Im with Roy Baggio is underrated. His dribbling ability, goals and assists while plaimg against the toughest defences in history was immense Obviously both are extremely highly rated, but i think Baggio and Romario should be remembered more fondly.

What about an independent time keeper? Like in ice hockey. Start the clock at 90, and every time the ball is in play, the clock ticks down. Any stoppage, the clock stops. Once the 90 is done, it's done. Ref doesn't need to look at the clock/his watch, just ref the game. Everyone knows how long is left etc. etc. Would stop the ridiculous additional time adding up. Stops teams faking injuries and using subs to eat time as the clock doesn't move if the game is dead.
I agree. When play stops, clock stops. Actually play a full 90. Other sports do it, so I don't understand the hesitance and skepticism around this for football.
Plus it would wipe out timewasting completely. You'd probably actually only need 30 minutes each half cos that's all the ball is in play for during 90 minutes anyway.
@@somehorseAgreed. Thought this for years. Rugby League have had a countdown clock going back to when Eddie Waring was commentating. I agree also that Football players play too many games I that the authorities make them play too many games for TV & money. That's why the Prem League hasn't been reduced to 18 teams. Tennis players don't whinge after playing 5 sets over 5 hours as opposed to the other sex playing just 3 sets.

Great striker, Italia 90 was his tournament. Any ball he touched went in. That team is regarded as one of the best italy teams ever. Eire was brilliant, too.

Completely agree with the 3 challenges. If you get one right you keep it. Forget VAR, and just have 3 challenges, I’ve been saying this since the introduction of VAR. it would also give the game another dimension of excitement too.
Best rule change would be to manage time like in Rugby. Clock stops for subs, injuries etc and maybe from the time the ball goes out until it is kicked or thrown back in to stop players time wasting. Then at 90 mins hooter sounds and game finishes when the ball next goes out of play or a goal is scored. Simple.

Would be good if there were some radical changes in the sport but the fans would kill the policy off before it gets through. F1 has DRS, Cricket has powerplay etc. They should have a 5 minute period (or more, depending on how it goes) where there's no offsides, would cause absolute scenes
make offside like ice hockey with a line on the pitch and not dependent on a player that is moving. offside was there to stop poaching and just booting the ball up to a player. this would still achieve that
Hearing the discussion about VAR, between these ex players, reminded me of the days, when football pundits were calling for technology, to help with offside decisions. The argument for the technology was, it doesn't matter how close it is, if you're offside, you're offside". Now football has the technology in place and if you're offside, you're offside is the standard, its still not good enough! Just goes to prove, people are never satisfied!
I think I agree with penalties for an extra point, so a team can get 1,2 or 3 points. Although I’m not sure if it’d make the game more exciting or boring. If teams know there’s a chance to get 2 points for a draw then they’d be happier to take it and therefore less likely to go for the win because they’d only lose 1 point if they win the shootout. Unless losing the penalty shootout means 0 points then it’d make things more exciting. So maybe no 1points anymore. 3 for a win, 2 for a draw but win on penalties. Doubt they’d do that but it’d add an extra dynamic and excitement.
Make the goals larger to get higher scoring games. A goal would be 6 points. Then a penalty kick for an extra point. That would make the games more exciting with more goals.
With rolling substitutes, if the AFL in Australia can do it with 36 players on a cricket pitch with 3 extra officials, Football can definitely be able to do it to.
Surely only defenders, Gary, like the offside set up as it is now. It does my nut in seeing a goal chalked off for someone being a millimeter offside. As Wrighty and Carragher said - there was a time when you could be level - the good old days
Toldo is an underrated Italian from that era. At the time, he was recognised as one of the best around, but now you rarely see a mention for him. Very unlucky to have had his career line up with Buffon's. Vieiri is another one. From 1997-2003, he scored 147 goals in 200 games for club and country. He did this despite the fact that he was constantly playing through and coming back from various injuries.
League penalties would change the entire game strategy. Strong teams will attack more, weak teams will be more defensive. This will lead to many surprise wins, could boost the entire league economy.
what about if you curl a ball down the sideline or behind the goal at a corner and the ball comes back into play then its not out? it would add another dimension to it and think how goalies and defenders would have adapt to handle curlers coming in from behind them. lead to more goals which is a good thing.
