This is absolutely beautiful...brings tears to my eyes the honesty...the joy of playing music together...the emotions it can bring... tears roll down my eyes....tears of joy and grief...but most of all thankful that people dare to express themselves in music like this!
I had this version on a bootleg Waterboys cassette that I bought in Camden market in the early 90s - great to hear again, it is so beautiful and uplifting.
Only Sharon Shannon could extract feeling from the instruments she chooses to play. She adds that special something to everybody lucky enough to play with her.
Fantastic. I remember watching a VHS of this show back in the early 1990s (probably '92 as you say) and was blown away by this version, so thank you for saving it for the world to enjoy. What a combination of two stellar musicians and personalities. Mike Scott is a lyrical genius....and God, I just love everything about Sharon Shannon :)
Mike has a very soothing voice...and altho this cover is so different then the original..the voice Mike has..makes this version a REAL feel to it...of meaning.
YCoriginals sent me! NOW this is cool. I like how they rock out!! Thanks for posting. Mike Scott & Sharon Shannon are new to me. I have to check more of these too OUT! Cheers, Meg
Beautiful! they made a great couple. I wonder why they didn't end up together as there always seemed to be a chemistry between them? Thanks for posting, Mark.
One of the reasons would be because he wrote the excellent 'Galway Girl' and recorded it with Sharon Shannon, twas on Sharon's Album of Duets with Jackson Browne etc
Indeed, the songwriter of this Rod Stewart song has been steeling textual bits and pieces of the original. Musically can it certainly not compete with Bob's Original.
CLIVECHIP sounds as though he himself is the one he is complaining of...the usa is the land of yanks, that's not an insult to us, ever hear of the yankee clipper
I never want the camera to miss a second of Sharon Shannon's angelic smiling face

great perfomance...sometimes (often!) it doesn't take more then a few real musicians to create a chilling performance.

It seems like bits and pieces of this song is in the rod Stewart forever young but the melody is different?

Oops that should have been "nowadays" - almost as bad as the Yank! And my previous comment was a reply to clancii, in case anyone is wondering.
Bob Dylan wrote this
THANK YOU . I and the rest of the world .
I love this song and admire Mike Scott but was so disappointed hearing this version - for me, its too jaunty
CLIVECHIP sounds as though he himself is the one he is complaining of...the usa is the land of yanks, that's not an insult to us, ever hear of the yankee clipper
Oop. I think Dylans performance is so much better. Mike sholdn `t mess with this beautiful song.
😎😎😎
Mike's earned the right to do any song he wants to and he did it justice I'd say.
Bet u Dylan would love this
