that's where it gets tricky
This is quite an eye opening experience, in the past I think many Thai people didn't have the confidence to speak English but seeing this shows that there is a great improvement, especially in the mindset and the vocabulary, most of the time Thai people are really good at writing English but it seems they are more confident in speaking English, even though this is probably mostly true for Thais in larger cities like Bangkok it's still very promising, thanks for this video Paddy! PS in Thai too but grew up abroad 😉
Nice to see that alot of thai people have been learning english at a high level. Though it makes me wonder wether this is just locally, around universities and so. You think you might head out to more rural area's anytime?
Paddy, says a lot about the quality of your videos that I didn't just skip through the ad break on instinct 😅 I think it's great how you set the whole thing up by telling the participants that you'd be a real stickler for sentence structure and grammar, but ultimately it was an exercise in building some confidence in your ability to communicate effectively in a second language. Looks like you did a great job encouraging everyone, and they all seemed proud of themselves for having passed. Keep up the great work!!
Thailand 🇹🇭 never been conquered by any western country, so we have no need to use English with in Thailand. And we are proud of our Thai language. But our new generation is very eager to learn English.
It appears the younger generation (whom you interviewed) will have a better level of English than older folks. It's good that people like Chompoo are learning English from non-International high schools too.
I've been watching some other UA-camrs taking a break from Paddy for about a week.... when I come back to Paddy I realize just how much better his content is. No shade on other language teaching YTers, just wanted to say your content is awesome!!!!
Most thai people are struggle to speak English, but when they are trying to speak English, that was so awesome, goodjob guys from your brother in Indonesia
You're in the capital, of course, there will be enough people to speak English. But if you go to the provinces, the will be very few people who speak or communicate in English.
These people understand English very well. I guess they really benefited from the many foreigner visited Thailand. Opening their country to the world really benefited their people. Kudos also to the Thai government.
As Thai people, I think that English is not difficult to learn. If you really study it, it would be easy to speak, read or write. But from direct experience as a child before As a child, I thought that English was too difficult, difficult to speak, and had a lot of accents. Some words sound the same but are written differently. And probably because it is not as funny as other subjects such as computers or physical education. Therefore, many Thai children are not interested in English. But when I grow up, I start to see the importance of foreign languages because they are used in studying, working or communicating. Personally, I'm not very good at English right now. Most of what I've learned from at work or a little everyday vocabulary Therefore, I have to use a translation app quite often.
The old-way Thai educational system focuses more on grammar than the ability to create conversations. Thai starts learning from grammar, not really encouraged to speak. Therefore, they're worried that they will speak incorrectly (wrong grammar, I meant).
The younger generation is definitely better at speaking English, this is nice. They just have to be more confident and don't worry too much about grammar or accent. The most important thing is to be able to communicate. Well done.
Another fun vlog Khun Paddy this time you were at Siam Square ! Last time in reverse you were at Chatswood Chase !!! I’m sure you knew the outcome well krup Khun Paddy 😊
I absolutely love your videos. Keep it up. I am not surprise with the results though. You were in the city center near one of the best university in Thailand doing the quiz. Go to upcountry next time man. It will be more fun.
Thanks for encourage Thai peoples to speak English, it’s not perfect but good to heard Thai nowadays dares to speaks and improves💪👍🇹🇭✌🏻🙏👏 we are proud to be Thais💕🇹🇭 best country in the world 🇹🇭😘👍 thanks again for your Chanel 🎉👏💐🙏
It would have been funny if you failed everyone on sentence number 4. You technically said grammar must be perfect and they all got the grammar wrong on that sentence. Everyone said "me and my wife" which is not proper grammar, you have to say "my wife and I" or it is incorrect. I accidently say words in the wrong order all the time when I speak Thai and my Thai friends are always very quick to correct me. I feel like this is a really common issue when leaning Thai/English.
Im gonna visit Thailand next year and my biggest concern is if I could have a fluent conversation in english with them to the point to be able to create friendship.
Paddy can you make another video on how you would learn thai if you could go back in time or suggestions for some that can not fully immerse such as yourself. Thank you 🙏
Over the last 5 years only, English has improved so much in Bkk. Amazing. Imagine in another 5yrs. Paddy, please try this in a rural area outside of Bkk. Great experiment & fun 😀
Haha. In most rural areas, the teachers do not even speak English. It goes as far as ABC, One Two Three... And back to buddha learnings or about King Rama.. It's a sad thing but the educational system sucks balls in Thailand. You can get top education in very expensive Universities, but again, a degree can be bought :-/
If westerners can speak Thai, they are kinda very proud . Never seen a video of a Thai who can speak English, going to the states and testing the Thai speaking abilities of locals there🙃
I have Spanish friend who lives in the Thailand. I like that country, because it's very interesting. I LOVE ASKING HER ABOUT THAILAND AND HER LIFE. BTW: I am Polish.
Was this quiz too easy???
Or could you benefit from a 2 week free trial with Voiceping: bit.ly/3IlLT4Z
Thanks for watching!
kid....ive lived here 10 years retired.....my thai wife laughs and laughs at this....falang with thai wife HAVE TO WATCH your channel
No. I thought that was appropriate
It was a good level, however, all these people were young in the video. Young people in Thailand can speak better English than older people.
I take that back; I imagine each deserved 400 ฿ ;-)
As a foreigner living here in Bangkok, I see a lot of Thai people speak very well in English but they afraid to talk. Nowadays learning English is more easier than ever.
Maybe in bangkok but even there the English is not perfect. You can tell they prefer to speak thai.
Several of us just lack self-confidence, if they throw away those mentality then it is easy! I used to be like this when I was around 18-19.
Tho I have background in Christ school, and study in international university (well teacher speak in English)
It like many of us just didn't have a change to use English that why they have little confidence.
That's why many foreigners are not motivated to learn Thai because many people speak English
I agree. And I noticed that 90% of foreigners can’t speak any Thai even though they’ve lived here for many years. Very sad
@@iPaulLee whereas in Japan and China more portion of foreigners are able to speak Japanese and Chinese up to very basic level
Be confident in yourself.
Don't be afraid to speak English.Don't worry about what other people think.
The more you practice, the more better you get🇪🇸🇹🇭
But Asians unnecessary to understand English at all.
why he wouldn't say the same about thai
this was so amazing to watch, my cheeks hurt from smiling so much and i was SOOOO engaged! So glad they all got their rewards that was awesome!
Mine as well, fun and cheeky
When you ask some information to Thai people, even if they're not able to speak English they struggle to help you anyway. This is make them such kind people! That's why I love Thailand 🇹🇭 ❤ 😍
😍💙
Thanks for encouraging Thai people to speak English. Even they didn’t do perfectly but you generous enough to give the money to them.

