This song is spetacular. The way the melodies flow and the way Khan decipts different emotions is simply out of this world.

I disliked Poetry for the Poisoned when I first heard it. Then I put it in my car and listened to it over a few times. Now it's one of my favourite albums. Even the name is brilliant

Me too! I think a lot of people didn't give it the time it needed to absorb it.

@@kmacgregor6361The second half is better than the first half though. Though that said this album at the time had the first Kamelot song I didn't actually like. House on a Hill

@@thrillathakilla It's funny because a lot of people said that was the only song they liked on the album, that or Hunter's Season. I do like the song but that, Hunter's Season and My train of Thoughts are probably my least favourite on the album. I love all the beginning and end stuff.

Its a vampire & the "victim"

    • @kmacgregor6361

@@jenniferj5324 Technically an incubus and the victim... the victim maybe being a willing victim here ("show me all the splendors of the night"). I think it could be a metaphorical incubus - someone beautiful and respected on the outside, once innocent, but now corrupt. Could be how Khan felt being a 'rockstar' yet feeling at this point in time like he wasn't living a good life and being on the verge of a breakdown. Movement 1 talks about once being young and innocent with big ambitions, but then eventually is "disgraced" watching himself. Movement 2 is more about the 'victim', her role in the seduction and almost a tender relationship between them - maybe metaphorically about giving in to temptation. If you accept Simone's role here as being about temptation, then Movement 3 is maybe using it as a crutch and ultimately losing everything. Then movement 4 is reviewing his life and a loving, peaceful childhood before it all went wrong, followed by everything dissolving into chaos.
Stands nicely as a literal story here though if you think of it as an person being corrupted and becoming an incubus, then having a relationship with a human woman, corrupting her in the process to be like him, and ultimately regretting his fall and corruption.

@@kmacgregor6361 Ah ok thanks for the detailed explanation. Is this your interpretation or did Khan allude to this? It always made me think of a vampire seduction, perhaps because I find the romanticized Ann Rice vampire mythology fascinating.