As an American this is incredible to watch . You chose five random people and four were able to complete the challenge . Absolutely stunning , very proud and humbled by the intelligence displayed by the people of Thailand .
Speaking another language has nothing to do with intelligence though.
they're not ebough smart to learn english for tourists?
Great to see how Paddy encouraged them by giving them another chance to speak and not judging them by their accent
Paddy is definitely generous. He told them that the grammar has to be correct, but he literally let it all slide. With just a bit of imperfection, the new gens in the capital city can definitely speak more English. No doubt about it. English has a fun trick. If you can get some keywords of the sentence, you can patch together the rest of the phrase. Love the enthusiasm of your contestants.
We definitely need a part 2 with harder vocab! The Thai talent at English is superb!
You give them the courage to speak with confidence. Even if it's not 100 % accurate. But it will allow it to be developed further.
I'm an ESL teacher living near Bangkok. Watching the people concentrate and try so hard with translation activated my Teacher Energy SO MUCH. I was saying "Yes good job, thats it!" to the video.
น้องๆๆเก่งกันมากเลยค่ะ ความพยายามในการแปลภาษาเกิน 100 เลยค่ะ ดูแล้วน่ารักและยิ้มไปด้วยค่ะ
You guys are so awesome ka.
This was really entertaining to see how Thai people are able to speak English while foreigners who live there can't speak Thai. Thanks for sharing

น้องมิงค์น่ารักดี I love the mannerism of the girl named Mink. Her English pronunciation is on point.
Nice to see that alot of thai people have been learning english at a high level. Though it makes me wonder wether this is just locally, around universities and so. You think you might head out to more rural area's anytime?
Definitely in the city there is a much higher level of English!
English is a main subject in schools.
This video was a lot of fun, I wish I could speak as much Thai as they could English, they were very impressive.
Brilliant video Paddy. You smashed it again. Nice one.

Wow i like Mint’s accent, she so good
This is a great idea to have practice and learn from mistakes if you happen to make so.
Paddyยังอยู่กรุงเทพไหมครับ ถ้าว่างๆผมอยากจะมีโอกาสเจอกันและคุยกันต่อเรื่องเรียนภาษาไทยนะครับ

The woman in the thumbnail, her english accent is fantastic.
There were a lot of grammar mistakes but I understood everything. Paddy said the grammar had to be correct but let all the mistakes slide.
Indeed. I love how he decided to go with the flow. Cute

Well done Paddy - awesome video. Great concept and well executed sir 👍🏻👍🏻
If westerners can speak Thai, they are kinda very proud . Never seen a video of a Thai who can speak English, going to the states and testing the Thai speaking abilities of locals there🙃
As a 14 yos thai. Learning is not hard to learn because we can sound every words in English but what difficult is accent amd grammars.
Woooww this is actually amazing to see! Living here in Bangkok is amazingg
That quite easy for young people in Bangkok, but the result could be difference when ask old man or at countryside.
Please do more clips about Thai people speaking English.
nice vid, it was nice to see people win. :)
ตื่นเต้นแทนทุกคนเลยค่ะ ทุกคนเก่งมากๆ❤️❤️
I have Spanish friend who lives in the Thailand. I like that country, because it's very interesting. I LOVE ASKING HER ABOUT THAILAND AND HER LIFE.
